One important thing to note here since they have to abide by TWT rules: AK can't give JDCR free damage let alone give him the round since the TOs intervened and enforced the TWT rule that they will restart the round where the anomaly occured. AK and JDCR have to play the final round over again. AK can't throw the round because that's tampering and maybe even matchfixing. He would be disqualified not only from this tournament but possibly from the entire TWT.
@randomvideoboy1 All I can see is a previously connected pad that wasn't properly disconnected trying to connect again now that it's coming nearer, maybe from a player from a previous set that went away from the stream PS5 to do something and came back to either watch the game or prepare for their streamed game. There's a lot to draw from it, but we can't really point fingers and draw conclusions from it ourselves.
@@al8704 Whose controller was it? Can you confirm that the third controller was from either JDCR or AK's camp? Because that itself is a grey area that the TOs can investigate themselves, but holding forward and giving your opponent free damage in a tournament or even letting them win is a clear violation of the rules.
@randomvideoboy1 That's just the video buffering from PhiDX's part. There is no "trying to connect" because as soon as you connect a controller via wireless o wired, it will instantly pop up.
@@ThisIsNotEdwardYT bro who benefited from the situation? Who lost? Who would've won if that didn't happen? Man got robbed and you're okay with. That's it move along.
@@patch3324yeah AK should have cried there cause he survived and got a chance... seriously is common sense don't exist on that little brain of urs? ofc he'd be happy inside for surviving and getting a second chance geez
Any harassment towards any of the parties involved in this is small peepee behavior :) TOs have already taken responsibility and the players themselves are on good terms.
You don't have to harass to know that JDCR more than likely won, and got straight up robbed. And sure there is sportsmanship debate as you mentioned at the end, but i think it shows a BIT of AK's character too. He is not dumb, he knows he shoulda lost that, but he took the remake instead. Edit: But big props to JDCR for handling it so well, he was tested here, and he did it with grace. Double Edit: I dont think AK is a bad person. But i see a lot of people trying to act like JDCR and AK were both equally robbed, and thats just straight up not true. Its why i basically feel the same about AK, but this shows a lot of good quality character about JDCR to handle being robbed SO WELL
@@ghostghostgaming5637 There is not a single player up on that stage, including JDCR himself, who would have thrown that rematch. Following the rules doesn't make AK a bad person, and neither would it make anyone else one.
Regardless of how good and nuanced the rules might become there will always be room for error. I just hope that something like a controller connection check before matches for all controllers - bluetooth and wired, is implemented after this.
@randomvideoboy1 One can also say that it was deliberate so as to demolish AK’s reputation. As suspicious it might be but we can only leave it to speculation, unless a solid evidence of cheating is provided. To think that after the game, JDCR even consoled AK that it’s just ok. Sh*t like this happens, and it’s no one else’s fault except for that idiot who did it.
Before even watching the vid I knew exactly what this was about ☹️ Shitty situation all around but what made it worse was “fans” who weren’t endemic to the community being completely asshats with their reactions.
Phi covers it in the video. It was a controller issue that interrupted a match at the worst time in the final round during an EWC bracket in Dreamhack Dallas.
The mistake was too big to ignore and my interest in this tournament died the moment I saw it Feels bad to watch one of your favourite pro playes get treated so wrongfully and getting a meaningless apology after the damage was already done
I don’t know what you talking about that tournament ruin it happens of every event you can’t exaggerating about one people lose from one malfunction being resonant and be glad one Asian player won even jdcr beat ak he would’ve lose any of players to next pool
The truth is the person in the crowd who hit the home button knew what they were doing. Because they tried to do it at 14:29 also but were not successful. 2 times both match point in JDCR favor and mid kill combo. They purposely waited till the final round final match final combo to 100% was going to kill to hit the home button. The correct thing was to give the win over to JDCR because that combo was 100% going to kill AK.
as phi said, this is not a last hit situation. had ak been mid air with 5% health in the middle of jdcr finishing his combo right when the game got interrupted, then yes, jdcr would have 100% won no contest. but in this scenario, theres still 30 seconds on the clock, which for tekken is an eternity, oki scenario, ak has a ton of grey health, and also has enough health to survive a poke or 2. these kinds of comebacks are not at all rare, even in tournaments. ak COULD have made a comeback and won or jdcr COULD have finished him off. this uncertainty is why jdcr wasnt just given the win.
@@misellus3931i honestly thought jdcr could have killed. He didn’t get to finish his unscaled hit towards the end but momentum is everything so you can’t replay momentum
Why not just put them in the same scenario where they have the same life left and ak near the wall? That was the only logical way to do it as what could even disadvantage AK when he was the one who got his combo stopped@@misellus3931
@@misellus3931 Bullshit. At this level those kind of comebacks are very rare. At this amount of HP AND jdcr going full blown in this round, it was impossible for AK to come back. Everyone knows that.
Just force everybody to play wired and turn off the bluetooth. As simple as that. Usb cable costs 5 bucks or the TOs could have them for those who forgot. It worked at my small local where the average rank was reds/purples so it can work everywhere else.
Or just disconnect every controller before the next match? Some ppl don't wanna play with a wire, so just manually disconnect every controller everytime. This should be mandatory practice every damn time.
@@riceyboi7069 So adjust for bluetooth users but not for hard connect players? We have seen the hassle bluetooth brings, time for hard connections now.
Should be like a MMA match. You go back to the same place with the same health and same remaining time. JDCR was going to win that game, very suspicious act.
Completely agree. There is no way to prove it which makes it all more more concerning as even if it is cheating(not saying it was), nothing could ever be done about it. With so much more money/opportunity on the line, it's going to be more important than ever to leave no room for cheating. Hopefully things like macro controllers, monitor "malfunctions", and other things don't come about as well.
he's not gonna pick a side as a content creator also a pro player~ look what Knee tweet after saying 8 is not fun, look what jdcr tweet after he felt hurt meaning someone told them to shut up.

I’m sorry but it’s too damn convenient that it happened exactly when AK was about to lose. It’s obvious that someone with or who supports AK did that on purpose. JDCR was cheated and this was an absolute disgrace.
It could be the other side that wants to ruin AK's reputation too tho, I'm pretty sure no one on AKs side would want to do something like that since he has already won one TWT
I don't get that rule. lose a round when you pause/interfere? Perfect rule makes all the sense. Completely restart the round when a third party pauses? makes no sense. It favors the player who was losing the round every single time. when the game is paused by a third party why not just resolve the issue, then unpause with both players holding back for 3 in game seconds? This is way less disruptive and less time consuming. Obviously still not perfect but at least it has less impact in time, mentality, and game-state.
@@uglyhorseteethbritsht just double checked, there were 19 seconds left when they could have paused, and even if it was 10 seconds why is that a worse policy then giving the competitor who was losing a 90% heal? whatever the policy it should favor whoever was winning not who was losing that's the point I was trying to make.
Hard agree, they should've resume the match right there after the pause. Sure JDCR lost his final oki mixup, but its way better still than to replay whole round with full health.

I don't feel bad for AK. No hate and no threats are warranted, that goes without saying.... but EVERYONE, including AK, knew he lost that match... and if AK ACTUALLY felt bad for what happened, then he MOST definitely should have given JDCR the win Every rule have exceptions. That's the PREMISE of what rules and laws are. And if anyone thinks rules are always 100 percent applied in ALL cases are sadly deluding themselves. Hence the online discourse right now going on about this travesty of a match. So I don't really feel bad for AK at all, he lucked out a win and is now qualified for the WORLD TOUR. I'm just curious, would this even be possible if they played on PC without bluetooth? I get that it can be hard to get enough PCs for a massive tournament, but at least for on-stream matches surely it could be possible? Big props to JDCR for his reaction to it though.
PCs for on stream matches only would also be bad competitively because the input delay is different from PS5, they really just need to do their jobs a little better and turn Bluetooth off
@@Eanakba Input delay is zero on PC, I would be in favour of a system that actually behaves closer to 'true'. It's only bad competitively if there's discrepancy between tournament systems. Either everyone uses PS5 or everyone uses PC. Somehow, somewhere by someone at some time it was decided that PS5s would be the standard and that we enjoy eating 2f of input delay. Does it have to be that way? I don't think so.
You can turn off the bluetooth on ps5 as well. Problem is it was not done here and it's not default cuz some idiots would rather bother setting up the bluetooth rather than plugging in a cable and even having a smaller input lag as a bonus
i was playing at a local con where they rent out controllers, and i saw this message from previously connected controllers connecting to new consoles. likely a previous player was connecting their controller to a new system.
Overall i think the resolution was a bit lacking, for JDCR. He got nothing in the end, the travels cost for other tournaments most likely would have been paid by his organization. Also, the need to redo this rule, as now this went from a best of 3 games, to a death match .They at least should give the option to the 'winning" side to chose if goes to the last round or redo the last game. But in the end is not an appalling resolution.
@@randomaether You cannot change the rules mid tournament. They were decided ahead of time and followed. You can change them for the situation but you cannot change them on the fly.
Similar to mma where the ref puts the fighters in the same exact position after calling timeout due to accidents, tekken devs should enhance and further utilize the replay feature that puts the players in a specific state and position based on a specific point in the match in case something like this happens, especially in big tournaments.
I'm not a decent Tekken player but if I'm right, at 23:24, JDCR could've extended the Hail Slicer string to reach the wall and kill Shaheen. The sad part is though, even if he inputted the follow up, the PS Home button was pressed a few milliseconds before the input was registered. Even as an AK fan, it really sucked it happened because if the PS Home button was pressed just a few more milliseconds, JDCR would have probably been able to kill and close the set. Things like this make me wish we make everything wired and turn off the bluetooth settings. This should be a lesson for TOs in future tournaments.
To add, even if the TOs are at fault, death threats and insults are not the way to give them a lesson. TOs already are working their butts off just to make players have a good, if not, decent time. If anything, be grateful that there are TOs that try to know their stuff and learn rather than TOs who don't even know crap and even mess up things. (Rev Major 2023)
I was so unbelievably bummed out about this whole situation for JDCR. I am certain that in that situation JDCR had the win before the controller prompt happened, the next hit in the string would have taken AK to the wall. I had little interest in watching the rest of the tournament after that incident as it felt so unfair for JDCR to have his victory (in my opinion) snatched from him. I've been a JDCR fan going on 8 years now and am deeply saddened for him by this situation.
There should be a feature in the replay mode that would let them both continue the set right where the foul happened. Replay control is already a thing so it shouldnt be too hard to do, and it seems a lot more fair than a complete redo
Woah that makes sense. Why have this replay feature if you cant reset it. Even being able to restart at 'round start' with the health modified, the Devs could do a lot to help elliviate this
HELL NAW: I'm glad JDCR has the Class to react that way but that MF whoever pressed that button fucking robbed the shit out of JDCR this is the biggest Robbery of all time I've seen in a long time. Fuck sake.
I wonder what "Helping JDCR travel to next qualifiers" mean. Will he pay out of his own pocket or something? or just cheer him up saying "GoGoGo! JDCR!"
Yeah this was absolutely brutal, I can’t possibly fathom why they chose to even replay the whole match at all let alone give them the same amount of health.
Think about the ruling this way: If somebody had physically jumped onto the stage and yanked JDCR's OR AK's controller out of their hands, because that's the same end result as the home button incident, the same ruling would have been enforced after security deals with the assailant. Does that still seem fair or feel right? I'm still glad JDCR and AK are fine with everything at least as they've probably dealt with dumber stuff in their careers and grand finals was ridiculous still.
@randomvideoboy1stop complying that ak was cheater he did well it’s not his fault that this happened plus happened every tournament this not t7 where people mad at super akouma gameplay
Not 10 minutes into the video, and I learned that counter hits have a specific particle effect, and that heat burst does less chip while opponent is in rage... you's a good Tekken-Tuber, Phi!
This is a dumb rule the other guy was clearly winning. Also if it wasn’t any of the players who caused the issue, why can’t they just continue the match? I mean we all saw kc jdcr winning. I mean ofc ak could’ve came back but he legit already got knocked down it wasn’t even mid combo. It would make more sense if it was earlier on in the match but Ak barely had health it was in jdcr’s favor. The commentator even said this is a last hit situation before the 3rd party interrupted. And ofc next round jdcr loses. Do only certain like major events enforce this rule ?I feel like I’ve seen it happen and I do recall some matches being restarted and some just continuing, but I never really thought of it much till now.
@randomvideoboy1 oh yeah definitely. I wasn’t even going to mention that, but that definitely plays a factor too. Another good reason to just continue the match as well.
Man. The moment I saw that happen my heart just sunk a bit. I had a pause button being hit happen before in a match, and it didn't feel good. It's super disruptive, and it hurts even more when you're in a big event right there on the big stage. This wasn't any of the player's fault though, so that makes it even worse. I hope there's at least no bad blood between the two because yeah, I wouldn't hold a grudge over something like that. Being robbed of a honorable match, whether you win or lose, never EVER feels good. All that being said, though, people sending death threats and threatening violence are out of line. Stuff happens, as long as we can move past it and compensate the players, that should be enough. Yeah, it sucks in the end, but what can you do, really. Not like hurting someone will magically reverse things or give your favorite a trophy. People should keep that in mind. As long as there's compensation, as long as the organizers own up to it and pay up, that's it. That should be enough.
I loved tekken growing up bc “mash button beat friends”, but never seen breakdowns of gameplay about it. Will watch tourneys as a casual. Always click your vids, just subbed, thank you for what you do bro!
Man this whole thing reminds me of Evo 2015 momochi vs Gamerbee, the literally last set of the tournament was stalled for a good 8 minutes due to an error , which completely killed the momentum that Gamerbee had going for.
Forgive my skepticism but every time someone receives push back or criticism for something stupid they always clam up and then say "wahh death threats". Then, when the community says "Oh my gosh that's horrible, can you please reveal to us the names of these bad actors so we can shun them from our community?" the reply is always silence. These claims of death threats and harassment are always used to turn the conversation from their screw ups to something else. Now suddenly THEY'RE the victim while we're supposed to believe that there's really this hidden cabal of FGC members with a sniper rifle out to snipe someone's head off to defend JDCR's honor. No. They fucked up. Just say "Hey guys, rules are rules and we're idiots. But we'll make this right. In addition to helping JDCR travel to collect those much needed points, we'll reimburse all his costs and compensate him for his time with an undisclosed monetary amount." Done. Pin that on your page to make sure everyone sees it then let your fans decide whether they still want to support you or not. Instead they went with "Uweehhhhh me receive death threats uweehh. Why haven't I gone to the police yet instead of saying it here in X formely known as twitter? S-STFU stop harassing me"
It's easy to say this until it happens to you. Even five messages from accounts with randomly generated names that fill your DM inbox. Someone DMs you your address. What do the police do with this info? They won't act. It's easy to brush it off until you have a family or other people you want to protect. The TOs owned up to it like you said to "just say." It seems so easy until you're in that position
@@PhiDX "Someone dms your address"- And did someone do that? As I said in my first paragraph, most of the time people who want to escape the microscope would cry "death threats" to shift the attention from one issue to another. Then, every time the community asks for receipts we are met with silence. Why not reveal the names of these bad people? If not to expose them then at least to expose that there is something bad that is really happening. By giving a blanket statement "I'm receiving death threats", he is putting a target on anyone who criticizes the perceived incompetence inside his company. I understand, as human beings we should have empathy and sympathy. You are sympathizing and empathizing with him because you heard he received death threats. But we should also question if it really happened because if not, then we're letting others weaponize our own sense of righteousness against us.
I'll just say this. After such a stressful set of matches, and going all out for the final round, JDCR (same with AK) really should've at the very minimum gotten a break to get his head back in the game. I can only imagine how stressed and demotivated he probably was after essentially winning the final round only to have to redo it and have your opponent get free hindsight into some of your plays. No disrespect to AK, but they should've given it to JDCR right then and there. He put too much work in, and pulled some amazing comebacks off in the previous rounds just to get it ripped from him on a technicality which neither player was responsible for. In situations like this, you just have to be pragmatic and think about what most makes sense, and redoing a final match that was at this much of a disparity in terms of health is just a feelsbad thing for the player whose doing better in that moment and isnt really fair to both sides.
If you watch the full video, jdcr 1st win Last round An outsider attempts to connect to the controller and a failure message appears. Is this a coincidence?
But why didn't they just continue the match from where it was? AK barely had any HP left, maybe not even a small poke before he would've lost. Why did they play the whole round again? JDCR was clearly robbed, and the victory should go to him. This seems planned. Look @ 14:09 when AK is about to lose that match. Again someone is trying to interrupt the match, just when he has low life left.
Because that's the rule. It's a dumb rule, but that's the rule they had for this tournament. Tournaments, at least big tournaments like this that have serious stakes, need to have better enforcement of people fully disconnecting their wireless controllers. Of course, the easiest fix would be to ban wireless controllers outright, but since that'd also include the default controller that comes with the console that'd be unfeasible. Every sport has incredibly stupid moments where outside forces combined with a certain rule rob someone of what would almost have been a sure win. I suppose video games are no different in that regard.
these tournaments just have to repeat, its insane how brainless these rules are, in baaz tournament knee was 1 round away from winning and the playstation went off and they replayed the match, its just insane, like what would have been the difference if they just continued, and they should make exceptions to this rule, like in this situation theyre far from each other, not like theyre in close distance and reading each other, so they should ignore their rule here but brainless people are brainless people
You’re right. It’s like in billiard when theres a foul. They don’t bring back all the balls back on to the table to start over. Just start from where it was left off.
So how do you calculate "from where it was" exactly? How do you replicate everything leading up to the anomaly? And i mean getting Dragunov and Shaheen to the same HP (and same gray health), same wall positioning, same heat gauge and at the exact second of the disruption?
@@ThisIsNotEdwardYT they can approximate it. Replay literally lets you play thru the whole thing. And it wasn’t in the middle of the combo or anything. AK was flat on the ground. At least they had to give some advantage to JDCR on restart. Like in basketball, they start near the basket when there’s an unintentional pause. They don’t reset the whole quarter and dismiss every score that was made leading up to the foul. Scaling this example to this match would be like. AK losing by 40 points in the last quarter with 5min left. Yea he can catch up but it’s gonna take a lot. Then someone throws a banana into the court and the rule says. Reset the quarter and all points made in that quarter.
Anyone saying that AK should've gave him the win needs to go look at the world cups prize pool. NONE of you would've gave up if you had even a sliver of a chance at that
When I was spectating at the event, the organizers took an incredible amount of time to enforce the rule of restarting the round/game like other tournaments. There was a lot of talking between staff yet at the end it took away someone's chance at a win. JDCR def wasn't super happy when this happened.
The match fixing allegations and threats that surround this incident really are terrible, not just because it shows insanely toxic fans are still a thing, but also because it's mostly from people that barged in the FGC from the KCorp ultra fan community that has never been reined in by the org. I'm thoroughly disappointed by the KC organization not putting a single word towards calming things, and the CEO has already said in the past that he's proud of having fans as devoted (and insane) as soccer can get. This is gonna be all that people will remember from this tournament, when there's truly been some great sets and everyone deserved the top spots as much as the others. None of these players need luck or match fixing to be where they are right now, they're all at the top of the game.
Super sad for JDCR, one mix away from qualification and that happens :( hope he gets another chance to qualify, the man deserves it after this daylight robbery
@randomvideoboy1 Speculation is pointless, so is 'choosing a side'. Also to imply AK is a cheat is a stretch unlike any other, the boy clearly has pride and I doubt he'd throw it away for a win (regardless of the stakes), ESPECIALLY after just having won T8s biggest major tournament to date
I still think its inappropriate to say "oh well those are the rules". How do we not know someone purposely tampered with the match? Turning a blind eye and ignoring what happened is only opening more doors for possible corruption if this was indeed on purpose
dang JDCR was just 1 more 50/50 oki away from winning of course AK could've gotten the right read and make a comeback but that would be super tough especially against JDCR either way sucks that this situation happened regardless
I mean the devs or someone should implement a feature where you can revert the match to a previous game state, so in this case mid combo like they do in league of legends when someone pauses. That'd be a pretty good solution to situations like these. I don't think it's as easy to implement as in a moba because of the nature of the game and of the differences between league tournaments and fighting game tournaments but realistically it's the best solution if that ever happens.
This incident between JDCR and AK was not the first occurrence of the event. The team should have reviewed the task list for desyncing controllers on the stage (this is usually a standard operations procedure for stage management at these types of larger events). However, this also means that the standard of excellence wasn't met just once, but twice. The first incident was for SF6 for the previous day (between the following players: triumph and shoes), but this is a big deal because top players were impacted. This was not a good showcase by the entire operations team as it showed not only a lack of accountability, but also the lack of urgency to provide the best tournament experience. If this was a single occurrence for this event, it can be forgiven. But it happened twice. This should have been reported on Friday as a known issue (and it was on stream, so the entire broadcast team was aware of this, if they weren't... this is worse than it looks) shows the incompetence and lack of equality towards unknown players vs known players.
YOOOO I just saw for the first time that there was already a controlller message in the second game when AK WAS ABOUT TO LOSE, this is super suspicious tho that can mean it was planned for sure even if AK was not involved in the planning
This really frustrated me a lot since I am waiting a long time for JDCR to be at the very top again and this tournament seemed so promising for him up until that point. It must surely have affected his mental for the remaining matches. Never seen have it be this dramatic, to have the match be interrupted in the last seconds of the match. JDCR was robbed in broad daylight. Very reminiscent of the online pluggers who quit exactly in the final combo that would kill them. I hope JDCR stays strong and manages to qualify for the big main event🙏
Small addendum/correction to 19:00 Fcdf1 from Drag isn't actually a high crush despite the animation for some reason, as soon as you input it from crouch he counts as standing
