No ENTP is the same, and, while personality is comprised of more than just cognitive functions, there are cognitive variations that can occur between one ENTP and another - these variations can be defined through subtypes.
This video explores these variations, touching also upon the potential for combining all subtypes through individuation.

About me:
Hi, I'm Harry, and I'm intensely passionate about personality typing and self-development - so much so that I have created my own Jung-inspired system, taking a more high-resolution look at the factors making up personality.
Through Cognitive Personality Theory I examine the underlying mechanisms behind cognition, and the means through which a single type can have limitless individual variation - I believe type itself is just a set of cognitive predispositions that can according to the needs of the situation be overcome.
I don't believe any type is limited in what they can achieve, but have noticed sensationalist attitudes and internet trends propagating a culture in which type-development is actively discouraged in favour of conforming to simplistic archetypes. Through CPT I hope to dispel various myths and oversimplifications of what constitutes personality type, and along the way encourage a healthier attitude towards type that allows a person to become not who they are told they are, but rather who they want to be.

Sign of an ENTP. Watched one of your ENTP videos then came across this one, thought it was too long so didn’t follow through. But came back again cause the curiosity was nagging at me.

Interesting, I came across one of his videos, found it interesting that he was the first to share a perspective I somewhat related to (watched the whole 30 minutes, some parts were hard though, mostly the stuff that didn't apply). Afterward, I watched this entire video... well I might have stopped listening a little when it got to the Patreon stuff at the end of the second one.

Ive never heard of this related to entp bc I kind of thought I (am) enfp, but I switch videos, or pause multiple times, wander off to read comments etc. But at times to go back just bc the nagging curiosity. How si this entp thing? Regardless. It’s interesting yet frustrating bc at the end of the day , I question how relevelnt and/or helpful this stuff is. But yet it’s highly interesting.

I am a 72-year-old ENTP. I would say that I and have used the features of all these subtypes at different times my life. That's because life takes us through stages and provides different circumstances that require us to use different parts of the personality, and pay less attention to other parts, for different periods of time.

Yes! I couldn't agree more with this perspective, and I'm glad your own experiences back this up - subtypes are far from static, and will very naturally change over the course of one's life :)

In a few days I, too will be 72 and I agree wholeheartedly with you. I used to be so confused but with age some wisdom and relief did come. (But I still don't act and feel like my chronological age, actually I feel the spirit of a teenager in me more and more. It is fun, especially since I now know what to avoid).

i agree! when i had 14-20 years i was very "intp" (entp divergent) and, when i was 24 i started to be most "entp" (more extrovert and aunderstanding or Fe user). Actually, i think that my development is more afective, sweet and soft with others and myself (similar to enfp expression or F typology) and entp/intj middle in my function (entp ambivert), probably because i have ideas more clear about my life (just a little haha) and i understand my feelings better (more development of FI or more emotional inteligence with myself, because feelings always be here but i feel drowned when i tried to understand them). Anyway, thank you for your coment, i learn about your experience and try to contribut from mine. Is important for me to say that i'm a woman 5w4 eneagram and have 30 years old. Although the "entp style" develops my arrow to 7 more than what normally happens to us 5, initially I am a more thoughtful and sensitive person, and feel like in the middle to feeling and thinking despite the fact that finally my decisions are more cerebral haha.

I've been looking for this video for a while now. I feel like the media often stereotypes ENTPs to an extend that I began questioning whether I am ENTP or not. Understanding that there are different subtypes with different dominant functions really puts my mind to ease, especially when you reached the last subtypes. Entps are mostly associated with the convergent subtype on my opinion, which is not the case for all.

I know I’m an ENTP, but since I’ve become more introverted due to the new environment in which I live, I feel like I’m trapped and not able to access my full potentials like before. Your video explains exactly why I feel stuck - I have far less used my Ne-Fe convergent axis. Rather, I’ve overused my Divergent axis (thereby become an ENTP ambivert) and, for quite a long time, obsessed with Te, organizing things and completing tasks. Exactly like you said, I always feel detached from reality, and much less flexible in controlling the social atmosphere like before. I will try individuation and hope I’ll get out of this trap one day 🤞

I was listening to this while doing other stuff. When you started talking about individuated ENTPs, that kinda struck home and seemed to describe me. Cause I like to talk to people and enjoy my time with others, but I am also very interested in philosophy and discussing with others different stuff that happens in the world. While also forming my own opinions when I have the time. Cause I'm not solely just extraverted and social, but I'm also not completely introverted. But ambivert just seems too... bipolar I guess. It seems like you don't necessarily control what functions you're using. While I feel like I can control how I think and what I use to tackle situations.

I’m an ENTP but I find that I jump between types to an extreme. I go through periods (usually months) of excessive observation and introspection, and when I’m done with my reclusive phase, I’ll jump into an extremely convergent ENTP phase. Does this happen often? There isn’t much of a balance for me because they’re so extreme.

I don’t understand how you don’t have more views, this is exactly the type of in-depth explanation I was searching for. I am definitely an convergent ENTP, Which I wasn’t sure if I was even an ENTP anymore since I took a cog functions test online recently and it had Ne/Ti and medium Se. It was confusing for me, I was wondering if I was just a confused mess but turns out I’m fine. As usual lol. The masking thing is 100% on point though, along with almost avoiding being in an introverted mindset + the heavy Fe is on point. I’ve never heard someone actually explain an ENTP and I’m like “yep that’s fully me” It’s usually bits and pieces. So thank you.

Really interesting stuff. Growing up I think I fell firmly into the divergent camp (likely because my ESFJ Mum dominated the realm of convergent Fe/Ne), but during adulthood I've definitely managed to strike a balance with the convergent sub type. The concept of the ambivert is very interesting as well. I've always felt like I have some sort of INTJ alter ego, so this makes complete sense. Another great video all round!

So at 42 as an ENTP, I would say I spent most of my life, originally as a divergent, but then acquired skills that caused me to begin bouncing back and forth between convergent and divergent, maybe even a little bit of time defaulted from what you describe. After my mid 30's however I started becoming far more introverted again, actually just wanting more time to myself and even hit a phase I wished people would just go away. I've always been existential in nature, I would say my whole life I've had a sort of draw towards existential morality and original truth. I often find myself attempting to educate thinkers on the logic behind morality and guiding feelers towards a better understanding of themselves and others. My own work on self-actualization actually sounds very much like your description of being individuated. Currently, at least in this phase of my life, that would be the one of your types I would most identify with. Not by any means superhuman, however, certainly well capable of shedding my own past ignorance in an ongoing need and desire to grow. I could probably reasonably say though that at some point in my life I've spent some time in basically all of these phases though there has never been a time in my life where I was not highly philosophical nor extremely interested in technology and innovation. I've spent some time recently working more with my viewpoints on existential morality and original truth, using them to help other ENTPs, as well as INFJs, and ENFJs. I've always felt that most people around me took a narrow view of the world, but today, I find even the most would-be philosophers and great thinkers could use a little more time together. In truth, Fe and Ti do not need to be oppositional in nature. They can very much indeed work together and they do have a common alignment. It is a path that requires some sacrifice to follow but I will tell you that after finally finding myself on this path for the time I have been, I struggle to see how I ever lived life any other way. As a kid, I was alone most of the time. In my mid 20's, I could hardly be alone with myself. In my 30's, I was starting to balance this out. Today, I divide my time reasonably. Probably 20% studying and learning new skills or improving existing ones, 15% helping others which also feeds my own mind, 25% focused, working to achieve my goals, 35% attending to the physical and emotional needs of my wife and kids, and maybe 5% of my time engaging in the world outside our home. I wouldn't say those numbers are static, just a reasonable assessment of how I would evaluate my life at this time.

This was beautiful to read. I’m in my 20’s now and am training very hard to be as competent of a doctor I can be. Very much in my convergent ENTP phase, I love philosophy and introspection but I need immediate action now so I have to put them in the back burner. I feel like it’s all a balance, as we shift into what benefits us in each stage in life. I’m content with sacrificing depth for efficiency currently, but as I gain competency I find myself reverting back into introspection (it is what gives me peace of mind and keeps me leveled.)

This is so interesting! I've been trying to understand my type more so that I have an idea of what areas I should be focusing on in my personal development. One thing that I have been struggling with is that every single MBTI test I take out there gives me an answer with just about half and half on my P vs J. So seemingly it makes sense that I possibly flip between the two types, yet that confuses me more as, based on my understanding you can only be one type. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Due to watching your videos and reading the e-book, I now understand my type as being an ENTP. For as long as I can remember I was typed as an ENFJ. True I do relate to a lot of ENFJ traits, yet it was the ENTP Empath video that has changed everything for me. From this video, I most identify with the divergent subtype, yet I have the experiences of being able to access all 4 subtypes. All these years I believed there was some thing wrong with me. I thought that I was broken. I thought that I was strange and had multiple personality disorder because of being able to mask and become what a situation needed me to be…although my traits didn’t align with those of the DID diagnosis. I truly appreciate your time, dedication, and time invested into this Doris of psychology because I have been on a quest to understand my identity since a teenager (that’s about 30 years now) and I finally have peace in the Me that God created.🎉 So again, thank you ❤

This was a really interesting video, thank you! I recently found your channel and I really like your system/theory, specifically the concepts of convergent vs divergent functions. I feel like you have a really nuanced understanding of type and all of the subtle interactions between functions and I appreciate that perspective. Anyway, this video gave me a lot to think about! Definitely will take a couple watches for the info to settle in. I’m curious about how you see the difference between a divergent ENTP type and a classic INTP. I can think of at least one introverted ENTP in my life who definitely fits the subtype but can seem like an INTP at first glance. I can sense that they have the exact same kind of internal world or processing that I do that I don’t necessarily see as clearly in INTPs, but they are observably very different from me in how they interact with the world. I’d be interested to know how you would go about explaining that difference between an INTP and divergent ENTP. Also, the ENTP-INTJ ambivert subtype was really surprising to me. I’ve never considered that possibility, and I’ll have to think about it a bit more. One some level it makes sense but on another it feels like it’s crossing the type lines too much. Not sure. Also, I was waiting the whole video to ask you if you think these subtypes are rigid or if peoples subtypes/leanings can change over time! Haha. I think I personally fall somewhere between the convergent and glider ENTP subtypes for most of my life, but I like to think I’ve been growing from that into something more like the divergent type. Anyway. Lots to think about! Thanks for the high quality videos!
@CognitivePersonalityTheory
@CognitivePersonalityTheory 3 года назад
Thanks Ana! Actually, I was wondering how quickly that first question would arise - definitely the one that sprung to my mind before any other while filming this video. In a nutshell, the attitudes is what seperates the divergent ENTP from an INTP - there is some convergent thought, but on the whole the divergent ENTP is more data-oriented, whereas the INTP remains thereotical and rationalistic. A divergent ENTP is still convergent in the Fe too, so while they may avoid situations that demand its employment, they will still be more actively taking possession of a group dynamic than your average INTP (divergent Fe). Furthermore, the divergent ENTP is a convergent Fi user, so tends to reformulate identity more consciously. Haha, yes exactly, subtypes can change and there is potential to move away from them entirely; you may definitely be in between related subtypes like convergent and glider, and may move from divergent to convergent in different parts of life.
@1chienandalou
@1chienandalou 3 года назад
@@CognitivePersonalityTheory both the question and the answer make a lot of sense to me. I’ve always wondered why I was introverted as a kid and then became quite extroverted, then more settled into a I can do both situation but occasionally I wonder if I could be an INTP because I can be so Ti dominant. But ultimately I have a lot of facility with Ne-Fe in social situations, using humor and observation in parallel, as well as a genuine interest the others’ Fe. It has a cost but also is something I don’t avoid, or perhaps even seek in moderation, unlike a true introvert. So in this framework I guess I was at times a divergent ENTP. As I got older and with life experiences, I have gotten a lot better at Fe. I’m even learning Fi, though I’m still pretty slow and clumsy with it, relatively speaking. In addition to life stage, I think context can also have an effect. Sometimes I feel like I act more convergent in social settings, but I more divergent in for example work, which for me may have been a chicken and egg situation, because the kind of work that I do required Ti / Ne-Ti much more than Fe. If my life weren’t so polarized in the demands of my work versus my other interests, perhaps I would’ve been more of an ambivert. Or individuated can be in the cards at times I find more balance... i’m going to think more about this I’m sure. Anyway, Thanks for this video and channel. I find it most informative and explains things in a way that makes sense to me.

And I felt like mine would be my hyperfocusing self (esp when it’s directed at something important). Your comment about needing to overcome circumstances also resonated. I can be more J, at least in some areas of life or at some times, because I had to be, or else I’d be stuck in freedom limiting situations. Conversely I think having certain things happen to me at a young age helped me to develop Fe earlier than I would have, as otherwise I was more of the divergent type described here.

I'm on a binge! I used to be obsessed with cognitive functions and I'm an ENTP so this was the perfect video to jump me back into the debate.i think ive switch between most of these subtypes at some opint in my (short) life, except the glider, while the ambivert/default/individuated subtypes really sound too idealistic to compare myself to. ive always felt conflicted as to why my Fe is so strong, yet I never felt totally in control of it as a dominant function, unlike Fe-doms like an ESFJ. at the same time, i have mostly been driven by an internal logical framework leading me down many unconstructive rabbit holes, leading me to become what people called an "underachieving overachiever", which really speaks to the power struggle between my Ti aux and Fe tertiary functions. even now, i have a university interview in engineering in 2 days, yet i am binging your youtube channel. anyways, well, this was really insightful!

I'm a enneagram 8w9 like "I'm doing it with full force, and then I'm quite good" (best of two worlds) or "doing nothing at all, because it's just so uninteresting, that none of my functions finds it necessary to show up" :D! Divergent ENTP, probably. I'm not attached to submit or comply to Fe as it tires me out. So, despite the talent I have for it, I put efforts to avoid it altogether. Would not say that it's an easy thing though, I still struggle to avoid getting into this NeFe mode even for today. Very nice video here, guess my battle to determine whether I'm an ENFP or ENTP was put at full stop at your channel. @@CognitivePersonalityTheory My theory is that it has to do with the intuitive bias. Do you have any theories as to why ESTJs get such a bad rep on the internet? And yes, the Ne can be intense
@CognitivePersonalityTheory
@CognitivePersonalityTheory 3 года назад
@@benboxall5914 A few things contributed to this bias, one of them being the Big 5 score driving 16 Personalities profiles - therein an S score is synonymous with low openness, which is something rather different from Sensing in MBTI. Then there's the 'tertiary' function of MBTI - where I consider Ne to be the true auxiliary here, MBTI places it 'lower down in the stack'. This on top of the N vs S letters in general leads to the pervasion of said Intuition bias. I'm looking forward to making Sensor Stereotypes Debunked video at some point!

What I did to overcome the trauma I had grown up with was to google, research, and observe people who were not badly damaged, and had confidence and boundaries. I discovered that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy could be helpful, and worked very hard at healing myself. I feel I succeeded, as I have quit being self-destructive, and learned boundaries. Does that seem like the way an ENTP would do this? My progress has set me free to do the human rights activism that is so important to me. My motto is always that a better world is possible. We can do so much better by one another when we understand each other, as well. If I’m working with someone with strong J qualities, I really try to keep everything in order, as I know how chaos upsets them. One effect of doing that is that I pick up behaviors from them that make my life easier, too. We can follow the Golden Rule much better when we realize that everyone is different, and that we can learn from each other.

I cant tell if im unconsciously faking being ENTP or if i've always been like this- i have a lot of the traits but i've been sticking to the stereotypes and denying my authenticity after reading about them and now im just confused. overthinking? let me just describe myself as easily as i can x.x I do love debating a lot and i get annoyed asf when my friends just agree with me to end the argument or just invalidate my arguments with no logical reason Im not very in-tune with myself [thats quite obvious considering i cant tell if im faking or not-] i think i can read people but not to an excellent extent, i often say very hurtful things on impulse [like speak on controversial topics like racism] I do get hurt when i feel rejected from a certain social setting but i dont show it and i either distance myself or go back to acting completely normal [if i no longer feel rejected i dont hold any grudges but i will distance myself if i continue to feel rejected] to be honest ive always procrastinated a lot but i manage to get it done, ive put off studying cuz ive believed pretty deeply in my 'brightness' [it did work out for me most of the times] i dont know if theres anything left to say? i do have pretty low self esteem in general and i do get offended when people doubt my capabilities or criticise me but thats also depending on the person i am usually pretty extroverted in a comfortable atmosphere and i love making people laugh except if im near peers who are closer to eachother than me id either become the 'entertainer' or i would distance myself

Weird. I feel like this describes me way too well. I've been unsure if I'm an ENFP or an ENTP because the descriptions online seem to lean towards the stereotypes. As if ENTPs don't feel anything and all they do is argue. I've almost always been types as a Feeler. However, when I get together with other ENFPs I feel as if I'm way more logically minded and strategic. People often see me as a warm person and open up to me about stuff, but I also am the person who will say, "okay, well lets look at all the possible outcomes or options that you have, discuss them in depth, and then decide what you feel most comfortable with." I feel as though that is a NeTiFe trait. Seeing possibilities, finding which are logically sound, but then understanding the the person you are talking to also has to feel go about their decisions, not just go with the most logical choice. Also, I too have low self esteem in areas of my life and rejection from certain social groups can be very hard. If I feel like I'm not welcome around some people I will put up walls, become quiet, and just observe. Again, the tests seem to function in a way where they focus on the first two cognitive functions, without considering that the 3rd function could be highly developed and almost take over the 2nd function. I'm perceived as a feeler type to most people, but at the end of the day, I am okay with being at home doing my own thing because I don't need to worry about anyone else, and I'm rarely thinking about them. When I am with them though, Fe allows me to understand the correct way to approach an individual without hurting their feelings. ENTPs get a bad rep, I think most Thinking types do. Still confused on my type, but it was nice to talk about it. Lol.

Omg! I didn't know this was a thing that people talked about, but I've been an individuated ENTP for 5 years! I've literally explained MBTI to other people like this, and I've been intentionally trying to balance all of my functions by exercising the opposing ones for the last 8 years. So far I've moved 3 of them pretty close to the middle and I'm working on balancing my J/P right now. Started dating an INTJ (which is fucking magical, 10/10 recommend) and his J is rubbing off on me haha. It helps that he's more than happy to herd me in the right direction lmfaoo. Something I think many people don't understand about MBTI is that it does not measure capacity, only preference. I also believe that we can expand our capacity, and we can do it in both directions at the same time. Just gotta keep exercising all functions and take enough time to consciously utilize them until it becomes habitual and natural. I am definitely an ambivert, I am becoming better at managing my material environment and making practical and precise decisions, I have very high emotional intelligence (and not just for an ENTP, although I am still firmly a thinker and have emotional blind spots sometimes), I am learning to live a more structured and organized life and trying to do things immediately instead of adding them to my list. My goal has always been to be able to utilize what I want as I see fit. You have no idea how much time I've spent thinking about this over the years, literally throughout the day, every day. Thank you so much for this! Can't wait to watch your video on individuation and see how much applies. XD

It definitely balanced my life, but my i found them too much living in illusions too. Combined with not being communicative, the relationship didn’t work. An NTJ may be a better match indeed. Or a healthier NFJ. I’m pretty sure my three main relationships that I don’t know their types were INTJ, INTJ or INFJ, and ENFJ (but slightly E only) and the one I know was ISFP/ESFP (I think the former but pretty close) - which was great in some ways, but nowadays, I think I would benefit more from J partners (in life or work as well)

It amazes me how different ENTPs are from INTPs. The Enneagram helps explain this. On the Enneagram INTPs tend to tritype 549, all withdrawn types. While ENTPs tend to tritype 783, all aggressive types. According to a large Personality Cafe and Typology Central survey (found on Wikipedia) 47% of ENTPs identified as inner fear based Enneagram 7s, while 74% of INTPs identified as outer fear based Enneagram 7s. So while ENTPs can appear fearless on the outside, they often fear the unknown self within.

Yes the Enneagram is super helpful for this distinction! The Ti authority vs Ne authority overlaps nicely with these temperamental predispositions. I'm unfamiliar with outer/inner fear dichotomies though - I've always thought some fears are exclusively in either domain.

The two replies to you will not appear on my scree, but I must add my 2 cents worth. I am 72 years old did the Enneagram and the MB in my late twenties, then again at middle age and now just recently. I am a definite 4 on the Enneagram and an ENTP. However, in my youth I displayed two strong wings, 5 and 3, the strongest being the 3. That changed by middle age, both wings weakened significantly, especially the three. At my more mature age, the wings are even less - occurring more in their positive aspects. I used to seriously worry that I might be schizophrenic. This video laid to rest the last vestiges of that fear and I am deeply grateful for it. I definitely am not an INTP. I have a friend who is one and I cherish his "INTPness". I am also still a 4, although I am sometimes mistaken for a 1. This seems to mean that I have integrated, I do strive quite consciously to take the healty aspects of a 1 which lead to integration. When I was young my teacher called me a "flaming four", sevens have always disliked me (the sadness?) and I don't care for them (superficiality, lack of reality thinking). I am drawn to the 1. My teacher and other people with whom I used to exchange thoughts on that are dead now; I do know they led thinking lives and were beautiful personalities. I totally identify with the issue of fear of an ENTP, my INTP friend is definitely a 5. THANK YOU for bringing up the Enneagram. I think it is a valuable tool in conjunction with MB.

@billbutton7669
@billbutton7669 3 года назад
Thanks for the explanation, Harry. I would say that my default state is probably being divergent. I certainly used to be more convergent, but I've spent so much time with introverts (two INTPs in particular) that I had to think more and talk less to keep from humiliating myself and being yelled at. This past year, I've started reading more and this has made it more natural for me to be in a divergent state. Wait a minute, the past few days I have been rather convergent. Hmm, all these ups and downs. I think that my using of divergent functions, particularly when around company, is a sign that I am depressed or not enjoying the conversation. I definitely see it as a growth state. I wish I could tap into Ti the way you tap into Fe? Or, it could be that it's really Si that I need to grow. Ehh, I need all of them, more function functionality. There is another finding worth mentioning, but I don't want to write too much. I just want to get it out there that when it comes to figuring out why people of the same type are so different, part of it seems to be enneagram instinct and type. For instance, I think that I'm 9w8 Sx/So (if enneagram exists). The 9ness probably makes me a bit less ambitious than most ENTPs (in terms of wanting a divergence from the past). I don't really like societal change and I don't care that much about new technology. I've met two ENTP 7s. They seemed to fit some ENTP stereotypes better. Also, I just realized that some of Objective Personality's ideas about masculine/feminine functions could be related to enneagram instincts. For instance, I think that Sp and Sx would come off rather masculine and So would be more feminine. Anyways, I think cognitive function setup is a great tool for getting a better idea of our proclivities. On the other hand, it could be a sign of what enneagram a person is adapting their functions to (if it is real). Ahh, I don't want to go too far with this yet. Your theory makes a lot of sense to me without needing enneagram factored in. It's just that it's starting to seem, to me anyways, like enneagram types and instincts are real. Even if they aren't exactly as described by the enneagram, they at least hit at something palpable that isn't covered by cognitive functions.

So your personal life story is like a hypothetical scenario that shows us what would happen if an entp experienced x or y. I was in a relationship for 12 years with someone who was my opposite in every way. So I clearly have an experience that makes me a particular type of entp(if that is what I am). Can be individuated ENTP that I enjoy more each situation when I know it previously because I tune myself in the emotional and cognitive state to take the maximum benefit and enjoyment from each situation? But that process take me like one hour. So if I'm learning stuff in my house or making very very deep introspection and also thinking deeply about how world works, I need like one hour to change my mode to a party one, so when I go out I'm really one of the most extroverted person, being at the level of ESTPs and ESFPs, even I don't need to drink and I seem very drunk (a lot of Ne, Se, Fe, Te, as I change the environment also. But I keep a little bit of Ti working to don't die in something too stupid 🤣🤣🤣). Also when I come back home I need one hour to calm myself and sleep or think again in an introspection mode. Also I take advantage of that extroverted mode to clean the house with a lot of energy and don't thinking almost. I always thought that this is like emotional states, but now I realize that there are different cognitive functions. Aren't them? Sorry my English, I'm Spanish.

I see the best way to explore ENTP is to watch a movie together, and let them express themselves. Pause and reflect on what was seen, discuss what's coming ahean, what is the logic of a character, some relevant tropes from other media... Etc. I hate just to silently sit through a movie, if im with anyone else. So all my friends have same preference to watch and comment. Even to "argue with a telly" sometimes 😂😂😂

So that means that my ENTP friend is pretty balanced as he is in the process of becaming the ENTP individuated subtype. As he makes good use of all functions. By praying with the Jesus prayer, he activated the Dialectical-Algorithmic Cognition making him able to access his unconscious and start philosophizing after a social interaction while still keeping his efficiency at work. Amazing! That's why I envy him cause he is so integrated that he appears more INTJ and able than me on the surface. But our main difference is still intensity VS breadth of knowledge. His philosophy till now was more of a blueprint for me to perfect it. Also, have you read my last comment? Please read that article as I think that it will help you in getting aditional knowledge for continuing this series. Also, make the INTJ one next! I already know which subtype I'm. The one who hates reality and it's scared by it and it is on the verge of failing the upcoming session that he has next month. Why I can't choose CPT as my exams subject? I think that I would be able to handle it better. Stupid depression! Other than that, amazing video! Note: In this series bring some tips on how to access the individuated subtype of each type. Could you also emphasize on the role of the subauthority function of the INTJ in caming out of his depression? Cause Personality hacker made a video on the INTJ on how to get out of the Ni Fi loop(intj ego lol) using Ti to build a framework and then act based on it using Te. I think that you can develop their idea even more.

@@CognitivePersonalityTheory Thank you for taking in account my feedback! Also, I was just reading about what socionics type would Jordan Peterson be and most say either ENTJ, ENFJ, INTP(Ti Ne) or other sensor type. But those are all just extremes. Let's not forget that an INTJ is pretty balanced since his thinking is the divergent authority function, and his feeling is in the ego. Also, his use of Dialectical Algorithmic Cognition resembles that of an INTJ or ENFJ. But my ENFJ step mother doesn't have such a complete internal system as I have. I know that she is an ENFJ based on the Supervisor-Supervisee relationship I had with her and based on her Fe-Se tendency to enforce social expectations on me. Just like my ENTJ father. The only difference is that my ENTJ father creates rules in order for her subjective social expectations to have power. Exactly like modern politicians appeal to all kinds of groups expectations just for the sake of keeping the "stability", while still fracturing themselves because of that. Mhmmm... NVM. So in my opinion it seems that we forget to discern the essential(Ti) from the trivial(Te). Also, could your authority function, in this case Te, became creative when you employ it in a convergent manner? Also, is this possible for Ti subauthority as well? As I have seen that I can create hierarchies on the fly in order to support my argument, and my Ni observations and starting axioms. Which my INFJ friend didn't like... Exactly like Jordan Peterson is not liked by manny groups... Also, internally, is a Te or Ti divergent user more unsure of himself than a convergent one since is not part of his ego? Or is the other way around if it is his authority function? Cause internally I'm unsure of everything I say, but externally I may give a false impression of knowing because of my research and reflections. But I'm always open to change my framework if I'm proven wrong. That's only if it is really constructive criticism, if it's something else, then I can became pretty stubborn... Edit: Please get the INTJ one right! I'm sure that I'm an INTJ Ni intuitive subtype based on the facts, but internally I can play devils advocate all day long and get back to being an ENFP... Do it so then I can validate my existence finally! Then I will still find a loophole, but that's another story...

I am so intrigued by the ambivert entp being put in parallel with intj- omg. I always type as an intj, but I could not ever relate to the isolated, socially awkward traits. I felt like I related more to an entp in most descriptions but I lacked the kind of bravado and cockiness that often went with it and also the stamina for socialization that a “true extrovert” has. so I kinda just stuck myself somewhere in the middle of the two because I was always too able to start and carry a conversation for an intj. Would you say an ambivert entp is different from an ambivert intj? Could I be entp who’s subtype more resembles intj or is there an intj subtype that resembles entp? And how would they not be the same type??

The divergent ENTP is still more reactive than proactive, and therefore still bounces off external mediums. The INTP is more divergent in their Fe use, and thus socially observant and less naturally valuing of Fe impact :)

I'm curious how one is to practice becoming aware of the "automation" of processing you were talking about. The brain works fast as light, doesn't it? I think as soon as I start actively thinking something about a thought I "watched", most of this processing has already happened and touched the areas responsible for emotions / cognitive dissonance. I am a little (haha) doubtful if we can truely grab the right part of this whole process and actually change it. But a psyche no longer warring against itself sounds good. Also, did you just literally tell me to question every single situation :DD? I already question my own thoughts so much, I get told by others I overthink the whole time. I wonder if it's me who overthinks or if it's them not thinking enough, though.

This was very interesting to watch, particularly the last part. Judging by the cognitive functions alone I'd say I veer towards Te/Fi by quite a way over Ti/Fe and also Ni over Ne from descriptions I've read (I'm quite fixated and linear in my future planning and philosophising rather than considering "endless" possibilities). I'm fairly certain I'm an Ni/Ne dominant have either Si or Se as my inferior (likely Se as I can relate to the "grip" description in times of stress) so this would make me cognitively an INTJ. However, i've noticed that in certain situations (like school) I come off as the spitting image of the ENTP stereotype (eccentric, disorganised despite not being so, talkative about certain topics, overly opinionated ect...) Could this potentially be explained by being the INTJ version of the last ENTP subtype in this video?
@CognitivePersonalityTheory
@CognitivePersonalityTheory 3 года назад
Interesting! In your case you may very well be predominantly INTJ (perhaps with a slight ENTP leaning), and access Ne-Fe via orientation dip in short bursts - this is not unusual in balanced INTJs. If you're an ambivert the two extremes of INTJ and ENTP would feel equally 'local' - perhaps that is the case instead :)
@dxnwfc8889
@dxnwfc8889 3 года назад
@@CognitivePersonalityTheory appreciate the reply. To answer, I'd say the latter sounds more likely as when I'm extroverted it's solely in order to discuss things that interest me, so the "short-bursts" of Ne-Fe sounds like it would fit. I'd say my cognitition/ego is consistently INTJ but my persona that I give off is around maybe 65/35 INTJ/ENTP depending on the situation i'm in, with the ENTP side only seeing light in certain environments where I'm forced to adapt to a setting I'd rather not be in given the choice. People that don't know me well would 100% go for ENTP but from cognitive functions and people I know well's descriptions of me I'd say INTJ fits more closely. Your "dip" theory for the functions definately sounds plausible in this regard :)

Yesss, I agree that every type has 4 subtypes, it seems like the right number to classify them to understand better the dynamic. So its 64 types with the writing and its technically the right writing even tho I found that 128 might be possible but thats maybe a too far stretch because of expereince and shadow development. In my opinion patheways (shadow developmenet), and experience (levels and dimensions of consciousness) offer the uniqueness of somebody even tho the gravitation of similar individuals might be the similar. Wich prove innate code lol and offer a possible spectrum if we have enough data. We can identify like anomalies and particular set of experiences of same type.

Would love to hear from others about this idea of modulating our Convergent Auxiliary (Tertiary / Child) function based on our attitudes about it. - If we're protective about that function, we dial it down. In balance we are over emphasizing the Authority function, thus turning into the Divergent subtype. It makes us more humble, perhaps anxious. - If we're confident about that function, we dial it up. In balance we are under emphasizing the Authority function, thus turning into the Convergent subtype. It makes us more prideful, perhaps arrogant. - Now a Glider subtype is an extreme Convergent subtype, which instead of under emphasizing the Authority function-- We are totally either ignoring or running away from our Authority function. Extroverts not willing to reflect inward. Introverts not willing to conform externally. I'm just summarizing my interpretation of this video, and trying to add more color in that we can be all of these subtypes depending on our situation.

I lived in a family and culture that was more focused on being humble, and my early life looks like a divergent ENTP, even though I’ve always had pretty strong Fe. My brother is generally a very physically able oerson who can engage with the concrete world by stepping out of his Ne. He basically fot the Glider ENTP when he was in High School, very focused on skillsets and mastery and creating and borrowing numerous social masks to engage woth the outside world. He's basically indistinguishable from certain Fi traits niw that he is relatively balanced, I honestly think his blind spot has becone almost equal to his tertiary Fe, and if it weren't for him, I certainly wouldn't have been able to use my opposing Fe more competently and confidently.
