A stunning Mk1 Ford Sierra Laser 1.6 Estate with 20,237 miles and one owner.
EQUIPMENT
Toned polycarbonate bumpers with bright insert, bright side window surrounds, black bodyside protection moulding with bright insert, tailgate wash/wipe. Laser Special Edition features; 1.6 litre High Efficiency E-MAX engine, colour coded door mirrors, twin coachline, Laser badges to front wings and tailgate, Truro cloth upholstery. Factory options; Metallic paint, tilt/slide sunroof. Dealer options; RS 7-spoke alloy wheels, Sierra mud flaps, tailored Ford carpet mats.
EXTERIOR
Finished in factory optional Metallic Imperial Red, (Code 2 4), the original finish is quite incredible with a gorgeous deep uniform shine. All factory panels are straight with a uniform fit and the underside is in perfect structural order thanks to garage storage and light underside protection treatment applied from new. Virtually no markings to the finish are worthy of mention other than a touched-in chip to the bonnet and a tiny mark to the stripe on the passenger door. All glass and rubbers are perfect factory fitment as are the light clusters and Lucas headlights. Period number plates with dealer branding to the front as well as original badges and decals uphold the cars unmolested appeal.
INTERIOR
The plush Laser Truro trim in Mocha colour scheme, (Code M K), is a 1980’s time warp preserved in outstanding condition. The original upholstery is spotlessly clean and the unworn seat structures boast firm bolsters and bases. Matching door cards have no shrinkage to the fabric and all plastics are preserved with only a thumb-nail size chip to the handbrake lever plastic. Protected by genuine Ford carpet mats, the colour-keyed velour carpet is immaculate and free from wear and the neutral tone headlining is excellent with no rips or marks, even in the load area. Virtually unheard of for a Mk1 Sierra, the fully intact dashboard has no cracks whatsoever. All switchgear is fully functional including the Ford stereo radio/cassette and analogue clock. The boot area is amazing and has immaculate carpeting underneath which are the pristine storage compartments holding the virgin factory spare wheel with the tyre never used as well as the original jack in its foam holder.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Customers specifying the 1.6 petrol engine Sierra Laser received as standard the E-Max High Efficiency powerplant. Power output is quoted at 74bhp at 4,900rpm (400rpm lower than the standard 1.6 OHC engine) while an increase of 3Nm of torque brings the maximum figure to 123Nm at 2900rpm. The clean engine bay displays factory panel stampings, labels and plates as well as original Ford Motorcraft clips, hoses and service consumables. The paint has thinned on the front slam panel and strut tops. The five-speed manual gearbox is standard on the E-Max and is a real joy to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Specified as a dealer accessory when new are a set of now ultra-rare 13in 7-spoke RS alloy wheels which remain in immaculate condition. Matching Uniroyal Rallye 380 175 R13 tyres are replacements chosen by the fastidious owner as the closest match to the original Uniroyal fitment. All tyres display masses of tread. The dual-line servo assisted G-Valve brakes with ventilated 9.4in ventilated front discs and rear drums bring the car up straight and steady.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Ford Main Dealer, Peter Garven Ltd of Gateshead, and registered on the 3rd August 1984, the vehicle was purchased new by Mr Taylor who is the only ever owner! The new vehicle sales invoice made out to Mr Taylor confirms the total price of £5,690.51 less part exchange allowance of £1,750 for his 1980 Datsun Sunny Estate. Used sparingly, mostly by Mrs Taylor, the car has covered just 20,237 miles from new and was strictly garaged when not in use alongside Mr Taylor’s Mk1 3-door Range Rover, also purchased new and which he still owns! The history file consists of paperwork dating from the first service invoice at the supplying dealer in 1985 to MOT certificates dating back to 1988 which track the mileage. The original Peter Garven Ltd document wallets houses the service book, handbooks, guides and dealership literature as well as both sets of keys with dealer leather fobs which operate all locks.

This has the best of the Sierra grilles, these got the Ghia/XR4i-style grille past October 1984, so this car is one of the last ones made to get one. Also, the colour is really nice, this car would truly stand out when it's out on the road. And the interior takes me back to seeing these in a Ford showroom, where I would collect their bi-monthly Ford Cars brochures. It's also amazing that the analogue dashboard clock has been loudly ticking away every second for almost 40 years!

Beautifully preserved rare example , we have an ' 89 2.0 Ghia Estate in Tasman Blue also with RS wheels , now in semi-retirement , used on sunny days and enjoyed , bought on eBay in 2007 with 27k miles for £1995.The only previous owner was a marine engineer, who filled every vulnerable orifice underneath with preservative oil and checked annually, and to this day is still 100% mint and original at 58k .The car is always admired , asked if it is for sale , totally reliable and every MOT is enjoyed and a hoot !.It just shows that cars like these with resonable care can last well beyond their expected lifespan and simple enough to maintain yourself.

This Sierra is in a wonderful condition displaying, in my opinion, the best grill. An estate version, or the so called "cow car". Estate versions of saloons can often look ugly (Cortina estate being a good example "species car") But this vehicle is a real gem from the 1980s when motoring was fun and a real adventure.

I can't remember when I last saw a Sierra of any description? Let alone this beauty. Mr & Mrs Taylor of (Gateshead) are seemingly old school. They've discovered some time ago, if something is reasonably well made and fit for purpose, with care and regular maintenance, it will last for years.

This is probably the first "square" headlamp Sierra that I've seen in over a decade. Would've bought one if I was able to in 1982, as I know that they are VERY good for DIY maintenance. Ford's gamble with this model DEFINITELY paid off imo. Surprised this one survived quite undiscovered!

Amazes me how KGF cars find all these pristine examples I personally think it needs larger wheels that’s the only thing
@letsdiscussitoversometea8479
@@christopheredison2094 strangely, that's never been an issue to me :) In fact, I find that smaller wheels offer a more comfortable ride. I'm even quite happy with steel (OR plastic) hubcaps/wheel trims. Almost sought after these days 😅

Then did two a year Starting with T in March & V in September 1999. W in March 2000, X in September 2000 & the very last lettered Reg was Y in March 2001. Then Numbers from September 2001 onwards starting with 51

I don't wish to be pedantic but the radio cassette is not the original when the car was built. This model came with the older RST 21P radio cassette player with two large volume and tuning knobs. The one fitted here appeared throughout the Ford range from 1986 (October 1985 onwards) model year and not before. Not that it really matters. Very nice car although I would have preferred the OEM wheels and trims to keep it all as brochure original.

Every time I watch one of your short videos showcasing 80s classic cars I feel like I’m stepping back in time, as I fondly remember the cars and how life was back than. Some things are only appreciated when the time passes by, and we no longer see those times anymore. New technology moves on, but for me some of the new cars manufactured today do not have that special something, like these cars had. Ford should learn a lot from the past and try and recapture it in some way, without making its cars gimmicky or too retro.

I agree, the 1.6 was gutless. An unladen 1.8 CVH engined Sierra was surprisingly quick and under normal driving could keep up with the 2.0 pinto. . It was only after you had gone above the motorway speed limit that the 2.0 had the edge.
