So I have a new issue. (1982 K10 Stepside, 6.2) There is no power coming off of my relay to the glow plugs. The relay still clicks on and off. I am at a complete loss right now. Thank you for any possible suggestions.
What do the glow plug and crank sensing wires do? I've always had mine with manual push button and normal, 100 amp relay. Seems like the best solution to me, and adds a layer of theft prevention :D
The crank sensing is so the controller knows when to start doing the after glow cycle. The after glow really makes a difference on a cold start. The glow plug sensing wire tells the controller how much voltage, I think, is going to the glow plugs so it will know how long to glow. As in 9.0 volts going will get a longer glow than 10.4 volts. With your manual controller, try hitting it for 2 seconds 5 seconds after engine start on a cold morning. It will really smooth the idle out compared to not doing it. I put a manual button on my Cowdog truck just in case the controller doesn’t work right. Really cold starts I will hold the button down to extend the controller time, I can hear it clicking off while I am still keeping the plugs glowing. Once started, the controller will command 4 after glow periods in the first 30 seconds of running that really help smooth things out and get rid of the smoke.
