i once heard a guy on youtube say “people look at instagram and tiktok and think it’s real life.” people think car manufacturers want you to destroy these cars because they made them to be disposable, and if you wreck you can just get a new one instantly. lots of social media removes the actual reality of doing things to a car like maintenance and legitimate modification, and people end up thinking, if your engine blows you can just rebuild or swap it overnight. what’s worse is a lot of these people who look at that stuff don’t have money and cut corners on safety and functionality for their daily driven only car given to them by their parents.
I'm 60yo. When I was young, almost every male I'd met had some interest in cars. Usually cosmetic. By the time I turned 50, looked around, and there was no one left. The ricers will disappear, as their automotive interest is superficial, and will be replaced with another clout-chasing venture. Would love to meet other car people, tried going to meets, and it's as you describe. Not for me. FWIW, I have an Evolution IX, original owner.
As a young guy just getting into the car scene with barely enough money for gas, it frustrates me that people destroy their rides and treat it as if it’s nothing, I mean isn’t your heart and soul put into that thing?
