TFL is a great truck channel and Truck King also, I was shocked when they broke the Tacoma and they looked shocked themselves. The Car Care Nut is the best channel if you are into Toyotas. Toyota hit it out of the park with the best looking Tacoma so far with the refresh but really dropped the ball on QC and the companies other issues.

@ArchangelMLM agree on all points. Until this year I loved toyota and had 4 in my name a year ago. This year toyota corporate dropped the ball and now in 2024 it's the company I like the least. Not because of the trucks, but because of the company right now

Ultimately the issue is that Toyota seems to have opted to cut corners and save tons of money by mostly carrying over the drivetrain from the previous truck instead of beefing all the components up to handle the torque. Instead, they tried to protect all these components by using software limits to protect various weak points like the manual transmission and ADD. I think that they are wrong or lying about the incident that the Truck King was involved in, and that he shifted from 5th to 3rd but the rev matching calibration was off and destroyed the clutch. Had he shifted to 1st gear at the speed he was moving at, the rear tires would have at least chirped and the engine would have have revved way past redline, not just revved to 4500 rpm. It's disappointing to say the least. They're going too light on the drive train components and trying to do too much with software limits.

I asked a Toyota salesman what happened to the new Tacoma? He said, “Toyota made this for their main customer. Over 50 and retired men who want a truck but not a full size truck. Many of them have trouble getting into a full-size truck. Toyota did listen to their main market. Unfortunately, their main market likes tech and comfortability, not capability. They’re also the largest population and have most of the money compared to younger generations.” I realized that I see fewer young men driving Tacomas compared to older guys driving them. Toyota did listen to their market. Can’t be mad at that (I am upset that 2023 was the last of an icon). However, I think, majority of older guys don’t want off-roading capability. They want to say they drive a “truck” but want it to be comfortable. Just how it is. Is it right? Majority of their previous customers (where they got survey info from) think it is 🤷‍♂️. I think everything comes and goes in cycles. People no longer need trucks for what they used to need them for. I’m not going to buy one though. I predict if we want an “off-road” truck in the future, we’ll need to create them ourselves.

I kinda think that Subaru did the same thing with the CVT in the Outback Wilderness. Since it has the turbo, it puts out much more HP and torque compared to the NA 2.5L engine. I've driven the NA 2.5 models and the CVT feels fine. I can definitely tell it's a CVT, but it's actually not bad. But the tuning on the 2.4T really seems to remove a LOT of low-end torque that I think is to lessen the chances of CVT chain slip.
@djjd3027
@djjd3027 14 дней назад
This is just engineering short falls all the way around. In the TFL video the engineer stated that they have been using the same ADD for years without issue. Well if you look the 3rd gen Taco, it made 265lbfts at 4600rpms. The second gen made 266 at 4000rpms. This one makes over 300 at around 2700rpms. That's a huge difference in how much and where it hits. I watched the Truck king video. There's noway he went in first. That's just a major cop-out by Toyota. Also there's a reason they have a stop sale on all manual transmissions. A lot of this doesn't bode well for this Tacoma. I'm really disappointed. I wanted one of these specifically because you can still get them with a stick. Plus the power delivery looks so much better then previous gens. But the quality is just not there, nor is the engineering behind it.
@Jason-Samko

@djjd3027 hopefully toyota will get these issues solved over the next year or 2 and it will regain that toyota badge of honor
@wilyceyote
@wilyceyote 15 дней назад
The biggest problems with the manual transmissions are you can’t shift it like a sports car because it’s a truck, and the reason why automatic transmissions breaking because weren’t designed for the torque and the horsepower the vehicle weight and pay load as well the engineers under designed them because vehicle weight and fuel economy and because people don’t comprehend it’s a small pick up truck it can’t carry as much as an F150 just saying
@Holden-McGroin

I think Toyota was the first to offer a selectable front locker in the US in the Landcruiser. The fact they no longer offer one in anything when everyone else does is absurd.
@Jason-Samko

@Holden-McGroin agree. Especially when toyota knew all other brands now offer a midsize with a front locker (except nissan). And with the tacoma just coming out after all others they will be a no front locker midsize for the next 8 or 10 years. Way behind the others.
