Can we stop acting like we're living in some fairy land? In Nigeria and most African countries, parental consent is very important in marriage. I do not agree with the Cole father but I say marriage is not by force. If the family you're marrying into strongly disapprove of you, I'll advice that you stay away. There's more to marriage than love. God forbid something happens to your husband, that's when you will understand the importance of acceptance

Yeah. Our African custom from southeast, west, north and south always play a role in our growing up and culture, which we can never deny. Why would an elaborate marriage be carried out alone in the bride's family without the groom's family? For me I can never be comfortable unless the marriage is done in a white man's land. The lady in question here shows desperation rather than cultural assent and understanding. In African culture, marrying into a family that dislike or disapprove you is like parking at owners risk.! What about your children's future in that family? I think the groom's family wanted respect and needed to do things in the right way irrespective of the circumstances "pregnancy or divorce with the groom's mother". furthermore, the way the father spoke still shows he has been in the boy's life and cared for him even his other child with another woman. In African culture, a mother does not give consent alone to marriage unless she has been granted custody earlier to the child. Then she can stand both as the mother and father on graceful occasions like marriage ceremony.

Family consent is important BUT why did the father have to give a press release to us STRANGERS!!! Every family has issues but washing your family’s dirty linen on social media is rubbish. There is whatsapp, text message, phone calls etc. He coupd have used that means to reach his friends and family. After all, all the other times he has communicated good and bad news to them it didn’t get to social media. Don't mind the Gen z. We are not Americans nor Europeans. African culture is complex, rich and deep. It shapened our lifestyle and upbringing irrespective of our tribe. Besides marriage is not by force especially if you are not accepted. I remember a story from a white American family that disapprove the groom's choice of wife, every Thanksgiving, they use to bolt the door against her and keep reminding her she's not part of their family, while other daughter in laws are welcomed in the father in-laws house not to talk of we Africans.

Shame? What is this 500 BC. A grown woman (Almost 40) and a grown ass man who is already a father himself and people are talking like they don’t have the capacity to make major decisions on their own. This is literally a skill that a person who might have a disability is taught to overcome. In Nigeria we are going out of our way to make sure we infantilize people so that we can keep them as “lazy youths” well into their 50s. Things can be spiritual o, the woman should go and pray and be double sure if this is God's path for her. Life is deep. You can't just be a surface person. Is there something more about this family that she wants to marry into. People don't say everything, until something bad happens. On this one o Morayo thank you because I dont know what the Nyma is talking on this matter. I'm so confused, "two consenting adults" is what has brought us to the mess we have now. God uses our parents as guide for us. I will have no regrets today if I listened to my father.I will not be divorced and have the trauma I have today from 10 years of horrible marriage that has destroyed 60 years of existence. Please stop interpreting what someone wrote or said in your own way, there was nothing in the letter that was said to target the woman This is not about Islam but commonsense. STOP THE NONSENSE, the boy didnt fall from the sky, and should know better. We will be here in 3 to 5 years to hear about them. They could have waited until they get consent, it's the Christian way and the traditional way to go about things. You pray and use people to work on your behalf to appeal your case and smoothen things with your family until they agree, At the most 3 more months, the father will succumb but no they rush - sometimes mostly as a result of manipulation/voodoo . It is well., We are where we are, in 2 to 3 years we'll see where we are and are going.

Why is Alhaja always uses this Muslim perspective to judge? Islamic norms are only for those who wanted to subscribed to them, they are nothing but Islamic culture.
