my strokes were 4 and 5 years ago and i have remarkably less energy than i used to. i was a teacher and my principal used to stand in my classroom doorway at 8 and 9 pm telling me to stop working and go home. now i cant imagine ever working 25 hours a week or more. id love to have a job working 4 hours a day, 3-4 days a week. thats about as ambitious as i think i can be. the major problem is that I can no longer do any kind of thinking/calculating in a noisy or stressful environment. i cant even cook a small dinner if people are in the kitchen talking. I'm frustrated because no one seems to think this its normal or common, but its so powerfully obvious that to me it should be at the top of the list of lasting effects. im not sure if its something doctors dont know about or if they dont address it because they know theres no cure. its true that i often feel like people just feel sorry for me and try to stay positive, but id really rather have plain truth.

i got out and walked almost a mile (i had to go into the woods - with my cane and carrying three transport carriers) to release some of the wildlife i had raised to set free. i barely made it and i had to rest for an hour because i did not feel safe to drive. my vca was a month and a few days ago. neuro fatigue is real!

I watched this a year ago, and I didn't even realize that I had buried in my brain what you said in this video. No matter how I felt each day, I kept working at my exercises until I was able to walk around the house. I am 16 month post (3rd stroke) and I am getting better slowly. Neurofatigue is also influenced in me with the foods I eat and decision fatigue is still something I struggle with. I continue to watch your videos and I really am grateful for your positive attitude - you share hope - something many doctors have no idea how to do. Bless you!!

Hi @Mrs Fox! Thank you for taking the time to comment. I'm so sorry that you're continuing to deal with this fatigue. One of my recent videos was also about using Energy Conservation strategies to better manage and cope with neuro fatigue. You may find that one helpful, too. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i8i4IMrb1C0.html) I hope that you are well and thank you again for commenting!

All good stuff! I like the 30 minutes exercise the most. thanks also pay attention to when you need to eat - your brain needs fuel, especially fats I have found it best to avoid alcohol, it is problematic on the following days.

@jamesalles Good point! Making sure that you eat when you’re hungry will help keep you energized. Like you said, our brains need healthy nutrients to heal🙂

also you need carbs! your brain runs on glucose predominantly so low carb diets will lead to lower cognitive ability, called keto-flu

It’s been 3 months now, I was in a road accident, suffering from mental fatigue since then. I don’t know how to deal with it & when it’s gonna be better. Some days are good some are bad. I’m healing but at a very slow pace. I feel like I’m sleep deprived even after sleeping well. Vision difficulty is also there while focusing . Please help if there are any suggestions.

I'm so sorry to hear about your TWO injuries: first, your stroke, and second, your family's unrealistic expectations! Help them to be more compassionate by asking them to watch this post stroke channel so they will be more informed and understanding! Stress and dismay do not help heal the brain! ~ a fellow stroke survivor🤕

On a slightly different problem,I am 18mths out from my stroke, and find myself fighting with my husband who insists that i go upstairs leading with my good leg, cos thats what everyone says to do, but my left legs too weak to hold me up while i lift my good leg up to the next stair, even with my stick i feel very unsafe.I can and do do it sometimes, but if i have brain fade no way.Am I just not perservering enough? My hubbysa good caregiver, but he's getting mad at me for not doing what he says.

I don’t think anyone truly realizes what does weaknesses, everything you speak about sounds functionally fantastic, but when you’re in it in the moment it feels like you’re drowning and no amount of sleep or rest can help this fatigue or maybe it should be called something else weakness , weighted down feeling I was told to reduce stress, but then how is that accomplished when all you’ve done is work to pay bills day-to-day I’ve always worked I never intended to be a shit maker. Just a blob that sits around and produces crap, I see therapist end it helps for the moment, but then the reality of life sensitive and I’m not producing the way I did Medication is not the answer, very frustrating
