how is it fair .. its only import csv and it gets extracted to content builder.. no samples for importing photos or other files which can be used to be linked in email.. ?? :(
Thanks for the video. It's very helpful for me a newbie in MC ocean. I've an question for the Manual Mapping. How can someone have the file before it's being imported and map the fields? If we don't know what would be the header of the file coming from FTP location how the mapping could be done?
Ideally you would be knowing the headers of the file you will be importing - you would work with the external stakeholders who will be sending you the file to agree on the file format and headers. I haven't seen a scenario where someone would be sending in a data file without reviewing the format and mapping across both parties. Best option would be to match the headers with the names of the DE columns. If that does not work, then get a copy of the file to your desktop. While configuring the import, when you specify map manually, the system does allow you to choose a file from your desktop - as long as you select the file that you received from the external system for mapping purposes, the import definition will store this mapping.
Is there any flexibility with the File Naming Pattern? Can't find documentation specifying anything other than a restrictive Name+date variable convention. This would destroy any import names into a homogenous pattern that will make it difficult to trace back the original source.
Pls chk help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_substitution_strings_example.htm&type=5. These will help if you dont want to specify the exact file name - if you have a filedrop trigger for a folder (any file - no naming pattern), then u can drop in any file in the ftp folder and once the automation triggers, u can then process the transfer / import. In such cases, since you dont knw the file name, you can use the substitution strings and dont have to rely on specific patterns
You have to go to Setup > Data Management > File Locations - create a new entry for identifying this new folder you created (remember you need a separate entry for each folder you want to use as a location - it will not take sub-folders by default) - so let's say your subfolder under Import is called Orders, then create an entry called "Order Import FTP Folder" - select Location type as "Relative Location under FTP site" and then in Relative folder path type in "Import\Orders" - once you save and go back to your import activity you should be able to see this new file location and use it.
Is there any personalization string that can be used in the file naming pattern, if the filename on sFTP has a 'month name' instead of a month number? I see that %%xtmonth%% isn't supported on file naming pattern right now when I try to use it. Thanks in advance!
help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_es_file_naming_patterns.htm&type=5 - these are the filename patterns allowed as of now. xtmonth is not for file patterns but to be used in Email personalization (like in the subject line or body). You can also try using help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_substitution_strings_example.htm&type=5 for filename pattern matching.
Can SFMC unzip a file with name pattern ending in ".csv.gz"? I'm getting an unspecified error and that's the only thing I can think is an issue. Thanks!
I believe they are supported - its mentioned in the help doc as well. If its not working, do raise a case with support team and see if they need to enable anythg for gzip support salesforce.stackexchange.com/questions/291786/does-salesforce-marketing-cloud-support-gz-compressed-files help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mc_as_file_management_with_the_file_transfer_activity.htm&type=5
Can this process be used to import a Salesforce Report (Sales Cloud). Report was generated within the Salesforce (CRM) selecting the target audience. We'd like to 'refresh' the selection weekly.
Yes Sally - this is possible. Go to Email Studio > Interactions > Imports - create an import definition and configure it to use Salesforce Objects and Reports (File Location) - choose the appropriate report you need. Please note that Salesforce Objects and Reports should be configured in File Locations under Setup. Also you will need to have Marketing Cloud Connect set up with integration between SFMC and CRM. Once you have configured the Import definition in Email Studio, you can go to Automation Studio > Create new Workflow - drag an Import Activity - and then in the list of activities, you will see the import definition you just created - choose this. Do note that you won't be able to make any edits to the Import Definition from Automation Studio - but can do from the Email Studio > Interactions section.
