.45 vs .40 heavy FMJ. this is part 1 of 2 videos. in part 2 I'll be testing light weight JHP. #40 #.40S&W #.40S&W vs #40 cal #40 vs 45 #1911 #s&w #smith & wesson #fmj #pistol #handgun
The thing about 40 is with almost all ammunition, manufactures load them light. Like extremely light. With handloading 40, you can get faster velocities at sammi pressures. I think 40 is a great round, but majority of store brought ammunition don’t utilize its full potential.
I'm about to start loading up my own .40 soon I mes to get a conversion kit for my dillon press and redding pro dies. Those are my favorite dies, I have them in 9mm and possibly a bullet mold. I'm kinda waiting till i accumulate enough .40 brass to load a few hundred rounds without having to actually buy brass 🙄
That is on purpose. Thats the reason 40 was made. It copies the 10mm fbi light load in a 9mm grip frame. It was never meant to be as powerful as it could be. If it was they would have just used the 41 ae or kept using more power 10
@@tbjtbj4786 the 40 then and the 40 now are completely different. The ones now are weaker. Instead of making dedicated 40 firearms, they were converting 9mm firearms to 40. This greatly affected the life of firearms. That is why ammunition companies load 40’s so light. Most of them even use Glocks for their testing which is also why I don’t recommend Glocks for anything larger than a 9.
Well I just got my .40 and am not currently loading for it. I've been loading .45acp for years and have a bunch of it on hand. I buy most of the ammo I use in my videos from optics planet so I went on there and looked at Winchester white box and Remington green and white box and saw the listed velocity as 835 fps my loads averaged 795 fps and the difference between was 40 fps. I crunched those numbers in the ballistics calculator and the numbers were TAYLOR K.O. 0.59 F.P.E. 0.81 MOMENTUM 1.31 POWER FACTOR 9.20 I think it's a good comparison... on a separate note my .45 ammo is tuned to my pistol because it's what I was using for competition.
