737 FMC - [How To Create an FMC Off-Route Waypoint]

In today's video, we are going to talk about How can you create a waypoint using the Boeing 737 FMC.
If you select a specific procedure, using the DEP ARR page, you will have the whole approach loaded into the FMC.
By having the whole approach loaded on the 737 FMC you will have all the points of that specific approach.
If you will fly the whole approach is great, however, what will happen if you receive a radar vector, or you have to perform a self-positioning approach?
You cannot follow and trust the VNAV vertical information because it is based on the route loaded into your 737 FMC.
So, by creating and uploading your fmc route accordingly you will be able to use and get the VNAV information when on radar vectors and/or self-positioning.
You can create any point using as a reference another waypoint or the Aircraft position.
In order to create an off-route waypoint, you can select the reference waypoint (already present on the procedure) and use it as a VOR.
So, you have to imagine that the reference waypoint is a vor and figure out in which radial and distance is the off-route waypoint (that you want to create) from the procedure waypoint.

Fantastic, thank you so much for this important info. It´s very different from creating custom waypoints in an Airbus, but some aspects like waypoints is more intuitive and easy in a Boeing FMC. :)

One of the easiest instructional videos to follow and I thank you for your efforts. A crictism if I may, the background flying sequencies is not realy adding anything to the instructions, so make both the PFD and the FMC larger in the screen. As a pensioner I had to use the magnifier to follow your inputs into the scratch pad and buttons but please it is only a very minor item in a very well presented teaching aid.

Hello Captain. Firstly thank you for this excellent video and explanation. I have a question. How can i extend runway front line in FMC beyond FAF? I think it will be useful when approaching to increase awareness. Especially in heading sel mode.

Hey, you are welcome! So 1. Take the FAF point in the FMC, 2. Put it on top 3. insert the final approach track on the bottom right of the FMC display 4. Push extend and execute. Let me know if you manage to do it..

Couldn't watch yet, but if you explained how we select and/or chose waypoints in a flight plan, you sir are a life savior and stand out among the greatest ones. I'm saving to watch as soon as I can. P.S.: could you make a video about what the behavior of the controls is in real life? Like what happens if you let go of the yoke during flight, if you release pressure on the pedals, if you release reverse thrust levers and so on? Thank you!

@@PILOTCLIMB I'd like to know whether there's a map where you can choose the waypoints from in order to add to your flight plan and whether you have to choose all waypoints to a destination or you can skip some to shorten the distance. Also, if the ATC can direct you to an unplanned waypoint if they need you to hold on a new pattern for air control purposes. As for flight controls, I'd like to know what they feel like mechanically as you give them inputs and release them (that would be great to replicate those behaviors in a sim with force feedback). @@rohrichoak9740 Hey, I hope you are doing great!! So, when preparing your flight plan you should check the EN-ROUTE charts. In these charts, you will find the Airways that you can choose to fly to your destination. In order to enter the Airway, you need to fly a Standard Departure (i made a separate video about that) and a Standard Arrival ( I made a video about that also). ATC can direct you to any point and ask you to join any holding if required. When you apply a force to the controls (let's say you pull the yoke in order to climb) you need also to trim the plane in order to cancel the force of the flight control. If you don't trim the Boing 737 after you pull the control it will tend to go back to its previous position. That's why trimming releases the pressure on the control. THX for the video captain! I have a question about how to creat a T/D fix before the glide slope full extablished phase. Because sometimes ATC will give pilots a higher alt than the chart's FAF alt to capture the glide slope. It can help pilots to know when will capture G/S, if capturing G/S later than FAF, it will cause an unstable approach and higher than normal approach profile. anyway its pretty common in China, i dont know how will your country's ATC style. Looking forward to your reply, THX!!!

Hello Captain again very important point outed by you 😎 I only have a question about that topic, as you are mention we can create points If we dont want full procedure , cleared ILS etc but what about the terrain ? I mean can we do this all the time if terrain is ok and should we inform ATC about different route due to other Traffics? Best regards 😇

Hey, Thanks for watching. In order to go out of the standard procedure, you first need to coordinate with ATC and have the terrain insight or be above MSA. On a IFR flight you cannot fly randomly if you haven't previously coordinate with ATC.

@@gideonlespau6444 You need to buy one. I tried the PMDG and it is simply great! I tried the zibo for xplane11 also and is great aswell .. one of the two will make the Job.
