Latisha Rogers, who worked at the grocery store where 10 people were killed in a mass shooting, says a 911 dispatcher hung up on her during the shooting. #CNN #News
@@cocobutterchin6768 I broke down during this interview, May GOD give these families Strength!!!! The dispatcher was wrong in so many ways, She acted like she had no training at all, yes Fire this person please!!!
She’s absolutely right, she was left to die simply because she didn’t want the gunman to hear her. This woman still feels bad about the dispatcher losing her job and that’s a testament to her true humanity. Heart breakingly evil if you ask me, that dispatcher needs to find a job in a different field.
@@AmericanpatriotforTrump Oh your talking about the January 6th insurrection? Is that what you mean. Did you see how they were climbing the walls like monkeys ranting and raven because their orange grifter leader didn't win and he use people like you to try and help him STEAL IT.
@@AmericanpatriotforTrump WTF does this have to do with BLM?? This woman was trying to report/survive an active shooter and the 911 dispatcher was negligent. Git your head out of your ass.
I was a 911 call taker for 3 years. If someone is whispering, we are TRAINED to listen and stay on the line .. keep the line open and listen until you have enough info to dispatch an officer.. I don’t know how on earth this dispatcher hung up without knowing the terms of the call. Unbelievable.
I hope this is a message that universal training is needed for dispatching. There seems to be a disparity during the hiring/training process and dispatcher positions need to be taken more seriously.
I was a 911 operator for 5 years. You’re trained to deal with situations like this. We know a whisper means the caller is close to the perpetrator. We’re supposed to let caller know we’re there and pinged the call and send help. Never hang up.
I'll go you one better. I used to work in the complaint department of a business and our first and most important rule was never hang up on a customer. We'd be given a warning the fist time and put on probation, and if it ever happened again within that period, you'd be terminated. Thing is, those weren't even life or death call. Just the company's reputation for providing quality service.
Except I have been hung up on when a man was trying to violently break into my house at 3 a.m. - trying all doors and windows and trying to physically break down the doors while screaming. I was told to hide in a closet and he would eventually leave. Then they hung up and never sent the police to check if I was ok. If he would have been able to get in somehow, I would have been toast.
Got the chills when she said she could hear the glass crunching under his feet as he walked closer. Terrifying. I'm glad she's physically okay. No telling how long she'll suffer from being traumatized.
There are new techniques in therapy like EMDR and biofeedback that could really help the employees and customers who had to witness this. I hope there are professionals in their area reaching out to them!
I can’t seem to get hired as a 911 dispatcher, yet, they’re hiring ppl like this woman. How?? I’m sure this wasn’t her first time treating a caller in this manner.
Her response to Don’s question when asked about how’s she’s doing broke me down. The sheer terror that she felt and will continue to feel is heartbreaking…..unimaginable. I hope you heal ma’am. You’re a beautiful person inside and out. And you are STRONG!
Even after she was left to die by that dispatcher, she still has empathy for that person losing their job. Someone with such a kind, compassionate heart should never have to endure something so terrible. Life is cruel.

If someone calls the emergency services and the person is whispering , common sense will tell that they don't want to be overheard . The last thing you do is to hang up . That's gross misconduct .
Wow, whoever that dispatcher is,is a awful human being. Obviously someone whispering means there is someone or something around and they don't want to be seen by it. How could you do that? Even if you thought it was a prank call, you send help, period. This was so awful and I truly cannot imagine and hope I never or someone I love never has to experience something like this. Makes the hair on your arms stand up.
I was a dispatcher myself. This is unacceptable and unbelievable, too. Not professional at all. Its awful. These people have no other option than you, the one dispatcher that picks up. You are the one person that needs to do everything possible to help. That is the pride of every professional dispatcher to never let anyone down.
I was also treated so terrible by a 911 operator when my Sister died. I was nervous and he was fussing and yelling at me and I was crying, but I was too hurt to fuss back.
"She left me there to die" is an absolutely accurate summary of what this operator did, and it is the reason why she is not fit for this job. It sucks for anyone to have to be terminated but she could have literally caused deaths by responding in this way, so she needs to not be on the end of the phone when people call with life-threatening situations.
@@lzcracker the problem with doing that is it’s difficult to prosecute something like this How do you prove the exact damages and what not Also due to the high stress of being a dispatcher it might scare off potential workers
I want to give Latisha the biggest hug. When he asked her "how are you doing? Are _you_ okay?" and Latisha broke down, tears immediately started streaming down my face. I can't even imagine the horror, fear and hopelessness she experienced after being hung up on. My sincerest condolences to Latisha, all loved ones of the victims, and all store employees and customers there that day. 🙏🏼 Now about this emergency dispatcher lady... Being hung up on by a 911 dispatcher is totally unacceptable. If you hang up during a 911 call or if you begin to call 911 then hang up, they call you back ... But for a dispatcher to hang up on a caller while the caller is *whispering* which is almost always an _obvious_ indicator of eminent danger close by is not okay whatsoever.
"how are you doing?" I'm SO glad he asked her that! She spoke of feeling like she had just been left to die by a stranger, so now another stranger responds to her with GENUINE care for her welfare. No wonder she broke down. She needed that so badly & it no doubt meant a lot to her, great job!
I’m also glad that Don asked her how she was feeling. That exact moment brought me back to a day not long after the George Floyd murder when I was in a store and a white, male worker cheerfully simply said to me “hey, how’s it going today?” and that alone caused me to burst out in tears. I felt bad about it because he was so mortified, but I just couldn’t help it.

Isn't a caller whispering on the phone to emergency services an indicator of present danger? For the number of mass shootings that happen in America, you would think a dispatcher would take a wild guess. Mass shootings on the daily aren't a way of life, it's not normal and it's horrifying that Americans have accepted it as such.
@@johncheney3008 True that its even less than that. Most are suicides others are murders, but I feel as the new ramps up it just gives these low lives a platform to show off their murderous rampage to the world. They want infamy and the news wants shooting to push new gun legislation.

that's ridiculous. you can't tell me that 911 operators are not trained to expect callers whispering! they're even supposed to send cops if they're called silently because it's generally recognized that there are situations where people call 911 but have to avoid being heard.
My phone was in my pocket and dialed 911 once. It hung up on them and they called me back and were seriously going to send the police to where I was (gas station). I explained the mistake and assured them that everything was ok. I never put that phone in my pocket again.
If the operator heard enough to say "they can't hear you", she heard enough to know that the caller was in danger. Firing that operator is the absolute lowest penalty for a person who can't do the job. Mishandling certain kinds of jobs is criminal and should be treated as such so that the others do it responsibly

When I hear stories of dispatchers like this, and the other one for a lady that drowned in her car during a flash flood. A similar experience with 911 services happened to me 3 years ago. The operator began yelling at me and threatening to hang up even though I'm trying to explain I found someone dying. I had to find a neighbor just to talk to dispatch. It still breaks my heart to this day. Still saddened because the person lost their life and I had to argue with emergency services. R.I.P
As a former dispatcher, I can tell you that many of the 911 calls we answered were either screaming or whispering. As a TRAINED dispatcher, one must handle each call as they are received: conversational voice, complete mayhem or frightened whispers for help. I am so sorry for Ms. Rogers that she had to reach an extremely poor representative of telecommunicators, who compounded her fear & stress.
I can't imagine being able to sleep at night with this job. Yes, thank you for your service to people. Hopefully you are on an island somewhere enjoying YOU.
What a brave lady, she is fantastic in her description of what happened, I feel like I can see everything she was describing in real time.. The site silence must have been terrible. God bless her and everyone affected.
ms Rogers said something to the effect that - "the dispatcher acting like the caller was bothering her." that's normal cop behavior. that's what cops do. THEY HATE BEING BOTHERED and expected to do their jobs. i've reported MANY CRIMES committed against me, including the extortion of $50 grand and 6 years of criminal harassment by my landlord and neighbors. the cops REFUSE to enforce the law. they leave me at the mercy of my abusers! the last conversation i had with a cop, just about a month ago, where the neighbor who's been harassing me for 6 years filed a FALSE police report against, WHICH IS A CRIME, all the damned cop had to say was - "we have better things to do than babysit you people!" THAT'S THEIR ATTITUDE! when cops become the criminals then WE HAVE NO LAW! and, in america over the last 20, 30 years, we have no law. the u. s. is a LAWLESS SOCIETY!
The 911 dispatcher needs to be in prison, simply as that! That is at the bare minimal conspiracy attempted homicide, because the dispatcher was aiding in the demise or being negligent to human life. People get 10 to 15 for that!
The sound of silence scares her now. Like me being scared when someone is walking behind me in a crowd, thinking they're robbers. My condolences to all the bereaved families. Prayers as well for people like her who witnessed this heartbreaking tragedy.
……and the dispatcher never even attempted to call her back. That demonstrates a complete and utter disregard for life. What if someone was literally dying , called 911 and summoned up enough energy to produce a whisper to communicate a need for help,? It might be wise to review all her calls
This reminds me of the lady who accidentally drove into a body of water and couldn't get out and she called 911 and the dispatcher got mad because she was frantic and the dispatcher actually mocked the lady and told her to shut up. Well that lady didn't make it and she drowned in her car and that dispatcher faced zero charges. If you don't know about it I encourage you to look it up.
I really hope this woman will be okay. Being a victim of such a traumatic event can't be easy. She did everything she could to get the help she needed and, thankfully, others were there for her in her time of need.

What is the hiring requirements like for a dispatcher?... I'm just curious... I would think that they would have to hire people who are very upbeat and kind of happy to be of service to people... Not mean or uncaring... What I'm trying to say is there should be a certain personality type that they are aiming for....
@@zulu3274 Like most jobs, I'm sure there is a certain personality type they try to hire. Sadly, 911 operators have one of the highest stress jobs and are underpaid for their work. I've known plenty of happy upbeat EMTs and operators who leave to become servers or retail managers because they need a break from their careers.
@@zulu3274 we went through a series of different tests to weed out applicants. We had typing test, a reading comprehension test. Then there was a geographical test (they gave us a map with fire stations w/various equipment at each. Then they would give a scenario and tell kind equipment needed. You had to say which location would get to the scene quickest). There was also a hearing and vision test. Then there was a panel interview. I think it was one more test but I can’t recall what it was but I know it was some kind of personality test. Background check including education, employment, traffic and of course criminal. My training program was 4 months and that included ride alongs with police fire and ambulance.

@@soulife8383 It doesn't matter, every 911 call should be treated as an emergency. As a dispatcher, you are the first person on the scene and its their job to handle each call accordingly... sometimes that means listening if you have trouble hearing the caller, connecting a translator if the caller doesn't speak their language or TTY for a deaf caller, asking yes/no questions to find out why they're whispering, providing instructions if necessary, keeping the caller calm, and dispatching medics. Even if they couldn't hear the caller, technology is so amazing that you can see on a map where the caller is calling from and get their location, if its a landline you can see the exact address...either way you should dispatch patrol to check out the scene. Not coming for you directly, just letting people know that its not unheard of to get a call where you can't hear the caller, hang up calls, children calling, nonverbal callers, etc.. That's not just a fireable offense. In my opinion she should face some jail time. 10 people lost their lives, and most were senior citizens. Had she done her job as a dispatcher maybe a few of them could have been saved. They were taken from their families by being brutally murdered...! You can't convince me she didn't hear gun shots in the background.
why don't you pray to your god to stop the shootings before they happen? while you're at it maybe tell this god to do something about the 5 million babies that die every year - maybe, since prayers never work but people keep spouting this absurd and pointless lip service, you should pray for a brain.

The way that operator acted, especially not calling back...and saying "why you whispering, he can't hear you" was that operator watching that murder's live stream????
A lot of these people working those 911 calls are just too involved with themselves. They're just there for a paycheck. Not realizing that this job is more than a paycheck. Police officers do the same thing.
When you look at it this way, that the 911 operator assisted the shooter by dropping the call and give the shooter more time, even if the extra time is milliseconds. You realize a charge of Aiding and Abetting or accessory to murder is only fair.
That "How are YOU doing?" was so necessary. She recounted all those details, then broke down at that question like she needed to release ALOT. She's brave & I know her loved ones are grateful she made it out of that.
