I am a pilot, firefighter and Air Force Veteran. I found two planes that where destined for the Scrap yard. These planes haven't flown in 14 years. I tracked down the owner and made a deal to save the planes, Join me on the adventure of putting these two great airplanes back in the air. Will it start after sitting for 14 years. Only 74 hours after going through a major over. Fingers crossed.
Don't for get to check out the video on the abandoned airplane a 1979 Baron B55. Both airplanes where owned by the same owner and sat at the airport for 14 years. These planes where destined for the scrap yard. Thankfully I was able to purchase these planes and rescue them from the scrap yard (hopefully). I am a combination of Jimmy's World and Rebuild rescue. If you haven't seen their videos please check them out. This journey is just beginning.
This video is for entertainment purposes only and is not intended as instruction in any way. For instruction please contact your local flight school.

I had the same problem with my Cessna about the gauges not working properly and found a common ground had some corrosion that made them intermittent. Easy fix in back of the panel. Good job, waiting to watch it fly again.

Great motor you got there! High compression and no smoke etc after 14yrs means to me those valves are brand new etc, and there was no leakage over that long time. You hit a luck on this one.

Compressions where in the upper 70’s all the way around I was surprised but it runs great.

If the prop can be cycled you have oil pressure. Look for a bad electrical ground since several engine instruments don't work.

Awesome! I’m based at KEET and have seen this 182 sitting in the shade hangar for years. Always been curious about it. Happy to see y’all giving her the attention she needs! Good luck!

Corrosion on starter means corrosion in engine. It should be torn down sitting that long with fist size corrosion holes in cowl.
@storiesfromtheoldcowboy8876
Great, it runs. Considering how long it's been setting it came back to life pretty quickly.
@Daybreakaviation

We where surprised at how easily it started. Only 74 hours after major overhaul.

Hex, if it runs it’ll fly. I say fly it out

Great thing about this, if it’ll run, no need to worry about anything else. Can’t be a bad motor if it runs. Everbody knows that.

Cycle the prop and confirm oil pressure if the prop cycles the gage is probably faulty

Great video, this is exactly the kind of stuff nobody will show. So how did you fix the oil pressure, was it the gauge or something else? And how do you fix the fuel gauges?
@Daybreakaviation
@Daybreakaviation Год назад
Bad gauge we put a remote gauge on it to see the actual oil pressure.

Damn....that is one smooth running engine. Did you try to cycle the prop yet? Never mind, I see you did. Still going with a 3 blade?
@Daybreakaviation
@Daybreakaviation Год назад
I bought a used three blade prop and will be putting it on the plane soon.

There's a whole lot of hidden problems waiting for your first flight. It's a rebuild to be sure unless complete records and indoor storage. And no electronics would be trustworthy anyway.
@williamschwab3384
@williamschwab3384 Год назад
3 minutes of engine running with no indication of oil pressure?!?!?! Stupid move! You lucked out, big time. You should have pulled top plugs, cranked engine over until you got oil pressure, ONLY THEN would the engine be ready to fire. Gonna watch and see how long your luck lasts.

Aircraft sitting abandoned for years, no contact with owner. Airfield storage fees must be paid and it accrues every month. Gets to a point where aircraft value is less then what is owed. Airfield now owns said aircraft. Airfield can now sell aircraft or keep it.

@Daybreakaviation
@Daybreakaviation Год назад
Bad gauge, we changed it out and it works now. The back of the instruments had a little corrosion I think that caused the problem with the gauge.

How the oil pressure problem got rectified????

We put a remote gauge on it and it was showing good oil pressure. I am replacing the gauge and installing a jpi 830 engine monitor

Do you have to be an A&P mechanic to work on your own plane like in this video?
@Daybreakaviation
@Daybreakaviation Год назад
No, but you do have to work under one. I spend 6 years in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic but also work under Tim.

Help me understand the abandoned airplane RU-vid deal ? So this 182 is not yours ? You just want to see if it runs ? The owner OK with this ? Only takes less than 30 seconds to find the owner. If you bought it, Congratulations you own a very nice 182 ! The other option is not good. Just asking ?
@Daybreakaviation
@Daybreakaviation Год назад
I bought the plane from the owner. He kept the hanger fees paid and just let it sit.

Using a cheap wire wheel on a drill without wearing eye protection is a good way to get blind in one eye and end your flying days. Good luck with the aircraft though.
