Agreed, at least as a vegan himself he has the courage to say "well not everything vegans say is fact and some of it is bullshit" although i'm not sure i agree with the coconut oil thing. I think people should just read more eg if you google if coconut oil is good fo you some harvard doc reckons its high in saturated fat so stick with vegetable oils despite there are also studies vegetable oils can make you blind. There's always facts/myths pros/cons for both sides
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
There are plenty of quality studies showing coconut oil is just as bad. And yes, vegetable oils are also not great, but that's because of the omega 6, rather than saturated fats. Oh and also empty calories.

I am a nutritionist, oil is not nutrient dense. It may be healthier than soda, but it is not much healthier than that and there are way more nutrient dense foods than oil which is 99% made out of fat.

broccoli? doesn't matter how much protein is in it, i heard there's little ot no leucine in plant sourced protein meaning you can't build muscle with it efficiently, so eating meat is more beneficial if you had to compare the two
@GawrGurasBathTubPizza
@GawrGurasBathTubPizza 6 лет назад
We are also omnivores the four sharp teeth in our mouths prove this, and if our ancestors didn't eat meat hippies wouldn't be alive to this day to bitch about how eating animals is murder. Also i agree correlation doesn't equal causation i.e vegans/vegetarians live longer. It's a mixture of hereditary (hence why idiots smoke and can live over 90) and also a healthy life style. Look at body builders who need the meat, and its been proven the bodybuilding life style slows aging and reduces the chance of being sick or if you do you heal faster
@GawrGurasBathTubPizza
@GawrGurasBathTubPizza 6 лет назад
From what i heard you produce more growth hormone which i heard is anti aging and nick named "the fountain of youth" pretty sure these people would be healthier then plain vegans. They're cocky now but when older their fragile bodies will age faster if they try to do more energy intense stuff because you're forcing the energy out. p.s its horrid to force an animal to follow your life style, its selfish, vegan pets? bleh
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
That's another point, yes. But no it's not more beneficial because broccoli can actually fight of a lot of disease, whereas meat causes a lot of disease. Nobody just eats broccoli or just eats meat. By eating a variety of plant based foods you can easily get all the protein you need which has been proven over and over.
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
Also, bodybuilders do not need meat and bodybuilding is not slowing aging, that is nonsense. If anything, sports and bodybuilding faster the aging process because of increasing free radicals and putting more strain on the body. If you drive very fast with your car it breaks down faster than if you ride with it more relaxed. The same is true with your body. Also, not driving with it at all is even worse and the same is true for the body; a sedentary life is also terrible for you.

Oh, btw, sorry for being too negative... but this thing of being vegan gets you deficit on Vitamin B12 (I have that and it's kind of hard), so please-pleaaaaaaaaaaase be mega-careful (no idea if those supplements work...)
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
Supplements work for B12. In fact, the B12 you get from animals is also from B12 supplements as farm animals these days don't get B12 themselves either. And a whole lot of people (not just vegans) are deficient in this vitamin (as well as vitamin D) so would need to be extra careful.

There is also a lot of reasons supporting humans being herbivores: 1. We can develop atherosclerosis by eating saturated fat and cholesterol whereas omnivorus animals cannot. Only herbivores can. 2. Our intestines are very long compared to omnivores and carnivores just like herbivores have. 3. Our stomach acid isn't as low pH as that of omnivores and carnivores. They have pH around 1 with the food in their stomach whereas we have 4-5. 4. Our jaw can move in several directions like that of herbivores whereas omnivores have minimal to no lateral or forward mobility for chewing. 5. Humans have non-existent canines (though even some herbivores such as gorillas and hippos have huge canines) 6. Out tongue is smooth whereas omnivores have a rough tongue with protein reseptors in it. We need to spice meat with plants and salt to make it taste good. 7. Our brain is fueled by glycogen whereas onmivores can use directly protein and fat to fuel their brains. We gotta first convert those into glucose.
@GawrGurasBathTubPizza
@GawrGurasBathTubPizza 6 лет назад
if your ancestors didnt' eat meat your brain wouldn't of evolved to the state where it was now to tell us herbivores are better p.s my food eats your food
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
That is first of all not proven and besides that it's not even the meat, but rather cooking the meat that allowed for bigger brains if anything. Without cooking very few calories would have been eaten.
@johzuke1
@johzuke1 6 лет назад
JeromeFitness What about cooking starch? Many say that was way more important than cooking meat. Our brain just happens to run of glycogen so being able to utilize the starch in roots and such was probably way more important than cooking of meat. There has been an analysis on fossilised human stool from palealithic times and it turns out they ate aproximately 100+ grams of fiber a day. This is only possible if you eat a whole foods plant based diet with very little animal products.
@johzuke1
@johzuke1 6 лет назад
JeromeFitness Saying that it's not proven isn't enough for me. You need to provide evidence supporting your claim. Everything I just said is factual because the calims are based on comparing the anatomy of humans and other animals which we know quite a lot of!
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
I think that's true, cooking food regardless of it's source can make digestion easier. But honestly this discussion is pointless as it does not matter what we are supposed to eat. We could have evolved which would also not matter as it's still what you choose to eat that matters. Human beings can live on an omnivore and herbivore diet.

Hey jerome are you going to keep be vegan?
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
Quite likely, but I am pretty sure I won't consume a lot of animal products anymore in my life. I may get a downfall sometime, but for now I think the only way I consider eating something animal based on a regular basis if it was absolutely necessary for my health. In that case I may eat an egg every once in a while for example. But not one that was bought in the store.

Not sure if jeremy is right about coconut oil, its true that its saturated fat but its natural and the body can process them well with good health benefits, take a look at natives who climb coconut trees who eat these all the time, they are fucking healthy and athletic. It's their counterparts that have been westernise by whiteman and eat "corn beef" who are now so fat they need their feet amputated
@JeromeFitness

I agree with the sugars, but not with what you say about oil being our friends. Oil isn't healthy and is just empty calories basically.

It depends, I think he's smart and has some good rationality which I appreciate. He's also a strong individual who stands for what he believes regardless of what others think of him, another characteristic I appreciate. Although I think he's quite stupid for getting married at a young age, especially with someone he's married to and he turned into a wimp I think. I can understand why some people dislike him though as he's very extreme. However, it's because of his videos I became vegan, as he showed animal slaughter videos and recommended watching Earthlings. I figured I had to watch it as an animal lover and nutritionist.

The concept that a vegan shouldn't adopt a needy cat or dog because they require a meat-based diet is hard for me to accept. Surely the intention of being vegan is to help animals? Because cats and dogs seemingly NEED to eat meat, the cat or dog woukd be eating meat irrelevant of its owner, or it would be put down because no one wants to home it. Therefore why would you not give it a good life even at the expense of other animals? This isn't at the expense of pleasure or personal satisfaction like a middle class human eating a steak sandwich slathered in butter and cheese is, it is to keep a loving creature alive. If we were all vegan, what would happen to the millions of dogs and cats? They'd all die off. Of course, animals die to feed cats and dogs and that's horrible. But you have to draw the line somewhere. Is a 15-year companion worth it? To me it is. Why? Because we don't have many choices. Just like if I had no choice but to eat meat, I would because it is worth it. Another ridiculous thing that some vegans profess is that animals are equal to humans or animals are in fact better than humans. This belief has driven some to act aggressively towards others, which to me is hypocritical and missing the point compelety. If my child were starving and I had no other choice but to feed her meat, I would. Similarly, If my cat whom I love dearly needed to eat meat to survive - and would be eating meat if someone else owned it or if it lived in the wild - I would feed it meat. Resentfully, yes, but I would do it. And I do.
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
You draw the line between pigs and dogs for example? Pigs are a whole lot smarter than dogs and are among the top 5 smartest animals, dogs don't even get in the top 10. So do you draw a line at the intelligence? The choice is easy to make when you can get meat from a store, but how would it be if you had to kill a cow yourself? Would you still find it easy to chose between your cat and your cow or would it be slightly more difficult? Thousands of species die off because of human beings and a big part from that comes from wanting to eat so much meat. Does that not outweigh not being able to feed cats and dogs? This is a hypothetical question of course, I would personally also not want cats and dogs to disappear, but I also do not want tigers to disappear, but we are headed to that because of our arrogant behavior. With cats I would actually find it easier, as you can just let it outside and it'll still be able to catch some wildlife himself. That's more natural than getting meat from a store for him/her to start with. Also, I think human beings and other animals are equal but not the same. We live side by side together, but humans have created a massive fantasy thinking we are better. We are not. Your comment is way to big to actually make a comprehensive reply to, but just read through it and wanted to point out some things and questions for you to think about. Challenge your own believes like I did too. You don't have to turn vegan if you educate yourself on the topic, it just makes you better informed and perhaps realize it's not such a crazy idea.
@angrygoldfish
@angrygoldfish 6 лет назад
JeromeFitness It would be significantly harder to feed my cat meat if I had to kill the animal myself to feed it. Hypothetically, then, would I still do it? Probably not. But that's not the point. The point is, if a cat has to eat meat and you don't have to kill a cow or pig or chicken or duck personally, which you don't, why not give one a home yourself when someone else is going to do it if you don't? Or it's going to be put down. This isn't a question of 'what if', because you could apply that question to almost anything. What if I had to build my own car, would I still drive? What if I could only marry someone of the same sex when I'm not gay, would I still marry? This isn't a question of hypothetical 'what if'. This is a practical question of 'why not'. If the factors are already in place and the wheels are already turning, why put a spanner in the works because of something hypothetical? When I talk to friends and family about my vegetarianism, I don't use the 'what if you had to kill the animal yourself' argument, because people don't have to kill the animal themselves. And if they did it's likely because it's their only source of protein and calories so they will do it in order to survive. In fact, people did it for centuries and accepted it. There are far better arguments for being vegetarian or vegan than 'what if you had to slaughter or milk the cow yourself' because all they have to do is answer, 'because I don't have to' and the conversation stops. You've hit a brick wall. As for pigs being more intelligent, it isn't about intelligence, it's about relationships. I believe you can create a bond between any animal. I have the privilege in this day and age where I can choose to create bonds with animals rather than eat them. Therefore I'm vegetarian. My cat doesn't have that privilege. My dog never did either. Therefore they're not. And since they're going to be fed meat anyway by someone or something, and I don't have to kill a pig personally to do it, why refuse to home an animal? If it's because you don't feel comfortable with it, that's fine. But the rational arguments for it are not very well grounded in my opinion. Also, to play the 'what if' game too, what if we actually better controlled cat and dog reproduction and dramatically reduced the amount of cats and dogs being born, we'd also dramatically reduce the need for dog and cat food and therefore reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the death of other animals. And cat and dog food is not purely meat. It's a lot of vegetables too. A much better way to solve this problem is to neuter and spay animals and open our homes to them. This will reduce the amount of negative effects on the atmosphere, will improve our emotional well being, and will reduce the need to slaughter as many animals. Most sensible vegetarians and vegans will all say, 'whatever impact we can make to help animals is good', even if it's a compromise.

You have to think about what you eat these days and we have the luxury to make those kind of choices, so make use of it. Whether you do it for your health, the planet, animals, clean water, equality, etc.
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
Well regarding the 'giving home part' is like saying if you don't kill animals but buy it yourself, it's okay. You increase the demand for meat (or a cat in this case). A cat that would otherwise have never been born if it weren't for your demand. So that is that. I agree with it not being the best approach to start with 'what if' and the 'why not' is stronger. But we just happened to get to that part of the discussion. I'll leave it at that for that part, but it doesn't take away the fact that if you get a cat, you're not actually doing anyone a favor other than yourself (unless it's a cat from a shelter I think). Fair enough, it's what you want to believe. I think it's a rather rational argument that the more intelligent an animal is, the more aware he is of how messed up their situation is. It doesn't mean one has more 'right' to live than the other, it just says that you could abuse an intelligent animal more than say a jelly fish. Again I agree on you with the last part. Even if you contribute only a bit it's great to start with. The main issue is the amount of people on this planet and their behaviour. Having pets is not the issue here and never was. I just pointed out that I find it a complex situation for cats to be fed a vegan diet so we agreed on it in the first place. It's just that there are only this many pets because we selfishly want there to be so many.
@JeromeFitness
@JeromeFitness 6 лет назад
Actually I notice I have skipped the 'needy' part of your cat or dog. I stated in the video that I think it's great if you can get an animal from a shelter, but don't go to a breeder who breeds them specifically as that only increases the need for more homes for the animals. You increase the demand, whereas adopting one that would otherwise have to live their entire lives in a shelter actually helps the animal.
