Spend a cozy & productive day with me working on my book's second draft, getting back into my writing routine, and having a chat about self-doubt as a writer~
Self-doubt, setbacks, and fear are a normal part of writing but can make it really difficult to be consistent and stick with your novel✒️
Here are a few things that help me deal with self-doubt in my writing, and I hope they can be helpful for you too!
Try to think of your self-doubt as entry requirements to get to where you want to be. If you want to write a book, but you feel like you can’t because you’re “not smart enough”, “not disciplined/consistent enough”, or “just don’t believe it’s possible for you”, then these are the exact things you need to deal with IN ORDER to reach your goals.
They’re like stepping stones, because as you’re pursuing a goal, you’ll be confronted with the very things in yourself that are holding you back. This is a good thing!! It reveals what exactly you need to change so that you can reach that goal.
For example: If you don’t trust yourself to see this through because you think you’ll just give up anyway, then you need to develop the discipline you lack to reach this goal. Start small, prove to yourself you’ll do what you say. Write 200 words every day, about anything, not for your writing but for your discipline IN writing. Do this consistently, and these doubts will start to disappear. If you don’t believe it’s possible to reach your goal, then challenge that. Find people who did, how did they do it? Can you do the same? Why not? I promise you, if you deal with the root of your self-doubt, you’ll be able to overcome it and grow into the person who CAN reach your goals.
Thanks so much for watching, I hope you liked this video😊 Let me know what you think in the comments, and I'll see you next week!

Amazing! I’m glad to hear you can relate to all this, and hopefully find some value in it 🫶🏻 I love hearing from other writers, what genre are you working on?

Fair enough! I will write roughly 200 words today on the project on which I have been procrastinating for the last week!

I love to hear it! Good luck on your project, Michael😊 I definitely find consistency the hardest in writing, but I try to tell myself that something is always better than nothing ~

This video helped me a lot. Thinking back now, I encounter these walls from time to time and what I usually do is give up and look for something else to try and achieve. I end up today having a huge collection of giving up experiences. Thank you, I will identify this walls and create a strategy to cross them.

I’m so glad, that really means a lot to me🫶🏻 I can relate to this all too well! But I’ve found that viewing myself as someone who always gives up on things is what kept me stuck in that cycle, and only by changing how I see myself (still a big challenge today!) did it become easier to focus on my goals and really stick with them.. Good luck in identifying your walls, it’s tricky but so worth it! Also, a few affirmations I’ve found helpful for a ‘giving up mindset’ ✨This is tough, but so am I ✨ I am capable of doing hard things ✨ Something is always better than nothing Please let me know how things go for you, I’m wishing you the best!😊

@@itszoewinter I love the affirmations and I'm going to write them down in my bullet journal. I also end up bringing back these bad memories of things I gave up on. So I'm going to practice these affirmations and be careful with my thoughts. Thank you very much I wish the same for you as well 💙✨✨

I think it's a great idea to find out how other people go about editing. I found it took a lot of playing around to discover how I edit best.

Yes I find it so interesting to see how every writer seems to have their own process when it comes to writing! Do you have any advice for the editing stage? I see you have a lot more experience in writing and I’d appreciate any words of wisdom☺️

Random question: In what genres do you write in? (i.e. fantasy, romance, etc.)? Thank you in advance.

@@itszoewinter (EDITED COMMENT) Sorry about the previous comment! I confused you with someone else. My brain is not fully functioning today.😬 Please excuse the screenwriting talk. 🤦‍♀ Oh cool! . Wishing you the best with working on it!😊 Is personal development your niche when writing books? I'm kinda working on a book as well. Life keeps getting in the way and I've hit a roadblock with it.😕 I really want to get back into it. And recently, I've been doing a very rough outline for another project. Right now, I'm just writing down any ideas that come to mind.

Just a feedback/suggestion, don't hard code the subs and then audience doesn't have an option to turn it off if they'd want to.
