Do brain cells regenerate? Yes!
It’s the rate your brain cells regenerate that determines how your cognitive function works as you age. Today, we’re going to talk about how to increase the regeneration of your brain cells.
You can do many different things to support cognitive function and increase the size of your brain. You don’t need to do all of these things, but pick what you find is the most realistic for you and let me know what you choose in the comments.
The best ways to improve brain health:
1. Exercise
2. Do intermittent fasting and periodic prolonged fasting
3. Do cold therapy
4. Consume cod liver oil
5. Get on a low-carb diet (Healthy Keto®)
6. Do heat therapy
7. Consume vitamin B1
8. Consume probiotics
9. Get plenty of sunlight (infrared light and vitamin D)
10. Consume plant-based phytonutrients
11. Consume foods high in choline
12. Consume grass-fed animal products
13. Get sufficient sleep
14. Drink coffee
15. Consume zinc

I am going to give a simplified version of how the brain works. Neurons and nerves send electrical signals to each other. This requires electrical conductive minerals. What happens when the brain gets full of toxic metals that short circuit these neurons? Aluminum being one of the worst offenders. Think Alzheimer's and Autism. Imagine if you replaced all of the copper wiring inside your house with aluminum wiring. It would not conduct electricity. Imagine if your body was full of aluminum (and other toxic metals)? Your brain and nerves become impaired. This is normal today. This causes nerve damage, impaired cognitive function, etc. What is the solution? Foods high in raw minerals AND raw fats and proteins. Raw fish, raw organs, raw milk products, raw meat, raw eggs, raw butter, you get the picture. These regenerate all cells in your body, not just your brain. Also lets talk about copper. That is the material of choice for electrical wiring. The food highest in copper is liver. The name Liver comes from Live, Alive. You literally feel alive when you eat liver. Why is that? Could it be that it increases electrical conductivity in the body? Since eating copious amounts of raw liver (and other foods) over a few years, my lazy eye is gone and is now straight. What causes a lazy eye? Nerve damage. God's design of creation is perfect and can always be regenerated in time.

One thing that caught my attention in this video was at the 2:00 minute mark. Dr. Berg says not to remind others of their lapses in memory. It actually does harm. I've noticed Dr. Berg's approach in his videos is one of encouragement and things we can do to improve. He doesn't go negative like so many others do. He does not try and scare you.

I spent years with chronic stomach issues and years of taking new pills and medications without a diagnosis, I started every morning with extreme stomach pain and or nausea I rarely went to school on time of not at all. After watching you I started fasting and letting my stomach heal and little did I know how that would change everything, first my energy levels increased I was willing to start running again. It only took a couple months to fix what doctors couldn't in years. This has vastly expanded my capacity of living happily and I am now on a journey for the last 2 years to prove that we can restore our body's to levels above our previous feats, I have healed my lungs from years of smoking and can now run over 10 miles and have found motivation and discipline to create a business as a side effect of all this, you have truly played a part in my journey to the top and I want to thank you Dr.Berg. I have to just say this straight up: Dr. Berg you are an absolute TREASURE to the community of health and medicine! I mean that very sincerely because I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and it absolutely blows my mind how you have such extensive knowledge of literally anything I’m thinking about it or seeking for my family for better health. Your knowledge of holistic approaches to medicine, fasting, remedies, etc., is very crucial and impactful in the lives of MILLIONS of people across the globe! Brutally honest truth: you know WAAAAAYYYY more than many of these MDs (not trying to bash medical professionals but I’m just saying it like it is). Have to say, Doc, that I'm glad I found you. Five years ago cancer claimed my wife ( liver cancer, ironically). I descended into grief, alcohol, lockdowns ( quite severe here in Melbourne, Aus ), and "life" was pretty poor. 170 days ago, after being a VERY heavy drinker I spontaneously gave up alcohol. Surprisingly, at 69 yo, my liver is in relatively good shape, but I figure it needs all the help it can get. Your vids have inspired me to give it to it. I'm just beginning, and it's a struggle to break bad habits, but if I can break the 5 bottles of vodka ( plus a few other things like strong beer ) a week habit then the rest can't be impossible, right? Thank you.

Life is too beatiful to be spent on drinking. I am sure your wife would not want you to be in such a grief. When I die I want people to be thankful for the time they HAD with me and not be in grief for the time we cannot have in the future. I hope you get your things sorted out. It's your choice.

Finding the right motivation is the key, focus on positive aspects of your life and brush off the rest. Avoiding moments linked to past bad habits also makes it easier, for example, if watching sports is linked mentally to smoking or drinking, change it for a long walk in the mountains or something else that satisfies you positively (while you listen to the game or just look at the results or a resume of the best moments the next day) 😉 You can't change the past, but you can work on your "now", step by step and day by day; there will be lower moments of course but don't let that get in the way as tomorrow is another fresh new day, block that "bad day" and continue the right way. It's never too late and everything little step helps, I'm sure you can do it 💪🏼 I wish you all the best in your new you journey 🤗

G'day Dr. Eric, great video. Thank you for confirming ALL of my research. I am doing everything on your list and have never felt better at the age of 51. At 23, I had a very severe traumatic head injury. It took me until I was 50 and divorced to realise that no one else would if I didn't look after myself. I have taken most of your advice in the last 6 months and I feel better and more clear than I did at 21. My best move is Turmeric. I hate the way it stains everything. However, it has done the most to improve my physical and mental well-being. Freezing cold showers, OMG, I wake up and have a 2-5 minute cold shower and feel absolutely ready for anything, EVERY SINGLE DAY!

While I still enjoy the food I eat, I don't treat it as recreation. Eating two meals per day - within my 6 hour feeding window - has taught me to be 'intentional' about the fuel I'm feeding my body.

I'd consider upping your exercise and decreasing your salads -- well, leafy greens in particular. If your salad consists mainly of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, etc., then no big deal. If you're eating a ton of kale and spinach, I'd cut those out due to oxalates and other anti-nutrients. Just sharing what I've learned! Keep up the good work. 💪

@@asplmn I'm doing just fine, in the best health of my life. If you do a variety of things to maintain good health, as I do, you don't need as much exercise as you might think. 3x per week is more than enough. Also, veggies (including various greens) are THE staple of a healthy diet, along with healthy fats and grass fed proteins. Green veggies are packed with phytonutrients that fight disease. These qualified nutritional researchers also think it's less than ideal too: "rhubarb, spinach and beet are other common high oxalate-content foods. Vegetarians who consume greater amounts of vegetables will have a higher intake of oxalates, which may reduce calcium availability. This may be an increased risk factor for women, who require greater amounts of calcium in the diet. In humans, diets low in calcium and high in oxalates are not recommended but the occasional consumption of high oxalate foods as part of a nuritious diet does not pose any particular problem." -Bsc, S.N. and (1999), Oxalate content of foods and its effect on humans. I also use a CPAC machine. That has helped me a lot as well. I had a bad case of sleep apnea and I didn't know it until I got tested.

Back in the early 2000s, I read studies where elevated oxygen therapy was used to re-grow brain tissue after traumatic brain injuries. IIRC, treatment was on the order of 30% oxygen (i.e., 50% increase in available oxygen) for 30 to 60 minutes at +1 atmosphere once per week. The results presented were stunning. Increase brain cell regeneration factor by 5x 00:00 Neurons regenerate in the brain, rate determined cognitive function List of things to do to increase brain regeneration, add to your lifestyle ✦ Reminding someone of memory problems can make it worse 01:47 Correcting someone's memory mistakes can cause them to make more mistakes Focusing too much on memory can actually make it worse ✦ Regular aerobic exercise and fasting can enhance brain function. 03:25 Long walks or exercise that increases oxygen intake is best. Intermittent or prolonged fasting for at least 16-18 hours and two meals a day is ideal. ✦ Support your brain with Cold Therapy, Exercise and Omega-3 05:20 Cold therapy stimulates the regeneration of the brain cells while exercising in the cold environment is good for the brain Omega-3, specifically DHA, found in cod liver oil is beneficial for brain growth while oxidized oils like vegetable oils heated with solvents have a negative effect ✦ Low carb diets and ketones can be a better fuel for the brain than glucose 07:11 Eating a high carb diet can lead to glucose hypo metabolism and nerve cell destruction Lowering carb intake can generate ketones which can feed neurons directly ✦ Foods and nutrients that benefit brain health 09:02 Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is beneficial for brain health and thiamine deficiency can lead to degeneration of neurons Probiotics improve gut health, and gut health is connected to brain health ✦ Various foods and the sun can benefit the brain 10:46 Consumption of diverse vegetables, organic foods and food high in choline can support brain health Exposure to infrared rays from the sun and plant-based phytonutrients can also help with brain function ✦ Consuming animal products - grass-fed vs grain-fed and sufficient sleep are important for brain health 12:32 Choose animal products with omega-6 to omega-3 ratios around 1:1 to reduce inflammation Get good quality sleep to support nerve cell regeneration, avoid excessive caffeine intake and consider zinc supplements to support hippocampus function

Hey, I heard on Huberman's channel that you can also mimick that brain growth process that young children go through. If you fast from a bunch of sensory things. Fast from all entertainment, from good foods etc. Pretty much be a monk. You can recreate what happens to young children and teenagers and grow some neurons. I know Im explaining it wrong somehow but it was Huberman's channel.

It makes sense that we as humans, like all other organisms ought to engage with the natural environment which has supported our evolution in the ways which human beings have done for all time basically. if you dont wanna watch it: the speaker discusses how to increase the regeneration of nerve cells in the brain. Regular exercise, particularly aerobic exercise, is the most important thing to enhance brain function and prevent atrophy. Fasting, both intermittent and prolonged, is also a potent stimulator of factors that help grow and repair the brain. Cold therapy, such as taking cold showers or ice baths, is another effective way to stimulate nerve cell regeneration. The speaker also cautions against hyper-focusing on memory problems, as this can make them worse. Finally, the brain makes up only 2% of the body's weight but requires 20% of the body's oxygen and metabolism, making it an energy-intensive organ. Our brain cells can regenerate, and the rate of regeneration determines our cognitive function as we age. There are several ways to increase nerve cell regeneration, including exercise, fasting, and cold therapy. Regular exercise, particularly aerobic exercise, is the most important thing to enhance brain function and prevent brain atrophy. Fasting, both intermittent and periodic prolonged fasting, stimulates factors that help grow and repair the brain. Cold therapy, such as taking an ice bath or cold shower, is a potent stimulator of neurogenesis.

I realized I needed Magnesium when I saw that very dark chocolate and avacado both have high amounts of Magnesium. I love your information, I've been doing intermittent fasting for the last 8 years, it only hot tough during the pandemic which is why I started looking into vitamin D. I'd just returned from Colorado so my vitamin D went away. Everything you present, I can verify with my own experiences I appreciate that Dr. Berg.

A doctor of ours who used natural healing as much as possible (back in the day) recommended taking your walks where there are trees or where there is moving (I think that was the word he used) water. Apparently, both affect the air positively in some way.

I had a huge success with fasting. I struggled badly with memory for a while and felt that my brain was significantly slower than it had been as I was depressed for a couple years. About a month ago I stopped eating for three days and had only a small amount of cream in my coffee and an occasional shot of pickle juice. After this fast, my memory has been much better. I am better at my job and in college. Also, I am a musician and I can read and learn music much easier than before. The best part is my depression has greatly improved, but I only eat two meals a day now and keto. If I eat carbs I get depressed again.

I use infrared everyday and get out in the sun everyday, it is like a drug it does something to the brain, I'm not sure how it does it but it makes me totally relaxed, relieves pain and makes me sleep.
