Vermicompost … might be better to fill the whole bath with moist (brown) organic material and cardboard for bedding as the worms will multiply fast if they have the food to do so. I basically treat them the same as my chickens - avoiding onion skins and citrus - but pretty much anything else goes. I don’t find meat is a problem for the worms (or any type of composting - I’ve hot composted whole dead chickens and even a deer that was killed and half eaten in my woods). The only issue is whether meat encourages rats. Or javali. But with all those multiplying cats, it ought to be OK as far as rats are concerned! Nice channel - just found it thanks to Frankie Off Grid’s recommendation.

Thank you for this wonderful post. We did already add some more, but it is not full yet :) How about the temp of the tub? Are you in a hot area? We are a little worried about high summer. which can be consistently 30 degrees here..

@@thefarmingchefs Keep your bathtub in the shade. If necessary, you could create a container for it to act as a buffer to the heat. The worms will die if they get hotter than 28C. This is a good reason for loading up the bath with organic material - you can’t really overdo it - as then the worms can migrate from the edges to the centre where it’s cooler. Make sure to keep it moist with regular watering if it gets super hot. Worms need 60-70% humidity. (I designed a vermicomposting toilet system for off grid living. Lots of people have installed it now and it works well. I have one tank in full sun in summer with just a wooden container and shade cloth lid. The worms are very happy in there … though of course they’re being cooled and hydrated by the flush water from the toilet every day.)

Lambs! Kittens! Herb garden! Such joy❤. Thanks to Dylan for the book recommendations. My heart is for trees too. My grandfather created a forest/woodland. When each child and then grandchild was born, he would choose trees that he felt were for that person and plant them. Same for his friends and eventually in laws etc From empty barren land there was an entire forest eventually. Very beautiful.

What an amazing thing to do! This is such a great idea. I will have to copy this :D We are planning on planting loads more as well. The problem in our area is water, but we will manage to get a system going that will sustain itself. Thanks Candy, for this wonderful message
