We heard about this very original Ford Sierra Mk1 which had been stored in a garage for 12 years - it was too good an opportunity to miss. We hope you enjoy following our journey to view, transport and get the car running.

My Dad had a Sierra estate in white, JVS663Y it was a 2litre GL and he loved it, had grey velour interior. He drove to Spain in 1985 and he said he’d never driven a car so comfortable over a long distance. He liked vans as he was unpretentious and a builder but this car he held in high regard. Great cars and so ahead of their time style wise if not mechanically ⭐️

Great video! I love these, my parents bought a silver 1983 Y model back in 1986, a 1.6 GL like this one. Even though it had been out a few years we were still wowed by it's futuristic appearance as it sat on our white and wintery driveway. Even passed my test in it in '91. Super-fond memories, and this is a terrific find. Well done! 👍🏻

Hi, Just found your channel and have subscribed. I owned an early 1983 2.0GL Sierra in exactly the same colour as yours inside and out. I purchased it at 3 yrs old to replace a mk 5 Cortina that was damaged in a road accident. It was a great comfortable car and to me, a great improvement over the Cortina. The Sierra was a big step forward for Ford, probably too big for some customers. I have recently purchased a 1986 mk 1 1.8 Sierra in original condition to try to relive my younger days!!! Just had a look at your list of vids,and can see i've got some watching to catch up on.

A 2.0ltr GL at just 3yrs old must have been a cracking car to drive as your daily transport - I've been a fan of the Sierra since launch, but as you say they were too big a step too quickly and it took the buying public a little while to catch up, but they did! I had a 1983 Sierra 1.6GL as a taxi.... Was really nice to drive and very reliable. I know alot of the Cortina DNA from the MK3/4 was brought over but I've driven mk3 Cortina's in the past &the Sierra to drive was by far superior in every way

What a lovely car. Just making my way through your older videos. That boot release switch is identical to the one on my Mk5b Escort - and it’s 10 years younger than the Sierra!!!!

I love sierras.my 1st car was a early y reg 1.6gl.just under 6 years old.was a posh car for a 17year old at the time.i cant believe it was so long a go😔i kept it for about 6 years then swapped it for a f reg sapphire ghia.allways preferred the mk 1 tho.havent bin in one for 20 years.good luck with it and thanks for the memories.have subscribed and liked👍

Wow, great survivor, considering they loved to rust back in the day. My dad had a November 1984 B reg 1.6 L 5 speed ( option on the L ) so not quite as posh, in Laquer Red, which I learnt to drive in. I had a 1988 F reg 1.8 LX in White.

Great video Andy, I recently bought myself a Sierra MK2 coupe in this exact same colour for 150€ from my grandmother's friend. Yes is has rust, yes it only has a 1.6, but it's my first car, so I'm very happy. I'm looking forward to more videos from you with this beautiful car

I bought an almost new Y reg Sierra from a merchant seaman who was going to sea for a while. It was so new that when I drove to Port Merion village (Nr Portmadoc), boy did it attract attention. That said, it wasn't as economical on fuel at my previous Cortina's and because it was a base model, as first cars usually are, it lacked the comforts of my Cortinas and I sold it after only a short time.

Thanks for the comment. Wow, your car must have attracted lots of attention being so close to launch - the Sierra really did catch the eye back then and divide opinion. Having said that, the Cortina was also an excellent car and I can understand the hankering for a return to a trusted Cortina. Thanks for watching.

We had the Sierra here in South Africa too. With a: 3 litre Essex OHV V6 (XR6) and a 5.0 litre H.O. OHV V8 (XR8) from the Ford Mustang of the time. No 4x4 XR4 models though. We did get the Sapphire though. No 4x4 in that too unfortunately.

This Sierra is nearly 39 years old and doesn't look too old fashioned, registered April 18, 1984 around the time when Tommy Cooper collapsed and died at a London theatre. The Austin Montego was introduced that week and there are only about 50 left.

My dad had a white one: brand new with a big black spoiler on the back as i believe they had downforce handling issues.

Thanks for the comment. Must have been great to own one from new. As you say, there were some stability issues at high speeds which is why they fitted the strakes to the rear quarters from 1985. Thanks for watching, I hope the video brought back fond memories.

My parents had a Crystal green 1.6 ghia on a y reg from new (1982). My mum hated jt as the engine was allways running rough. Before that dad had a v reg 2.0 ghia codtina in solar gold. The sierra did feel Very modern In comparison especially witg the car diagram showing open doors etc

I have got my hands on one 1983 in original state MK1 2.0 ohc. It has not seen much care for decades and I think the current owner is the only one. Only posititive is that it has almost no rust. Is it worth to bring it back to life?🤔 And runs aswell. Left stearing. I stopped it from beeing wrecked.

Thanks for the comment and congratulations on buying a Mk1 Sierra... they are properly cool old cars! I'd say it is certainly worth saving albeit if you do not intent to keep the car long-term then be careful what you spend as Sierras (outside of XRs and Cosworths) are still undervalued in my opinion. Nice motor. Currently one for sale online so desperate to buy it. Only problem is cost of housing it and may get flak from mates or family. Probably last chance of buying a decent mk1 sierra and it got low mileage to.

Great video. I'll buy it when you're finished! 5 speed gearbox wasn't standard. My dad's car was exactly the same as that and was 4 speed.

My dad's was delivered in June 84, so they might have made it 5 speed after that but still in 84. Let me know if you ever sell it!

Nice catch! I heard that there is a difference between the doors of the series 1 and the series 2 and/or series 3. The windows should be larger on the newer cars, is that true?

Thanks for the comment, I was very pleased to have found the Sierra GL and enjoyed recommissioning it. I’m not sure about the door size, I’ll look into it. They certainly feel different, Mk1 to Mk2, so you may very well be correct. Thanks for watching.

Hello from Russia. If say true from USA now. At Russia I left Ford Sierra 2.0 GL with same colour and same year produce if we say about VIN number and documents. EG or 1984, April. Grey interior. I know that little spoiler on back windows is since 1985. But my car have it. Also my car has little front crash. And it is mean that front bumper and grilles could be replaced. Also at Russia when this car came was bad times and was popular change VIN number and documents on cars when they came from abroad. And because I’m don’t know which year of produce correct for my car. Mystery

Thanks for the comment Colin. I suppose it is all a matter of personal preference as personally I think the sportier / higher spec Sierras look pretty good, but stepping from the Cortina to the Sierra did divide opinion. Thanks for watching.
