Following a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in their final game, the Arizona Coyotes salute their fans at center ice of Mullet Arena. #nhl #nhlintrend #regularseason #nhlHighlights
This was the saddest day of my life. Losing the Coyotes, I wish the owner would've kept them here. They deserve better than this. Why would he have done this. He really shouldn't have sold them to Salt Lake City, not even in general
Really? They were playing in a small college arena. They were up for sale for over a decade... they have been propped up by the league for so long. They should have moved a long time ago (to Quebec).
As a kid I was absolutely obsessed with the Minnesota North stars. I'm 43 now I still haven't recovered, hockey has never had that special feeling every again. When the NHL does this they lose fans, and that bond 😔 it's sad
As a Houston Oiler fan, I feel for the hockey fans in AZ. As a Houston Texans fan I'd like to tell them it may take a LOOOONG time but the NHL will be back in AZ. Now, having said all that, let me say this. Yes, you had a crappy owner (so did we) but, had you voted for a new arena, this would not have happen. Lastly, as an NHL fan, let me say, NHL IN HOUSTON!
No government support, stingy voters in Tempe that would rather keep their toxic dump, the Phoenix Suns refusing to share their arena 4 years ago, a lack of community support and being more vocal about keeping this team, and numerous bad owners who only see dollar signs and a quick buck...that's what happened!!! With a sincere owner and the NHL being a little more diligent in their vetting process, Phoenix would be a successful franchise.
Sad to see them go but the fans need to show up and i assumed they did not enough and not when it matters other than weekends i assume and they reallg need to not play in a college areena and have a beautiful arena of their own, i know how you they feel though when i lost my beloved sonics.
It’s worse being a fan of a Canadian team knowing we have zero chance of winning the Cup. I quit watching hockey regularly last year after two decades of misery.
If you truly believe that the NHL is rigging it against Canadian teams so that US teams can succeed, then you’re truly a person of intelligence that is well below average and are entitled to no opinions regarding anything. Ever. Crybaby.
Its a convoluted mess. the Coyotes will officially remain part of the NHL until 2029 but as a deactivated franchise with no hockey operations, a new franchise is made in Utah, and if the Coyotes can secure an arena before 2029, they are reactivated as an expansion... (and the NHL will be forced to make plans for 3 more expansions after that) so they're not quite dead, not quite alive.
Expansion fees are way more than relocation fees. Why the NHL kept the Yotes afloat this long. Every time a buyer came in looking to relocate them, the NHL would pull back and offer the owner an opportunity for a new franchise. Then the owners would all make much more from their cut. The Yotes were chum for the past decade.
They couldn’t fill a 15000 seat arena for years then on the last game they fill a 4600 seat one and are upset? Am I missing something here? Seems to me like coyotes’ fans will do anything for their team except go watch them.
They go to the new team. Uncertain if the numbers retired (if any) by the Coyotes will stay retired in Utah or be restored (a la Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche).. Unless a nickname has already been announced, I would go with Gulls or GoldenEagles (both were minor-league teams based in SLC).
This is heart breaking moment for the fans. However, the fact is Arizona Coyotes should never have been given a NHL team in the first place. It not a hockey market. Garry Bettman expansion into the Southern United States has been a disaster for the NHL. Arizona, Dallas, Florida, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, San Jose, and Atlanta were given franchises over Canadian cities because of Bettman's ego. Most NHL teams are losing money. Salt Wake City is just the latest bad move by Bettman. Canada has hokcey markets in cities like Hamilton, Halifax, Quebec City, and Saskatoon..
All those Canadian cities you named have a combined population less then. Phoenix , not sure how you think those are better markets.. and thats a reason Quebec left for Denver.
@@mikefox181 he's Canadian economics isn't his strong suit. Of course 1/20th of the population will bring more money to the NHL because they are hardcore hockey fans, so they will all spend 200x what people spent in Arizona 🤣 keep crying Kyle, it will get you somewhere baby boy.
This was a mistake from the get-go....Arizona was NEVER a hockey town or city and the fan base was puke and couldn't care less and NOW people wanna cry and oh don't leave?? The coyotes were nothing more than an ahl team aka a minor league team...MISTAKE FROM THE START
@@Calvin-xp4qp The league is a business. They want profit. The Coyotes were not pulling their weight. By every single metric the league is better without them.
Cmon man have a heart. The Coyotes were a fun team even if they weren’t the greatest team with the greatest history. Their franchise may be gone but never forgotten
I can't on this one, been banging this drum for years. The fans could've bought tickets when they were struggling for years. Sooo many empty arena games. I don't blame them, with like 1 deep playoff run ever, but the thing is they really didn't have many die hard hockey fans. Go figure. Then the franchise didn't pay their bills, and expected the public to bail them out with a horrendous arena pitch. Just so bad at every level.
The league wanted the Coyotes to remain as is so they could attract new owners for expansion teams. The Coyotes were just shark bait. The Seattle owners paid $650 Million in expansion fees. Divide that up by all the teams in the league. Although I read that Ryan Smith said he paid just $200 million to relocate the Coyotes. You can see why the league preferred expansion.
Stop nobody cared about the coyotes when they were there now that they’re leaving everybody’s heartbroken. Give me a break hockey never belong in the desert anyway ridiculous. Those are the cold hard facts
