I love that you make plenty of videos on these smaller calibers. alot of us are using. The other channels want to only focus on the much more powerful calibers
Thanks. I used to joke that way about TNoutdoors9. He had health issues and didn't do content for awhile. I told people that the FBI recruited him, he's off testing ammo for them.
Being the ammo geek that I am, I'm happy that RevSam ran this test.! I must assert my interest in these ammo tests....bc I carry a 22 auto as my daily ccw. Great test Sam.!
The .22 mag. is impressive for its size. I know what it can do in a rifle but it is definitely superior to the .22 LR in a handgun. Thanks for another excellent video.
Just wish Ruger or Smith would extend the barrels on their J-frame or LCR without all the extra size and bulk. S&W would just give us a 3" 351C or 351PD, that would be ideal. It would be full length ejector rod and 7-shot. I'm not a fan of their alloy cylinder, but it is lightweight.
I mean, if you are asking me specifically, I would say get both. But I know what you mean for people that can only have one gun. You aren't entirely wrong, the centerfire LCR's have better triggers due to reduce spring weight and a wadcutter is near as low recoil as a .22 WMR. Ultimately I think "because you can" is the right answer. Now one legit reason might be cylinder size. I never measured a .38 Special LCR but I did measure the .22 WMR LCRx and it's width if I recall was like 1.280" which is thinner than most pistols that have ambidextrous safeties.
Unless I’m completely misunderstanding the question-or, it’s phrased wrong, and Jack was referring to the .380 LCP auto loader (shout out Paul Harrell)-the Ruger LCRx in .22mag holds 6; while the LCRx in .38spl is a five shot. ***btw, Sam, I’m a huge fan of your content & firearms knowledge. I hope RU-vid figures their shit out for you.
If you can find it, you might try Aguila Interceptor. I found it to be much better than Winchester and at least as good as CCI Velocitor. The Aguila ammo seems to hit just a little bit harder than CCI, but I don't have a chrono to measure it.
@@markthe2nd741 I ordered a bunch of ammo a week ago, supposed to arrive soon but I don't have a plan on when I will test it. Possibly soon. My receipt says this: Aguila 380 Auto Ammunition 1E802110 95 Grain Full Metal Jacket 50 rounds 1E802110 1 $22.99 USD $22.99 USD Aguila 22LR Ammunition 1B222320 Interceptor Hyper Velocity 40 Grain Copper Plated Round Nose 50 rounds 1B222320 1 $8.99 USD $8.99 USD
@@GunSam I currently don't own a 380 but I did up until a year ago. Now I have a 9mm, 45 and a TX22 like yours except black. I always watch your videos even if I don't own that particular caliber. Your videos are very informative. Been watching since the good old bologna and water jug days, lol.
i own and/or have shot several handguns chambered in 22lr and 22wmr, easily 30,000+ rounds total. considering prices and availability of both handguns and ammo in both calibers, my own experiences, my own conclusions are: 22lr in a decent semiautomatic pistol (mine is a ruger sr22) for one and done, rimfire handgun, first place. 22wmr in a single action revolver (mine is a 5.5”, 22lr/wmr, ruger single six) more for outdoors use, second place. relying on a rimfire for protection means a fast and accurate ammo dump of cci stingers, followed by a fast reload, to which my sr22 is proven. 22lr is easier on the wallet and senses for alot more fun practice.
Before the 22LR started having problems, I was thinking that the TX22 could use one of those Glock style switches for full auto. That plus a 32 round magazine would make it like a zipper! lol I mean there would be no problem holding all the rounds on target.
I have a question about your dangerous game test. Have you considered cutting the blocks diagonally so that you can see if there is any deflection? I understand that would make it slightly less consistent for the deaf traveled before impacting the MDF, but it could give some decent information on whether or not the board is going to go straight through a target
Chippewa/Ojibway. We found stone arrow heads that were done very well, and the reason for the hill is it's right by a river. I cannot speak about actual time frames and all of that but the reservation starts about two miles to the right.
I'm always curious what the .22wmr would do from a rifle barrel in the same gel/mdf test. Would the crazy additional speed slow it down a lot sooner? Expand it bigger? Over-penetrate? It's not really relevant because few would use it for defense of property or home in a rifle. Consider it a science question I guess.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H7drG-ZxI-4.html that's the video I remembering seeing. Now on to see if I remembered right about 15" lol. My memory sometimes don't work great.
Skew what results? I am not sure what that means. You can't not have a cylinder gap on a revolver, and a revolver is ten times more likely to be the handgun style that .22 WMR is fired through. So I am going to say NO, it does not skew anything. Even if one wanted to argue that the oddball .22 WMR semi auto is more popular (which it's not) taking off 60 FPS (average percent gap loss from 1,360 FPS) is only going to add 15 ft lbs more energy on that little 40 gr bullet.
And? I don't know what you are getting at, other than to complain about things impossible to change. Yes, a cylinder gap is 1% to 10% potential velocity loss, and towards the lower end like 20-30 FPS lost when the caliber is weaker. I personally don't think about losing 20 FPS and complain that this is SO important, I should use a clunky semi auto .22 WMR to be "fair". Fairness resides in the real world.
This eval. just reinforces my reluctance to use .22l.r. cartridges for self-defense . I know Winchester & Remington have greater failure rates , but I've had failures with all the manufacturers .The .22mag. , like you said , seems to work most of the time and I can't recall ever having a dud or general failure with this cartridge .You know , you can own the best , most expensive l.r. firearm on the market for self-defense , but if the ammo is unreliable then what's the point . Just my opinion . Great Test , Gun Sam !
