The last sound was actually the fuel pump cycling 3 times to confirm a successful calibration. Without that confirmation the new calibration values will not be stored in the ECU.
Thank you again for the video and for letting us know that. This kind of service procedure is not available anywhere in the manuals and it's very useful. Great job!
Have done anything to the engine (electronics or similar). My 2024 300 xc-w seem to run leaner, less smooth than what your engine sounds like on video. Thx 🙏
Can the electronic power valve be adjusted in a way that controls the hit as the spring set up did? Like a green spring being mild and linear/Yellow being more aggressive than green and Red being Wild and hard hitting.
The electronic power valve is controlled by the ECU. Stock the bike has no direct user control to tune the power valve, although the two stock maps (green and white) may well change how it responds. I'm sure there will be aftermarket tuning solutions which do allow user control...
Thanks, didn’t know about this. Do you think I can assume that the calibration has been done by the dealer before delivering the new bike? Or should I do it?
I wonder if you held the throttle more or less than half way open if this would impact the pv position for different throttle positions so you could manipulate where it hits in the open position? Or is the throttle at half open simply the signal to the ecu to do the calibration?
I just came here to ask you this. So you are certain the throttle position isnt ABSOLUTELY critical and more of a “signal”. So basically if we “hear” the reset happen we are good to go? Awesome! Out of curiousity how did you find this info? Ive been searching
@@shaneburesh9173 - Yes, that’s right. The exact position is not important, it’s just used as a trigger to start the calibration. I get my information from the service manual, but also have A few KTM technical contacts.
Did you find fuel economy extremely bad during the first few engine hours? Maybe the power valve calibration would help? I burnt 50% more than a 2023 XC 300 on the same ride for reference (same weight, same trail, same speed).
I found fuel economy very poor with the stock map. My bike was running excessively rich. When I switch to the TSP map (I purchased the TSP ERM Power kit with medium comp head) both the fuel economy and performance improved significantly.
My recommendation is to do the calibration when you first get the bike and then each time after you change the top end/clean the PV. Other than that it shouldn’t really need it, although there’s no harm in calibrating it whenever you like.
Great video. I have a 2024 gas gas 300 EC and it has a super low idle. Would this power valve calibration affect that? Ive turned in the red idle nob all the way and it only bumped the idle up a little. Struggling to find out why I cant raise the idle any higher.
That seems strange. The red idle adjuster on my 2024 works fine. The power valve calibration will not change the idle adjustment. My recommendation is to take your bike to your KTM dealer, have them use the KTM diagnostic tool and see if something wrong.
The KTM repair manual details the procedure on page 259. It calls it "Programming the end positions of the exhaust control". It does not mention repeating the calibration for a different map. As such I do not think it's necessary to repeat the calibration and think that probably the same end position data is used for both maps.
Just got my 2024 300 tbi and i got the check engine light on but it stops once the bike runs idle ( it goes on only when i accelerate the bike ) . The issue is that when i am riding it it cuts my gas and it loses power.
In the owner's manual (page 146~ in mine) there's a blink code section which details each one. Count how many long and short flashes occur and look the error up. It will give you a good idea regarding where to start looking for the problem.
Yes, with the bike not running turn the throttle full open, plug in the wake-up dongle, wait 5 seconds, release the throttle and the oil pump priming sequence will start. Disconnect the dongle when the sequence has finished.
When is it necessary to prime the oil pump? And is any damage possible if the procedure is run when unnecessary? Apologies for the naive questions, just bought one of these after years of 4T, no idea yet where to put my hands…
so you actually adjusted your power valve settings manually for each ride? or you liked the idea that you could? I'm guessing the latter but either way its easier with the new setup.
Good stuff! Did you test ride the bike before and after this procedure? Curious if the bike worked better at higher RPM after the calibration procedure. I was able to connect a map switch to my bike, it seems to have been in the green map from the showroom.
Yes, I rode before and after. Before was the first ride and the bike wouldn't rev out and felt very flat on top. After was the second ride and mid/top felt much better. However, I'm not sure how much was due to the power valve calibration and how much was due to the engine breaking in. Yes, I also confirmed that my bike stock is in the green (higher power/high traction) map.
