The clear on my carbon fiber spoilers has been oxidizing and cracking. Had to sand off old clear, take off spoilers, and repaint with SprayMax 2K urethane clearcoat. Prepping and fixing the eBay carbon fiber was the most tedious part.

I used 120 grit to get through my clear peeling clear coat. On my Tesla model 3 performance carbon spoiler

Use a ceramic coating like Gyeon Pure with 80% SIO2 and it will leave a very thick(still very thin) coating. High UV A and UV B inhibitors in it, good for 18 months and longer using Gyeon Cure as a topper monthly. It will take 24 hours to cure but 5-7 days to fully cure. It will look crazy shiny when you're done. Buff out the whole car and coat it, you'll be glad you did. Good work on the spoilers BTW.

Thanks...i'm actually thinking of doing full ceramic coat of my car. Should have been doing my paint correction the past 2 months but will get to in soon before I do the ceramic. Maybe do a few panels every night so my wife doesn't yell at me for being in the garage all day.

@@TunerwithKids When you get ready to make the coating purchase see if the graphene coatings are available. Right now you have to be certified for the good ones but the tech is coming for us to apply it. Good Luck

I actually just ordered AvalonKing Armor Shield ix, got enough to do the IS and the van. Not looking forward to the prep work. I need to clean, clay, compound and polish....errrrr.

The JB clearweld takes forever to cure its not that you didnt mix enough hardner, I've had the same issues before.

Hey bro I’m not trying to sound rude but epoxy resin and epoxy glue are two totally different things. You should be using epoxy resin to fill those holes and not Apoxsee glue. I recommend amazing clear cast epoxy. The stuff is so durable I’ve used it in parts underneath my hood and it holds up just fine.

It’s good so far. No issues with it. I use all the time now so I’m happy with it. Much easier than cleanup after using compressor and spray gun.

So I’m actually installing my trunk spoiler at this moment and was wondering if it sits flush with the stop of trunk or if it’s slightly in.

The Don iDK, it holds a place in my heart. I was considering selling it a few years back, but at the time it was worth like $9k and I felt it was worth more as a daily driver. I’d probably buy another project before I ever sell this.

Hey man so I was thinking of buying a similar trunk spoiler as yours and a roof spoiler like the one you have both from seller Racing Gear. Do you recommend them? And do you think I should clearcoat them upon getting them, since I noticed you said they probably do not come clear coated.

For the price, its good value. I would recommend doing a 800 grit block sand of the resin and spraying a few wet coats of 2K urethane before install for UV protection. As I suspect in my video, they probably just polished the resin without UV protection and explains why they have oxidized in less than 2 years when I am usually garaged. I will have the wetsand/buff/polish video of the clearcoat I sprayed up in a week or two.

@@TunerwithKids absolutely.sound advice. A lot of carbon fiber does not come with clear coating so it must be done by the buyer.

I’m garaged most of the time. The roof spoiler was like two years. The resin wasn’t too great on it. The trunk spoiler was about 2-1/2 years. It started hazing.

What do you use to sand the oxidize for the carbon fiber ?

600 grit then clear coat. Needs a rough surface for clear to adhere.

That was two hours cured. I wait a week and then wet sand 1000 up to 1500 or 2000 and compound/polish for shine and fix any dust or imperfections. I’ll have a video of that soon.

If you do a good wet final coat with no runs or dry edges, you can forgo the wet sand. But I’m perfectionist so little things bother me so I do the extra steps.
