Get a peek at the upcoming experimental Water tools releasing in UE 4.26! Ryan Brucks will start with a breakdown of the new Single Layer Water shading model and then show how Water Bodies create cohesive water features. We will then go over new features such as Gerstner Waves, Fluid Simulator, Caustics generator and how they can be connected together.
NOTE: Ryan's screenshare quality improves a couple of minutes into the livestream.

What an amazing feature! Thank you so much for the in-depth showcase! It's super cool to see how simple rulesets all build up into this beautiful, complex effect. THE CHROMATIC ABBERATION AT 1:47:05 AS PARTICLES HIT THE WATER WHAT!! woooooow I also just wanted to point out what a good job Victor is doing. He's _on top_ of it basically the entire time, immediately moving the cameras out of the way when he notices the mouse cursor is going to a place where the cameras would obstruct our view, monitoring the quality of the stream, keeping tabs on this and that, giving Ryan space to talk and basically only butting in when necessary / when prompted-- you don't notice what he's doing as a host because he's doing it so well. Great stuff, Vic!

Great video, thank you for bringing it to unreal engine. I have 14 water related projects from marketplace and this is by far the most advanced water related content I have seen that is actually going to be part of the engine itself. This is going to be a big game change for me and many other people.

Epic this is amazing. the foam needs abit of pollishing and twiking but other then that this deminstration is amazing. would love to see this as well as RTX pared with CD-MPM

Great video on a blank level, but when you add this water to your world composition with texture, all you see is the splines and the cube of the actor. I really look forward to WORKING water.

The roughness of the rock material needs to be changed when the waves crest over them, so the that they look wet, anyway to use the water wave as a mask for the rocks roughness, and then adjust it over time to look like its drying out

Groom hair system is *NOT production ready* as of 4.25. It doesn't make any sense to make full fledged docs or detailed tutorials for an experimental/beta feature.

I'm a bit late to the party but in case you or anyone else is still looking, I haven't found the exact maps that Ryan was using for this but you can find most of the blueprints he was using by enabling the water plugin for 4.26+ and then in your content browser settings, enable "Show Plugin Content" and "Show Engine Content" both, you can then find the Water Content section near the bottom or with the content browser search.

When will refraction in water bodies comes? It's just a mapped scaling effect when looking at waters from the air, and a different camera settings looking around underwater.

we really need a tutorial on the 1:20:54 section of the video. from scene setup and creating all the MIDs right through to the end. I haven't been able to find anything in terms of how to create this yet. Does anyone else know where I can start looking for now?

Is it possible to make a really small amount of water remain on the rock material so that it looks wet? Instead of the wave going over it and the the rocks are immediately dry again? possibly add some surface shine where the water touches.

You could use Virtual Textures like shown in this other video from the Unreal Engine channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gbj1qgPOl3E.html The example given at the timecode (14:29) in the linked video is specifically about blending water and landscape to give the landscape a wet effect.

why ocean water doesnot work on imported tiled heightmap from world machine or world creator 2? is their any settings? i realised that wates does not work properly if the landscape is sculpted first and then added water..

I can’t seem to add an ocean to a tiled landscape that I imported into a level. It’s about 12km by 12km. I got a heightmap from tangram, converted to grayscale 16bpp, tiled it, enabled world comp, made new level, imported tiled landscape with enabled edit layers. It makes the landscape, but when I add an ocean, it either shows no water, or I disable “affects landscape”, and the terrain is almost all gone. Idk what to do.

Im super new to Unreal. I am opening up unreal engine version 5 and the third person template. I then delete most of the geometry. Ive tried adding a landscape and the ocean water actor. I am getting a complete hard edge to the landscape no matter what I do with the float curve.

My thing is how do you put this in your own project? The fluid-sim blueprints and such. I seem to be getting a bunch of errors when trying. I've followed the tutorial up and down trying to figure out how to do it. But no luck. :/

Works great but the effect doesnt seem to trigger on my AI with the Effector. It is set up the same as with my Third Person player except that one works. Can you help with that?

Hi! I have a question. I did the ripples using the Bp_fluid sim but my landscape is not flat, it has different heights and I have a problem with this. I have ripples in one height but not in the others. I built (with a coworker) a complex system in the Bp_fluid sim. But, it´s a madness because we need to calculate the heights all the time, and even that doesn´t work correctly. I´m asking you, is there a way to do this? I mean, how can I make the ripples in different heights in my landscape?

Is it possible to add multiple ocean bodies of water to create several islands, or should you just use one ocean body and make islands around them. I notice that this tool in UE4 doesn't work too well with world composition and streamline levels for open world maps.
