Hi Mike!!😀😀 You asked the question why they call it a rick. A rick is a stack of wood 4 feet tall and 8 feet long and can be any length of firewood. From 8 inches to 4 feet long. So you could actually have a half a face cord in a rick to a full cord in a rick. That is my take on a rick anyway. Take care my friend and don't work too hard!!😀😀👍👍💪💪 Logger Al
@WSTMike

Logger Al!! Thank you very much for the comment and explanation. The rick sounds like a sliding scale. You just don’t know what you are going to get. I haven’t had this much fun in the woodyard in awhile. I was really looking forward to 4 days. Thanks for watching and commenting! WST

Owning a tree service company I deal with a lot of limb wood being we have a very hard time getting rid of chips. Instead of chipping them I bring them back and process them for firewood. I purchased a Japa 365 Pro for my smaller diameter logs. My Eastonmade 22 28 is for the big rounds. I just take some time and sort out the cleanest logs and trim them down as clean as possible. We can make premium firewood out of limb wood. I does take a bit more thinking but the Japa makes up the time.
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 года назад
Hello MJM! I agree that limb wood can be premium. My issue is filling my woodshed with it and then having to take time to load into the boiler. I use the limb wood for campfires etc. Anything I cut does not go to waste, at all. The Japa 365 is a nice machine and perfect for processing that. I really appreciate the well thought out comment. Well said. Hope to see you again in the comments soon. WST

I am 2 days late. A very inter-active video sir. The rick/cord question has been answered well by the viewers, the left-handed saw was also a good observation. The only thing I can add is that you said "premium" 10 times. My accent gives me away but does not necessarily reflect my intellect. In addition to uniformity in dimensions, kiln treatment may also be required depending on use and/or relocating the wood especially near or in state and federal woodlands. Very enjoyable production sir...
@WSTMike
@WSTMike 2 года назад
Hi Brian, I appreciate you watching. I don’t script my videos. I just say what comes to mind. I was thinking about the Rick and decided to ask the question. It seems to have varying dimensions and was confirmed by the viewers. You intellect must friend is never in question. I’ve watched your videos and you are highly competent and well spoken. Respect. I like the word premium because it is overused and can be overrated. I think I proved that 🤣 Glad you enjoyed the video. Just being myself. Take care my friend.

Hey, who doesn't like making noodles?! When I have rounds too big to pick up and I have my tractor handy I'll put them in the bucket then load off bucket right onto the splitter. When I don't have the tractor handy I lean a 4x4 against the splitter and roll them big buggers up to the platform. But, who doesn't love noodles?

It's called a face chord because when wood is 16" long and stacked, it takes three rows, 4ft tall, and eight ft. long to make a chord. Each row, or face, is a face chord. That's what I was told anyway.

In Ohio it is not allowed to be called a Rick can only be sold by a cord or portion of a cord I have seen people sell what they call a Rick 4x8 anywhere from 12 inches long to 18 inches long you get ripped buying 12 inch wood

Hi Larry! Thank you for your comment on the Rick’s. Not trying to make this a Mason/Dixon kind of thing, but that is something I’ve always wondered. Sounds like the Rick’s can be cheaters on the length of the wood. Good for Ohio standing up to them!! Take care my friend and thanks for watching. WST

Well I guess it has to do with how you learned to call it. A Rick there is no true definition for it but it's half a cord.but over time it has went from 4x2x8 to 18"x4'x8 if lucky for some reason everyone wants 16-18" wood .and on the five blocks should give you a face cord
