Your 1-2 shifting problem most likely has nothing to do with the overdrive snap ring.The pieces of the snap ring are heavy enough that they settle to the bottom of the pan,in most cases. Your problem is in the valve body or front band.

if it won't slide all the way on then the splines are not lined up on the OD Inner Sprag race & the OD Planet. the only way to realign them is to recompress, align then uncompress try to handle it easy or better yet leave shaft in it until ready to install

Hello- anytime the spring is expanded and recompressed the shaft tool is needed : the shaft keeps the alignment between the Overdrive Inner Sprag Race and the Overdrive planetary, this will then allow the OD Unit when reassembled to slide all the way onto the transmission. reverse is not inside the overdrive section, maybe your low/reverse servo ...... that sounds like a great price for an OD though i be suspect as the rebuild parts alone are half that cost +

Tim Vincent no, the 48re is an a518 or TF727 derivative the 44re is an a500 or TF904 derivative the 727 is larger than a 904 so parts and clutches are mostly non transferable

@@Quadman808 my a500 is in an 89 dodge dakota shelby truck.

@@randy1ization tv cable is on the drivers side middle of the main trans, just above pan rail other than a bugger to access its a straight forward process; you want the cable adjusted tougt but with zero pressure applied, so just adjust it until slack is perfectly out ** If anything just a hint of pressure but less than your pinky can apply

its like that with almost All the entire line up of Automatic Trans & Transaxles the main reason is our industry calls it one type, but the Oem's & Dealers call them something completely different. Many parts interchange on the older applications like the "RE"'s but Boy is it insane the new 2010+ stuff they're changing trans type every 1-2 yrs and parts don't interchange

@@Quadman808 thanks im going to attempt an A500 soon, and just trying to sort out some confusion,, I had a bent driveshaft take out the big bearing in the OD section years ago, them the latest problem is my park pin either broke or hopped out of position, and I dont have 3rd and 4th gear. may be tv cables out of adjustment, but trans has 156000 on it so im going to attempt a rebuild.. I have an H press and will make A tool to compress the spring.. is the od clutch alignment tool available in a one time use plastic version? also ive heard TV cables not adjusted right can destroy transmission, is this something a pro should do or is it straightforward?
