Great stuff there coach! I'm a kickboxing coach since many years and I tell my (beginner) students to pull up their rear hand an inch or so as they throw the jab, to combat the tendency to drop the rear hand. So you're touching the orbital bone with your knuckles at first (with rear hand) and then when the jab lands your touching the eyebrow. Your thoughts on this?
Hey Tony. Thanks for the video. I know you have a video on why you might not be landing shots, but being new I was thinking about my training the other day and had a thought. When training on the bag it’s easy to always hit but when you are sparring or working with a partner it’s almost - and probably is - as though you are not as close to the other person as you are to the bag so it feels really alien. I wondered if you could maybe do a video on this and the differences and how to work on a bag vs with someone and land shots etc. thanks
As always great video, any chance you can do a video on how to be relaxed in training and in the ring instead of being uptight. Something I really struggle with!
I agree....MrCambry My Golden Gloves champ friend said this was the best he had ever seen. He has got that rare gift of having done and being able to explain and teach it. The epitome of the perfect coach
I was guilty of both telegraphing and flicking when I started 2 decades ago. Took me a good 3 months of drilling just jabbing for me to unlearn the habit. At 41 now, I can jab a hole in a hanging piece of paper. I actual emulate Jack Dempsey's jab, which he throw both his jab and his cross with his elbows down rather then outwars.
Tony: If you're throwing a jab at me and it's having no effect... Me: Uh-oh Tony...I'll walk straight through your jab and beat you up with both my hands Me: Dead
me: if i punched you your brains would be on the pavement. so dont be dumb like Joey was. those pictures of flies on the hole in his head were priceless an everyone wanted it
Flicker jab is more advanced. You have no business throwin it if u cant manage a prpper jab first. Also it might also be a flicker unintentionally bc the person is bein lazy or just throwin it just to throw it.
@@brutuslutus6636 yea fair point but I'm pointing that it can still be used. And there's nothing "fundamentally wrong" different move for different purpose.
Tony, what do you think about the risk of hyper extension when snapping the jab with the arm fully extended ? Aren't we suppose to keep it a little bent so injuries won't build up over time
Full extension means 90 to 95% instead of being face to face to your opponent/heavy bag throwing with 50% extension. 100% is never be good due to hyper extension in case of missing the target like you said!
I once did that some years ago on a boxingbag, not a great experience. Yeah bent the jab just a little, but still try to get maximum reach like Tony said
good tips Tony, I remember learning the jab and I'm thinking "eh how easy this is, its just a straight punch" man was I wrong, I mean yeah it is a straight punch but there's so much to it that you don't see. I think my biggest problem was telegraphing (all my punches) and I spent hours and hours practicing by myself to correct that and I'm happy to say even though I'm not active any more, I'm much better at not telegraphing any of my punches, look at it this way, your jab can never be "too good". That Mayweather jab is something but my all time favorite was Sonny Liston, man what a jab! Have a good day
when i started out i would always record myself practicing just to see my mistakes, i would basically be my own coach telling myself what i need to change and work on, i think that helped me a lot with my form overall
❤️ Tony I love the encouragement you give Even though I am whacked after a busy day From a fifty two year old Dad Who has a front on RU-vid as an artist I love your passion for your sport; and was amazed at the team behind you in your corner Thank you Tony, P.S. Tyson,Peter,John,Shane,Tommy,Johnny N,Kuggan,Frank, and Our Enry , footage from the past is my secret interest Especially your corner 💯% ✔️✔️✔️ Too
Tony when you were demonstrating the "Floyd" jab, you were pulling your lead hand back quite a bit before each jab. Essentially nullifying the pros of that style of jab (speed) and also telegraphing it.
Thank you coach. another great useful video, one of my favorite weapons to use THE JAB. Do you have any videos on how to do some efective work at the heavybag?
Hi mate what do you exactly by effective work at the heavy bag? I actually got many videos with the heavy bag, you can search "Tony Jeffries Heavy Bag"
yeah, find an old soft bag that's more like punching clear air because this energy-sapping ritual will set you up for what you're more likely to be doing...true!
I'm so glad to see that I've already fixed this stuff! I realized my mistakes months ago after watching a video of me I posted... it wast too bad, but I've made ALOT of progress and improvements since then. Thanks bro! Good helpful video!
Good video! Thanks for all the amazing content got my first fight November 6th been training hard and improved my cardio but missed last 2 weeks because of tonsillitis very nervous but also excited 💪🏻
I’m a beginner but loving these videos. Definitely improved my jab just from shadow boxing and hitting the bag! I like the Mayweather style jab and feel like I can throw it pretty well. Not sure how disciplined I would be at keeping my hands up over a long period of time though! Will keep training 🥊
I've boxed for a long time, but now I'm without a coach, training on my own. I love your channel and the passion and drive you put into your content. Its helped keep me sharp, and your character and enthusiasm motivate me to keep training. Love you man, keep up the great work.
Great video! First time seeing one of your vids. Definitely a great way to improve your jabs. Do you have one on the flicker jab like Thomas Hearns used to use?
omg thank you so much you changed my life ur my biggest inspiration thank you before this video I was getting beat up by boys at my school now I am getting beat up by women too.
To find the range! Very nice Tony! I found that if a jab is practiced and used correctly it is so effective! You can really stun an opponent and keep him off balance with some quick stiff Jabs!
Cool. Thanks Tony. I have been lacking on reviewing videos from work then training for boxing. I have better technique but your tips help a lot in reviewing as I like perfecting what I already know to embed it 100% in my head to where it is like second nature
Great tutorial, amll so true !! Thanks for sharing this Tony, 🤩🖐😁🖐🧡 One note , also i think not telegraphed jabs can be beautiful when its a full rapid extension where the elbow doesn't raise so much on the side, and the step really minute and supple like lifting a pancake from a small frying pans ,
Do you have a video for sparring? I've never sparred with anyone before. Been in plenty of fights though. So I don't know how hard you are supposed to go in a sparring match
Hey Tony. You're absolutely awesome. I have semi retired after 4 decades of body building and this boxing stuff is incredibly awesome. Your a fantastic teacher. Thank you Tony.😆😆😆😆
Very good man. Ya know some coach,s say there is only one jab others say there different types. I know a little karate and the backfist has some similarities to the jab. I broke my elbow joint as a kid so I used my right arm more in the front. I try to practice both sides now. I use my arms broke joint to throw flucker jabs. Not a flicking jab. A flicker jab. Muhammid Ali was famous for it almost looks like a back fist. Its one of the fastest jabs out there and it can powerful if you do your arm just right like a whip. Also there is something from the martial art wing chun behind the mechanics of the 1 inch punch. That Bruce lee later used in his JKD that has similarities to Floyd mayweathers fast jab of punching from where your arms at when its fuether from your face. Red chucks does a good explnation in one of his vids.
I disagree with one thing. A flick jab can still hurt if you land it and even if it didn't you don't want to land stiff hard jabs all the time anyway because you want that right hand to be in range to land a 1-2. Sometimes the head flies back too far out of range when you land a powerful jab so sometimes you just want to use the jab as a blinder.
Great video, thank you ! I am practicing kickboxing from nearly 4 years. please give me an idea how to combine the kickboxing with gym, OR SOMETHING WHAT WE NEED ,. just to do kickboxing classes and gym , as I am doing or is a special workout extra class to fill all what we need to be a good kickboxer with speed, power , etc . THANK YOU VERY MUCH !
LOVE THIS CHANELL. If the jab is the first in importance, does that imply a hierarchy of punches that follow the jab in importance? As in if the jab is number one, whats 2, 3 4 etc?
Can Tony use his legs to legitimately strike? Telegraph? Watching 4 strike points instead of 2?? Range on legs and power when trained to use ... Welcome to the jungle It gets worse here every day. Boxing has value... but you better download upgrades to your game plan... you'll be snoring or screaming with a popped joint Not now/but right now!
If I have the lead hand halfway for speed, would I be sacrificing power? I mean it would have less distance to build momentum. Would you say it's worth it for the speed?
I need some help. Iv'e just started boxning again and my eyes get watery when i get punched on the nose but the punches DO NOT HURT. Im confused and annoyed about this
Ya know. You keep suggesting things to buy, like the jump rope. It better have your signature on there for tha..... oh it does? Anyways. I like your passion. I randomly watch channels for no reason and I found yours. I'm pretty sure I'm older than you, but your passion about this makes me want to pick up boxing, at a late stage in life. 😂 You make good content.
Great video man you actually touch on the purpose and not just the technique reminds of Marvin Cook, both of you are natural teachers. People forget to sharpen their sword and bring their shield then wonder why their head is getting chopped off. I think of my lead side as the shield and my rear side as the sword, as for my stance I think of myself as holding a rifle as I aim down its sights at my opponent. Using your jab to set up shots is the same as shield bashing a sword away, all while keeping your aim steady. Dropping your hand after a jab is like dropping your rifle or, you can’t shoot back while you aren’t aiming. Can’t defend yourself or take any damage with no shield, and a weak set of armor (soft bodies). The only time you should drop your shield/rifle/sword is if you’re running away, otherwise be ready for what they have to throw your way.
WE BROKE GODS LAW. 2000 YEARS AGO, GOD PROVIDED A SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST WHO SUFFERED AND TOOK OUR PUNISHMENT ON THE CROSS. THE BIBLE SAYS IF WE DECLARE WITH OUT MOUTH JESUS IS LORD AND BELIEVE IN OUR HEART GOD RAISED HIM FROM THE DEAD YOU SHALL BE SAVED. Romans 10-9. GOD WILL FORGIVE YOUR SINS AND GRANT YOU EVERLASTING LIFE ALL BECAUSE OF WHAT JESUS DID ON THE cross
I watched that last half punch where you had the lead hand out to mimick Floyd Mayweather, you pulled that hand back good sir. I'm only teasing, thank you for you content, it has elevated my masculinity quite considerably.
Flicks don't work? They worked for me. I broke a guys orbital bone once flicking my jab. You gotta do it fast and carefully. It great for keeping your opponent from staying too close and it sets up bigger punches.
Don’t attack low you wanna do it as much damage as possible if you hit them in the face they will get scared so they will protect their face more living room to kick them in the legs, don’t ever and I mean ever leave your face out to be hit, Source: 4 to 5 years of mixed martial arts including jujitsu grappling and boxing
I grew up fighting... not boxing. I love combat sports. I watch you from time to time. My son just got a punching bag on a pole. This will be the second video I send him. I tried showing him what I know and told him to make sure his jab was solid before we get more complicated. He asked why. I said you're going to be getting onto street fights and most times they will be throwing nothing but haymakers and a straight jab is going to catch them off guard because they expect you to throw haymakers too
lol I watched his other videos so I know he was talking about pulling the jab back but I still didn't see 🙈 it both times. 😂. So I was thinking to myself what was the mistake. Haha.
Takes a lot of practice to get those half cocked Mayweather jabs quite right. Even Tony here can’t help but telegraph them just a bit when demonstrating them.
How about how Conor McGregor fights…His jab hand sometimes try’s to catch or push away any punches. His hands are out more if that makes sense. What are your thoughts that?
Holmes, Hearns, Ali, and Fury, among others, often flicked/flick their jabs and yet they had great success with it. Make no mistake, that does not invalidate any of what Mr. Jeffries is sharing in this video. I'm just saying that (sometimes) there are exceptions to these rules. If you're as fast as Roy Jones Jr., or Naseem Hamed in their primes, then you can probably get away with all sorts of 'wrong' things. But once you get a little bit older, or find yourself fighting with an injury or two, and you slow down just a millisecond or two, those styles will no longer be an asset but a liability.
Absolutely, but you got to learn the basic rules before you can break them. If you don't understand why a basic jab works, you dont understand what the variations are good for and when ,or when not ,to use them. Always fully understand what youre trying to break before you break it, or ya just end up with a mess.

money devalue over time, so it's a stupid idea to keep money in banks... investment is the best way forward as it grows over time and country economy activity increase
Having professional mentor you is also very important when it comes to trading, without proper mentorship, one tends to opt out of the market early enough. I do my investments on Ben Harris platform.
