My old bus driver when I was a kid always fascinated me watch her drive only toched that clutch to start and stop and made that bus zoom...especially on field.trips. Shed be rolling! Omg omg I finally saw a video of a 10 speed bus we’re 5th gear is usually we’re 4 th gear is brings back memories of when I was a kid ! I was in The Rowland Unifield School District and all the buses that wasn’t 5speed that were 10 speeds rather Crowns or Gilligs that was there gear ratio even the older 10 speed so ranging from 1969-1990 all of there 10 speeds were where 5th gear was were 4 th gear and 4 th gear is where usually 5 th gear is so I’m assuming the District must have specially ordered it like that because none of there 10 speeds were the regular standard pattetn like the other districts !!
I was in the Covina Valley Unified School District. All of our Crowns were four or five speed, and all manuals, because we had some of the very older models. All of the older models had Hall Scott engines in them. The rest of the Crowns had Detroits. The three Gilligs had Allison automatic transmissions. I was never a fan of the Gilligs. Always loved the Crowns.
I was in Rowland unified and all thru 20 speeds were 5th is were 4th usually is even they had a 1969 10 speed gillic the same way they had 1971 1973 1975 and 3 1985 gillic with the black tented windows bus 15 ,17 and 18 that were 10 speeds with 5 th gear ware 4 th usually is then all of their crowns bus # 2,4,6,8,,13, 14, 16,19,20,21,22 all different years but 10 speeds with 5th ware 4th usually is and then they had some more Gillics bus # 1,5,7 same style but one was the 1969 one and their ten speeds were the same way . Bus# 3,4,9,10,11,12 and old bus#6 were 5 speeds that got converted to the bus library and music studio bus . They had a 1959 no nose bluebird and carpenter that were 5 speeds old bus 19 and old bus 11 that were also converted to a music and library bus!!! This was over 30 some years ago I loved it I miss it!!!
We had just a few 10 speeds and only 3 drivers I knew of...the rest were all 5 speed crowns. Fontana Unified School District. The Gilligs were no fun at all...they had a ton of the Thomas buses (automatic)
Never a clutch THOTTLE control. I was also a trainer you don't need the clutch there is no synchros in the transmission it will still grind with the clutch
