I agree it is terrifying to think just how many people in the olden days before embalming was around that this happened to. It would of been pure hell a living nightmare.

Those A$$ Holes would say they begged for their life as they were being buried 😔 It was his second case due to Florida’s new death row law. Btw The ringleader was a 17-year-old girl 🤬 little B1tch!! One of the jerks was just taken off of death row. His case was about a month ago.

Apparently they did not work properly. I’m a nurse and I have pronounced many people dead over the years I worked in nursing homes. And it truly amazes me that so many people were mistakenly thought to be dead there are a lot of signs of death. Thank god times have changed and this nightmare hopefully does not happen anymore but I’m sure in underdeveloped countries it still does.

@@raynadixson8010 I was shocked at how many times this has happened in the last 20 years alone. It's not frequent, but it shouldn't ever happen in modern times! One of the cases I read about the patient had an extremely rare condition in which the heart would stop beating for several minutes at a time, which in a case like that it's at least understandable how a mistake could be made. The lady I mentioned in the above comment also had some kind of rare condition that contributed to her being pronounced dead while she was technically still alive, but I'm not sure what it was exactly. Back in the 1800s many people would have a bell above ground attached to a wire that went down into the casket so they could alert someone in case they were buried alive. I cannot think of too many things that would be more terrifying than being in a cemetery and suddenly a grave bell started vigorously ringing! I'd probably have a heart attack myself!

@@birdflipper I agree it should not be happening at this point in time with all the advanced medical knowledge now it’s crazy to think they cannot tell if someone is dead or alive before a burial. And yes I cannot imagine the terror of this happening to someone it gives me chills!!

I couldn't imagine coming to relocate my loved one's remains and finding out that they were buried alive. Traumatic AF.

I visited St. James to see his grave years ago. It was so peaceful there. I love Wilmington. If I didn't live in Boone that would be my home or Norfolk VA. Wilmington is awesome!

Hi, I'm hoping that those that are cremated are absolutely 100% without a doubt deceased b4 being put in that oven!!! Being buried alive, especially when you can hear what's going on but can't move to do anything about it, has got to be terrifying but knowing your about to be put in that oven has got to be just as terrifying!!! I can only pray I don't suffer either fate!!!

@@witchofthewildwoods3496 It's funny you say that cause I just seen a coffin made out of mushrooms, that's right mushrooms, that helps break down your body quickly so there's virtually no time for bacteria to grow and then the coffin itself breaks down into nutrients that promote nutrient rich soil... I think that's a great idea... No more wasted space for cemeteries and it provides for the 🌎 People are coming up with great alternatives to the standard... I would rather have my body do something positive for the planet and for people...

I went in 1997. The church was locked at the time but my friend and I managed to talk to a preacher at St. James so we were able to see his grave. Maybe it's more open to the public now?

I once saw the ghost of a little girl standing right beside my bed after opening my eyes shortly after laying down for bed. She didn't say anything, we just looked at each other for I'd say at least 15 to 20 seconds. When she disappeared it wasn't like a light switch was clicked off and she instantly disappeared-- instead it looked like molecules of energy dissipating. I never told anyone about what happened, but around a year later I went to a Halloween party and overheard a girl that I've never met before tell a story about the ghost of a girl who bounces pennies off the floor on the same floor of the building I lived in, which happened to be the top floor of a 150+ year old building that was renovated into loft apartments. I was quite shocked to hear that other people have described seeing the exact same thing as me, except when I saw her she wasn't bouncing pennies.

Allegedly spirits are very unsettled after death, particularly violent deaths of young people. It's more than possible that your friend was only guessing where he was, if he had a guilty conscience; "Actually pretty good" is nowhere a description of Hell.

There actually were patents on inventions like that to make a noise or otherwise attract attention. There were also iron 'cages' to fit over graves to keep graverobbers out.

Early 1800s. But not all cemeteries used them. Night watchman would listen for the be. Known today as the graveyard shift. With autopsies being almost standard . It eliminates accidentally burying people still alive.

This is why I'm opting to be cremated just to be certain.
