@@danc9866 working on getting more AR10 upper options. I do not have a specific ETA as building depends on what inventory of parts/barrels we have available to us but hopefully next week or the week after.
@@Bear_Creek_Arsenal , *PLEASE* CONSIDER offering a *LEFT HAND CHARGING HANDLE!!!!* Then one can recharge, while keeping one's right hand ON THE PISTOL GRIP. 🤷♂️
I built a 45 Raptor last year and it will out do both the 450 and the 458 SOCOM. It's more powerful the a 45-70. Side charging rules. I put it on all my new builds.
I have all three of the big uppers.* They all pack a wallop beyond compare. I run nothing but my own loads through all three. For what magazines out there that I have found, the SOCOM runs the best and most reliable. *I have Side and Top Charger .450 Bushmasters, the SOCOM and the .50. The Top Charger is my go to configuration. I'm pretty happy.
I like taking advice from those with experience. So, how does each cartridge rank for difficulty in reloading, component availability, quirks, load development, etc.? Anything to be wary or aware of with each?
@@markchase5323 I don't have any difficulty at all with the SOCOM. The straight wall cases can be touchy if you are seating bullets around a cannelure as you mustn't crimp the case into the groove at all! The projectiles and cases are expensive and these platforms are rough on brass. The SOCOM is the most expensive round of the three, the .450 seems to be the least. The .50 didn't like to chamber Gold Dots because of the massive hollow cavity driving into the breach wall. I ran 350gr Sierra Jacketed Flat Points and they ran flawlessly. The SOCOM is my choice for SHTF loaded with Hornady 350gr Jacketed Round Noses (available seasonally from Hornady) They operate flawlessly in the ten round mags equipped with the proper follower.
@@bigdaano1 Thank you. I picked up a Bushmaster upper in 450. I saw this as a thumper hunting round and as you mentioned it has a lower consumables cost. I definitely can see the SOCOM as a more desirable cartridge for interacting with bad actors.
@@markchase5323 I've loaded this bullet only so far in .450 Bushmaster: www.midwayusa.com/product/1021205831?pid=423499 I had to contact Hornady for C.O.A.L. as they do not have load data for it yet. Hornady Techs listed their Production Load C.O.A.L. as 2.245". This round works great from my Duramag SS magazine.
@@bigdaano1 Just took a peek in my 10th Ed manual and all I noticed on that bullet was crickets. I looked in all my manuals but couldn't find a 458 SOCOM load, strange. Intriguing.
I notice that your 450 bushmaster 16” uppers are sold with different gas blocks, which one is better? .875 or .750? This is stopping me from making my purchase. Same goes for 458 socom.. I will purchase one or the other as soon as I know which gas block is superior
They make a decent upper, mine is as accurate as I am, however I don't recommend the side charging options, after about 3 magazines they fall apart like a cheap sweater in a wind storm
hey buddy i have to ask why you have the rear sight so far forward on the rail? I always put my rear sight behind any optic i use. The further apart the sights are the more accurate it should be.......no?
Can’t wait to get my 458 back from y’all. I’ve had it for over a year and it’s never been fired.. kept getting stuck and wouldn’t ever fully close. Sent it back about a week ago, hope to get it back soon.
I got a side charging 16" on a PSA lower. I use a 30 round lancer magazine with a tromix single stack follower and run the absolute dog fuck out of mine. I've got about a dozen magazines through mine so far and have yet to have a malfunction.
Love my 450👍👍,was a toss up for me between 450 and 458..went with 450 due to ammo availability ...450 is easier and cheaper to find ,in my location..put it with a fostec echo 2...and it's like a jackhammer in your hands...lol
I need a 6mm ARC BCA upper! I have a 458socom, and two 5.56. All side chargers. The 458 has taken a 160pound black bear so far. I want a 6mm ARC in a side charger. Do it!
As far as I know we haven't changed the design. Sorry to hear that you had an issue with your firearm; feel free to send an email over to bcatech@bearcreekarsenal.com and they can help you out or get you a replacement
Bear Creek Arsenal just needed broke in a little. Took mine to a retired staff sergeant (acting supply for 27 years and company armorer) just lube it and shoot it. Snapped right out of it.
@@Bear_Creek_Arsenal serious every gun forum that talks about the 450 from BCA all talk about it being under gassed. How many had been returned for this?
I have had hit or miss on this problem with 450 barrels. Not just from Bear creek. Seems to be no textbook consensus on the actual diameter. New caliber bugs.@@tboymath
Hi BCA guys. Love your barrels. I have three, and they’re all tack drivers. I just need three stainless A2 bird cages for the bling factor. But they’ll have to wait until next payday.
@@jesteravrgjoe2888 We have a few 10.5" and 14.5" barrels in 5.56, but there out of stock at the moment. Hopefully we'll get some back in the next few months
Is is too late to return my complete upper that I purchased? Bought a side charger in May 2020. Had it returned because of feed ramp issues. Got the replacement in June 2020, a rear charging one this time. It shoots but I can't get it to cycle past the 4th round. I'd be lucky to get it past the 5th round. My lower is a multi cal Aero. PSA 2-stage trigger. Standard LPK. Nothing fancy. Still can't get it to fire reliably.
Hmm send an email over to bcatech@bearcreekarsenal.com and describe your issue. If they can't find a solution and you want to return your product email CustomerService@BearCreekArsenal.com and they should be able to help you.
It maybe your gas block. Check gas block and check the bolts see if they are backing out i have and fixing to send it back because of the gas block but I do love that rifle all they need to do is drop some good pins inside the gas block
I have a side charging BCA 12.7x42 (but it’s really .50 Beowulf) and I love it. BCA never let me down and living in the area it’s like 24 hour shipping on my orders.
i got the same one as well. All tho mine had major feeding issues and mangled the brass. sent it back. just got it back last night, function tested it ( extremely disappointing ) the feeding issue seems worse and chews up my brass even worse than before. i dont think the tech even function tested it before it left there facility, ya its that bad. all i want is a functioning upper that dosent mangle my brass. BCA how can we make this happen ??!!
Yes indeed.. I've been waiting as well, I've missed the last go around I got too the restocked email notification bout an hour late an they was sold out...
I'm new to the AR market do i need a special lower to shoot 458 or can i modify my 556 lower? If so what type of lower do I need or what do I need to do to my existing lower to fire 458 or 450
Watch again @ 2:57 in the vid. Spent shells seem to fly out right over his arm. I don't know what grain projectile he is shooting, but I do think the 450 Big Bush case deflection pathway does vary considerably, compared to 5.56/223, as well as different inter-caliber loads. I.E. high-velocity vs. subsonic, while both 450 Big Bush, generate a different inertia imposed on the bolt and carrier.
I own two of your uppers and have been wanting to buy one of your .458 uppers for awhile but the pretty significant increase in price has turned me off
@@Bloodreign137 Management held off on price increases as long as they could but we are having some raw material issues due to the high demand and scarcity of it, our prices were increased beginning to mid June and we have held them as low as possible.
www.bigboremag.com sells conversion kits for Gi Mil-spec mags and Polymer Hex mags, They work great too ! and you probably already have the magazines so for under $10.00 you have a big bore mag that works!
Due to much higher material costs, scarcity, and additional expenses we've had to raise prices accordingly. We are still one of the best value options on the market and hope to bring them down as soon as we can
I find the . 450 Bushmaster and the . 350 Legend interesting rounds for whitetai.l In the Missouri Ozarks unless you field hunt you never get a shot further than 50 to 100 yards in the woods. Between the two I mentioned and the socom which would you all prefer for that kind of hunting?
Socom is devastating. Seen it take down a large bear...step step drop. Bushmaster might leave you more of a distinguishable kill to bring home. .458 Socom was invented by the military for 1 shot stops. 10 rounds fit perfect in an 30 round ar15 mag. Kicks like a 12g.
All of these would be great options for what you're describing. If I had to choose though, I would recommend the .350 Legend because it has slightly less recoil and is a little more accurate.
James Phelps 450 bushmaster and 350 ammo are pretty well available at most gun stores (in my area) I have killed deer with my .450 bushmaster and it made a absolute mess of the 2 deer I have killed.
458 Socom uses any plated or jacketed bullet that can be fired from a 45/70 government from 250-400 grain supersonic and any bullet from 400-600 subsonic. If you hand load and are interested in subsonic or suppressed 458 is your choice. If over the counter availability and hunting in “straight wall states” 450 Bushmaster or 350 Legend is your ticket.
Already got 2 of the .450s. With the price of ammo and the minimal power difference. Theres no logical reason to go with the 458. He'll the price difference in 5.56 to .450 why take the 5.56 anyway?
Yeah it is a harder pill to swallow, paying 70cpr for 5.56 when 450 is $2 a round. I ended up reloading for 450 with a BCA upper and everything is going fine... Except the cost of components! Over a dollar per bullet, powder is astronomically expensive, and primers are no where.
Waiting on my 7.62x39 upper to arrive. Cant wait to put the ATN 4K on and shoot some piggies, very certain I will be ordering a 450 Bushmaster upper side charger also.😃😃😃
How about comparing ft lbs of energy between the two and some accuracy comparisons. This video is like thousands of others like it. It shows some guy babbling on about the un important info and skips the important things like bullet expansion and penetration. And the desert is supposed to be watching someone blowing ammo down range.
WTF happened to your prices in the last 4 weeks? I paid the exact same for a complete upper 6/30 , than you are charging for a "half upper". 259.99 for a complete 16" 5.56 upper, now a half upper is the same price. Now it's $150 more for the BCG and charging handle. I love your stuff, but wow.
I'm going to guess it's just supply vs demand. Lately everyone is sold out of everything. That said, I do know guys who prefer one specific BCG over another, so why spend the money on a part you won't be using?
You know at first I didn't like it AT ALL. The only reason I got a side charging upper was that at the time it was cheaper than the rear charging upper by miles. Now that I got a chance to use it, I love it. Especially with mine being for a hunting application, it makes perfect sense to me. If you have a malfunction, you don't have to take your eyes off of the optic in order to cycle the bolt like you would a rear charging. You can keep your eyes on target through the optic and still manipulate the bolt.
