1. Stop drinking 4 hours before bed 2. No alcohol before bed 3. Limit soups, ice creams, avoid salty meals too close to bedtime 4. Caffeine can impact 10-12 hours after drinking (drink it early) 5. Meds (anti-depressants, blood pressure) may impact. Talk to your doc about timing. 6. Fluid retention (elevate your legs, compression stockings) 7. Daytime bladder habits. Hold off emptying bladder ‘just in case’

Some forms of alcohol aid sleep ... the body makes water all day long from carbs yes carbs ... the bladder needs magnesium to relax ... and magnesium is a relaxant .... FLUID RETENTION or edema is a problem with enzymes not socks ... which do nothing for the cause ... people who fast still pee .... dahhhhhhhh ..... chances are you are lacking magnesium and magnesium activates enzymes ... so good nutrition is advised ... and low carbs .... sorry if this bursts your bladder ...

As a type 2 diabetic and suffering with visit to the loo at night. I have now cured my water problem by controlling my sugar and carbohydrates intake because too much sugar in the blood stream will cause the body to remove the sugars by your bladder. At 79 years old it’s taken me years to come to fact. The body is always trying to tell you things but we don’t always understand.

@@audreynicoletti7329 Hi Audrey. I'm Irish but have been here over 40 years. Like everywhere there's good and bad. Everything works well - good transportation, good social services, good schools and universities (free). Health insurance is obligatory and costs approx US $600 per month per person; subsidized for those who can't afford it so everyone gets good medical care. The cost of living is high but we can't complain. Lots of rules and regulations - the Swiss are a law abiding lot. There are four official languages: French (in my part of the country), German, Italian and Romansch. The scenery is beautiful and the climate so-so, like most places nowadays. I had to come back and say thank you. I watched this video yesterday and began to follow your advice immediately . I stopped my water 3 hours before bed, having begun it early. That alone allowed me to sleep without getting up. Simple, logical, and doable. I found your channel last year when I was preparing for a dropped bladder surgery, which became a full hysterectomy. I was dismayed to find the night time wake ups begin again. I realize now the stress of this pandemic year caused me to not focus on the common sense aspect (or lack of it) in what I was doing. I will be looking to you for more of the same!

The most effective way of reducing night time urination is to eat your high fat meal of the day several hours before going to bed. Eating carbs requires water to process those carbs (the body requires three grams of water to process every gram of carbs) and that will come back to haunt you at night. Fats doesn't require water to be processed and therefore reduces nighttime urination. So, even if you aren't a low carber do a low carb, high fat meal several hours before bedtime and eat your carbs during the day. This has worked extremely well for me, in fact it is the only thing that worked.

What a coincidence it is to watch your video. I have had problems frequently going to the toilet in the middle of the night. I have been keeping a food diary and realised that I was drinking 2 large cups of coffee a day and about 4-5 cups of tea. All of these drinks are without sugar. It was yesterday, before I saw your video that I deliberately only drank 2 cups of tea and one large coffee with my last cup of tea taken about 15.00pm in the afternoon. For once, I slept right through the night only getting up once to let the dog out. I must admit that during this time, I went to the toilet (just in case) and to allow me to sleep right through and it worked! During the day I was drinking sipping water. The same regime has been adopted today, so here goes!

Drinking (sipping) hot (not warm) water as your last drink is also effective. Someone had told me this many years ago, and it actually worked. Of course, you should probably have this last drink long before going to sleep as suggested in this video, but it is reasonably effective even if done not very long before going to sleep. Thanks for the other tips (especially reduction of salty food).

How does this work?
@monamelte8466
@monamelte8466 9 месяцев назад
If I don't consume enough water then I have other dehydration issues like kidney stones developing along with cramping in the middle of the night. And when I consume enough water to make my body happy, I'm waking multiple times. Fortunately I'm able to keep a container next to my bed which makes it very easy to relieve myself and go right back to sleep. I actually have two measuring cups. And if I have too much throughout the night, I just dumped one into the other so I always have a empty one. I only collect 8 oz of urine so I have another issue. Then the one thing that people never mention is how many hours of sleep people get. Some people might sleep 5 hours and somebody else might sleep 8 hours. So what is normal for 5 hours and what's normal for 8 hours. These are questions I've never seen the answers to

@@xyqlz Try cutting out all beverages, only drink water. The human body is not capable of quickly processing alcohol or caffeine. Natural water needs very little processing, if any, and the body will rehydrate itself naturally so that the bladder can retain it without issue.

I find that only drinking water helped me a lot. It didn’t seem to matter what time I took my last drink, just only drink water. I found I could sleep 7 or 8 hours uninterrupted, but never to drink tea coffee or alcohol after midday.

@Michelle Kenway, thank you for the video. I was waiting for it. I know the reason now. Use the washroom only when its very essential during the day. As we do not have clean washrooms in every place, it has become a habit to go at places where its clean and before I move out of home. I need to train the brain. Thank you Michelle.

I have found that drinking carbonated water increases my need to urinate. It helps settle my stomach, so sometimes it is unavoidable, but I generally try to only drink it before 4pm, or avoid it all together. I've also found that brushing my teeth makes me have to urinate even though I might have just gone, so I brush my teeth about an hour before bedtime now.

The caffeine and how long it stays in the system was the eye opener for me. I'll be having 1 real ground coffee when I wake. Then decaf. Let's see how that works 😊... Greetings from the Scottish Highlands x

@angelviannedewolfe7612 2 года назад
And as someone who always looks for the silver lining 😊 now that I'll only be having 1 caffeine a day I'll be buying the best I can afford. I'd rather have 1 excellent coffee a day than half a dozen or so "ok" coffees 😊😋. Also since I stopped adding sugar I can taste if the coffee is good or mediocre lol😂

Decaf, please don't. Have you ever wondered how they take the caffeine out of the coffee? It's a chemical that you'll find in paint stripper. I'll rather have the coffee as it is. The devil you know is better than the angel you don't know!
