Part 2 of 3. Rebuilding my Foxbody Mustang Motor with a Summit Racing 302 Ford Rebuild kit which runs about $200. In this video you can see how the crankshaft gets polished, how to de-glaze / hone your block and how to install piston rings.

I know this is an old post but I think you should check the ring gaps in the bore before installing on the pistons

If you want to avoid dust and debris in the block while polishing, bolt it to a flywheel and stand it on a workbench. Also, sand in the direction the bearings will turn, because when you stop the polish, it leaves an edge.

Hi, what products did you use for cleaning the block and heads? Can i use degraser soap and water and then dry it with air compressor?

I used the varsol tank and also lots of brake clean

just remember the bare metal will start to flash rust, so coat it with something like WD40 so paint the surfaces you wanted to paint (heating them with a torch can wick condensation out of the pores of the cast iron, helping the paint grab and seal) and WD40 (which stands for water dispersal attempt #40) the surfaces you want bare. just remember when you RTV surfaces meant for gaskets, that you clean 'em off for best adhesion.

I’m rebuilding an 89 302 engine. when I got the block back from the machine shop it has those exact same ridges towards the top in a couple of the cylinders as well. Is this something I should be concerned about? Great series btw!!! Very helpful!!! ✅💯

you probably figured it out by now, but as long as the machine shop used a torque plate, and the ridge doesn't hang up a piston ring during installation, its ok enough for a budget build. i like to use a fish scale to pull the pistons into the block rather than hammer them in--so if one piston needs more "pull" to get into the cylinder, i know it's hanging a ring and there's a problem to solve pronto.
