When my youngest son was 13 .Our dryer quit working. I didn't have the money for a repairman or to buy a new one. So my son watched a few repair video, then we went to Lowe's and bought a part and a tool. $15.00 and 4 hours later he had my dryer working. That was 5 years ago and the dryer is still going. I love telling people this story, because I am so proud of my son.

i am watching you from Russia. Every video is like going back to good old days, when people were more genuine, kind, helping and understanding each other, less plastic and fake money (credit cards). I am 40 and know exactly how to live on minimum money or no money at all for long period of time, living of homesteading, fixing broken things and making new myself. I have no worries about money nowadays, but I have confidence in my abilities that I can get thru anything and I mean it. Good job for you two.

I'm a single mom, And when my children was smaller I made the food on Sunday and froze in single per person. When they came home from school the grab a package and when I got home they were happy and not cranky 😊

Ok, time to chime in. I raised my kids as a single parent after my Eddy passed away. The last few years on disability from a genetic condition I have no control over. . One day a few years ago something in me snapped and I knew to the depths of my soul there had to be a better way. It was like electricity going through me and I knew from that moment my life would be different. That I could choose for it to be different. Yes, I am single. I like it that way, I don't need someone to save me. Instead of being a burden on the food bank and other charitable organizations I donate to them. When Tawra said don't let being a single parent be a excuse I think what she was trying to say is don't EVER accept less because YOU are worth it. You CAN do this and it is absolutely possible. My journey began on a coupon site and like many on coupon sites it completely expanded from there. You get to choose where your better life begins too. When you get there I can't wait to hear your story.

My husband and I do Dave Ramsey, and we have been debt free for 6 years and are a single income home. His car is paid off (9 years early), and my car we paid for cash. The car dealership (previously owned) had never seen someone pay $6000 cash before. It was so satisfying. lol. Also we both wear clothes forever, and only buy "new" clothes (from the thrift store) out of necessity. We are Christians too, and live in CO (based on Buckley AFB) and I absolutely LOVE your channel. I'm getting all sorts of tips! Give that sweet hubby a hug, he looks like a keeper. 😉

LOVE this! I'm a stay at home homeschooling mom of 5 under 11. I was just telling my mom how I know I've saved more for my family than I could have made at any job. Agree with you 100%! I just need to work on eating out less (even though we have cut back a lot)

I live in a rental apartment because I have fibromyalgia and are working full time. I just crashes when I get home, and a house needs more maintenance than I can coup with. It's a blessing to be able to call the maintenance guys when things aren't working 😃

When my kids were young, my husband and I worked different shifts so the kids could stay out of daycare. Later I switched to part time and then eventually home full time. In all the scenarios, part time was our best option. I still got insurance for our family and no daycare expenses. This ended up saving us so much $. We did all the math like you presented here. Everyone needs to consider all options for their family. Nowadays, my husband is actually home with the kids and I am at work full time. This works now for our family. Who knows what the future will hold. Thanks for sharing this!!
@m1975cl
@m1975cl 7 лет назад
I do get what your saying, I was in a position where it didn't make sense to go back to work after my kids were born and frankly I didn't want too! But we needed to do more than "save money" or not "spend money" because we didn't have enough money coming into the house to cover the very basic costs of living like rent, and food. So to bring more money into the house I had to do tag team parenting with my husband, I worked nights while he worked days, so we could afford medicine, student loans and clothing for our 2 children. We didn't have cell phones or anything. So there is the situation of needing to bring cash into the house. I took the bus to work at night, and my husband walked to work during the day, he took his lunch and we didn't have jobs where we needed to wear nice clothes. So there is this third option of tag team parenting that a lot of people are doing, it's a popular choice for avoiding the high cost of childcare and always having a parent home to cook dinner.

You and your husband packed a lot of wisdom into this video. My husband and I are about 20 years your senior, and our kids are grown. I quit my job in April and had a serious traumatic injury in June. My husband and I are doing good on just his income although I do have a pension from my civil service job, and he has a pension from Boeing. We gave really slowed down on luxuries, like espresso, dining out, etc. Thank you for your great advice! A happy subscriber.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. My husband recently lost his job and it’s been an eye opening experience. In fact, it was pretty terrifying...but you have helped me rethink how I spend money. And now I realize how I didn’t respect they money we had. On the upside, learning how to make my own laundry soap, meal planning and giving up paper towels has been a learning experience and oddly exciting! Thank you for your brutal honesty. Love you both!

I get that it takes a long time to sort through clothes at my local thrift stores....but geeezzz.....even though we don't often find the plus or big and tall sizes he and i need, the girls are never a problem to dress there and for next to nothing!....the winter coat swap means they get to pick out new beautiful winter coats every fall....sometimes, LEATHER coats for free! always able to find the very expensive sneakers for like 3 bucks.....pajamas....skirt suits, everything but underwear which i buy new every fall....for 20-25 bucks, TOTAL, everyone gets new undies thanks to the wal-mart summer mark downs. i buy make up and colognes once a year in january at the wal-mart after christmas sale.....for around 15 bucks, i get enough to last all year.

I am selling my house for a couple of reasons and moving to a different state. I am planning to leave all the furniture behind. My Kitchenaid mixer, my crochet hooks, my sheets and towels, as well as clothes are about all I plan to take. I totally agree about "hauling it all over the place".

I completely agree with you about the cost of mom working outside of the home. However, for those of us who have older kids (no day care), and don't buy anything we don't need (my coffee is made from home, etc.), still cook at home, still grocery shop, don't go out to eat eat, etc, the cost of work is the car (which I know is huge) and clothes (I buy all thrift store and spend about $150 a year on clothes), we still come out ahead. I did stay home though when the kids were little and even worked in the school district when youngest started school so I still was home when they were home. They were worth it, and day care would not have been worth the cost! We have considered moving closer to my job I have now to get rid of my vehicle, but we have not done that yet/ kids don't want to move too far from church, but yes, the car is our biggest expense with my working. Mind you, I do have a good paying job (about $45 an hour part time), so I think we do come out ahead, but you have to be really mindful to not change your lifestyle when working outside of the home.

my husband and i have 2 kids, another on the way. weve been pretty good about maybe eating take out 1-2 times a week, but ive decided to cut that out. he also brings leftovers for work. we both own our cars, 2002 and a 2005. we both dont drink coffee and im trying to get him to cut down on his energy drinks he has one a day, but they are so expensive. i also cloth diaper and make all my cleaning products. we both have school debt. i stock up on toiletries doing coupon deals which i can find online before u spend the money on the sunday paper. we have been renting for 4 yrs and are in the process of closing on our first home! i plan on buying any furniture we need used and painting it if i need to. it is possible, it takes some sacrifices, and im still looking for ways to still cut back and save. every penny counts!

Hello Tawra & Michael 👋 I agree 100% with all your tips! My fiance has one pair of work pants, he works in an office & once in a while he will work in the warehouse, but he never gets his pants dirty so I only have to wash them twice a week. Washing clothing every day will wear them out, so just throw them in the dryer to freshen them up the next day & their good to wear again 😉 The one thing we are trying to work on now is eating out! It's CRAZY how much it adds up! Also, keeping an eye out on the DI (Desert Industries, Utah thrift store) & Good Will.I have the worst luck in finding pants, but I will not give up because I will NOT pay $75 for a brand new pair of pants! Anyways, great video, as always! I love all your tips! Take care & I'm glad to hear you're feeling better 🌸

In H.S. my son begged for Jinco Jeans that almost all the guys were wearing. I got him one pair and after wearing them a week he realized he hated them. I explained how he could have gotten way more clothes at the thrift shop and looked way cooler. He discovered Vintage and realized he loved 50's style. Soon others at school were imitating his style!!

Would you be willing to share how you are planning for retirement, pay for your health insurance, and build your savings? Our children are grown and on their own. My husband is a self-employed musician, and I essentially only work to help pay into our retirement plan, buy our health insurance, and build up our savings. We track our expenses very carefully, we don't eat out, we pay cash for our cars, we buy used whenever we can, and we DIY everything (including our tiny house!) :)

Well some bloggers put the word out they need help. There are some virtual assistant companies that you could apply for but I'm not sure which ones. You would just have to research it.

I live in California and we both have to work for our mortgage. I have been really watching my money and my mom helps with kids for free. So when I say we both have to I mean or we would lose the house. I get what your saying but I don't believe everyone could live on one income. I really want to try to pay it off sooner. Also I have a daughter with special needs and my job is the one that has good health insurance not my husbands.

What if you move from California? If you sold your house you could probably afford a good home that cost a lot less in another state.

Could you look through the numbers to see if your husband could stay home? Though I suppose if your parents can help, that is truly wonderful.

You can wear jeans more than one time as long as they aren't really dirty. it's better not to wash them so often.
