"Did Lori's have trauma: 38:41-43:03" I wanted to hear about that mom and dad of theirs (Barry and Janice Cox). First of all, there's something VERY off about Janice Cox...and Lori's cousin has said some really damning things about Barry. TALK ABOUT THAT, Adam. I have a feeling that Adam is trying to shield his parents. Barry and Janice literally raised Lori, and I have no doubt that there are some skeletons that would add great perspective to this entire situation.

My father was convicted of a double murder. He used my grampas gun from the war, came back to my grandparents house and turned the mud room into a crime scene trying to clean himself up. Very small town of Hood River Oregon, my grandparents, our family were well known in town. I’ve never gotten over the shock of my father doing that. He died in prison in 2001. Im still stunned and trying to understand. Edit: I do want to be clear that this is my biological father. We got away from him when I was 2, I was not raised by him.. I did go on to have a wonderful stepfather who changed my life forever. I lost him to cancer when I was 21 but he is still with me, 27 years later.. still guiding me and showing me real love from a father. 💜

Listening to Adam say I know their was more that Tylee wanted say. Tylee probably had the look of, I'm scared. I cringed when he said that because if Lori could scare that woman who testified about threatening to kill her, I'm sure she threatened Tylee. They got rid of Tylee because they were afraid that she would say something about what truly happen that day Alex shot Charles dead. Lori is a cold blooded killer. This does not make sense to me. What then is love? My mother walked away from all her children. She professed to love us. How could she? She didn’t know us and she abandoned each of us. She did NOT love us. It made her feel good to think for herself as loving us. I love my very difficult family. I maintain relationships with them. I care about them. No, no one has unalived anyone. I do have a brother who did something that I can not forget .. do I continue to love him? I forgave him .. but, I have estranged myself from him. Love him? I am not sure. Definitely something to think about. When someone does something so egregious; such a violation to another’s value system .. yea, it causes an internal conflict .. we have to choose which we value more. I chose to value the innocence of a child more than the bond of siblings. I can’t say honestly say I love or care about him any longer.

Something tells me there was foul play with Joe’s passing too! What is troubling for me with him being cleared of all allegations though as I recall an interview with Colby, who confirmed and validated the allegations were true, and admitting he was molested by Joe. To my knowledge, he has not retracted that admission or owned up to knowingly lying to support Lorie’s narrative. I suppose it may be possible that somehow she succeeded at manipulating Colby so that he actually began to believe it in being true or those things actually happened when they really didn’t, but he seemed to be certain in his statements supporting the allegations. I’d like to be confident in saying the legal system and authorities determined Joe was innocent and cleared him of all charges so he was innocent, but unfortunately it’s not a perfect system, and I’ve seen it determine the incorrect or wrong outcome in my lifetime as much as I’ve witnessed it being correct. It’s an occurrence far too often for me to give logic to it happening on rare occasion. Still, whether Joe was truly innocent or not, I’m not saying it would be understandable why Lori and/or Lori & Alex conspired and murdered him. If they did actually kill him, I doubt that truth had anything to do with Lori’s motivation, even if it did for Alex since he maintained that’s why he had conflict with Joe and tased him previously. I’m sure the money and power would’ve still been her motive , true to her pattern and m.o.

You hit the nail on the head Dr. John. There seems to be a lot of denial that runs deep in this family dynamic. Often times an abuse like Adam describes sounds like a family secret that possibly got swept into the closet. Older siblings can live a lifetime never really knowing their families true secrets. I've seen it happen in my mom's family. No one knew what my mom went through with a family member until after that family member died. Then the truth came out. So very sad for everyone involved. My heart breaks for all of them. My thoughts and prayers are with the familes. Early drugs, early marriage, abusive marriage, family alienation, all classic signs. Alex Cox's first wife Deborah went on record to say they divorced in part, due to his inappropriately sexual behaviour with his sister Lori. Alex would say Lori was 'hot', pick her up with her legs wrapped round his waist, and bounce her up and down, simulating sex. When Deborah challenged him about his creepy dynamic with Lori, he said it was a joke, and told her she was getting upset over nothing. She told him she wouldn't behave that way with a brother - and asked him if he would be OK about any children they had acting in the same, sexual way together. Deborah also said Alex and Lori's parents Janice and Barry would talk about their sex life in graphic detail in front of their adult kids. She was shocked and embarrassed - but none of the Cox children thought anything of it. I would like Adam to talk about this aspect of his childhood - and specifically, his brother and sister's strange relationship. It is surely beyond doubt they had a weirdly close bond, more like lovers than siblings. Alex was known as Lori's personal hit man - he hated her first husband Joseph Ryan, and served jail time for attacking him with a taser gun, and threatening to kill him (I believe he eventually did). As we know, Alex also shot her next husband Charles Vallow dead in an ambush when he came to her home to collect their little boy JJ and take him to school. Alex also joined Lori and her lover/husband Chad Daybell, in murdering her two children, and likely Chad's wife Tammy too (his cellphone was near the Daybell home on the night of her mysterious death). Alex own sudden death was extremely suspicious. He has spoken about being used by Lori as the 'fall guy'. Does Adam think his sister killed/had him killed, to take the rap for her crimes? As Adam has now launched this new podcast in the name of his murdered niece and nephew, I hope he is willing to be honest, and talk openly about some difficult subjects - out of respect to those two tragic children.

@@HiddenTrueCrime The laughter and sort of Happy Shiny Mormon Family affect has unnerved me throughout this family over time. It's off and misplaced. In their podcast, they say they do it as a coping mechanism with this dark story. But I see it as hiding heavy things, or secrets, behind joking and light banter and bizarre little family stories that seem to highlight the disconnect between family members rather than showing intimate or warm moments. Most telling was Adam and Uncle Rex both admitting they had not see your interview with Megan Conner. But Rex wanted to explain. And then he basically said 1. I love Megan 2. I don't need to listen to two sides 3. I think sharing is important for healing 4. I don't need to mediate and 5. I can just let Megan be Megan. It was bizarre and made no sense. It was so completely passive / aggressive towards her, and he rolls out his line about sharing being important for healing but I'll just let Megan be Megan. (implied: over there). Completely othering Megan. It was non-responsive word salad really, when a simple, "No, I haven't heard it yet." But even stranger was his smiling and his affect. Like THAT was his positive spin. Total mismatch between message and affect he's presenting. Complete red flag. Like Alex being the smiling, joking assassin. Like Janis Cox outright laughing and turning her head dismissing the idea that Lori is "brainwashed" and that Alex is the family assassin. Laughing while her daughter is in jail for failing to produce her children for a well being check, her son has died suddenly and mysteriously, and 2 of her minor grandchildren are nowhere anybody but Lori knows. But she can laugh and smile during this on her "knowing Lori is a wonderful mother." Completely off in her affect. I have never seen a family dynamic like this but strange and misplaced affect seems designed to minimize, distract and deflect and get people to stop trusting their instincts. I don't believe Lori changed in a dramatic way. I think she was on a trajectory and was enabled her entire life. Golden Child syndrome. And this family has a deep need to project fun, closeness and funny, cute family stories that quite frankly show how disconnected members are from each other. And laughter and smiling throughout is the thin veneer they use for a smooth finish.

Interesting Interview. I noticed cold anger on Rex's face when Lauren mentioned her interview with Megan Connor. That interview with Megan was insightful into the dysfunctional Cox family. Megan opened the door into the shady aspects of the family. Look at how the 2 men didn't offer any insight into what could of given Lori any trauma. So, when it was mentioned that Lori could of been abused by a teacher at school who was a known abuser, they have zero response. When Lauren mentions how terrible that was, they do not react at all. Seriously out of a family of 5 children, 2 are have committed multiple murderers. This is not an every day American family. While they laughed at Barry Cox being "spiritual" he did participate in upper level activities at the LDS temple. He spent time in jail for his refusing to pay taxes. I was reading a book that was published 2 years ago that recounted a high school friend of Lori's that wasn't named. This person recounted that Lori told her that her brother Alex was pushing her to have sex with him. Megan talked about that she felt uncomfortable around Barry Cox, he touched her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable. Megan said she was shocked when she first stayed with Lori's family, that they had much looser morals. Megan said that she wasn't surprised to hear that Barry and his wife were rumored to have a sexually open relationship, she noted that Lori's mom wore tight clothes and appeared sexually provocative. Megan also heard rumors that Barry had photos of children in a sexualized manner on his computer.

Thank you for these thoughtful comments, mtngrl! If their was cold anger on my face when Lauren mentioned Megan - that's my bad! I have no anger toward Megan - I've never had a reason for it. I don't doubt Megan's observations at all, I just didn't have the same experiences as she did. I believe Lori was abused by that teacher at school, and possibly by others. I have no evidence of that, so I generally don't weigh-in on that discussion. As far as this not being an every day American family - I'm with you 100%! I watched another interview with Megan after the verdict was read and she was deeply affected so she is still trying to process like you two are. While clearly everyone is deeply distressed by the mayhem of Lori, Chad, and Alex. On a deeper level, my thoughts have been on what created Lori's pathology. While its easy to understand why many are repelled by Lori, but I feel her foundational issues rest with her family. I'm not saying this to create pain, but more as a learning experience. If we are going to avoid further crimes like this, understanding is key. There are a number of recent killings of children and spouses that really touch on some disturbing elements in our society. My thoughts have centered what we can do as a society to help prevent these crimes.

Lori had big problems all her life..she was headed down this road but no one saw the signs or they turned a blind eye to her. She grew up learning how to be a skilled manipulator, liar and gold digger. She has always been a sociopath and Lori always does as she pleases no matter who she destroys. I pray she never sees the light of day again.

My biggest question is why didn’t, why couldn’t, anyone in this close, extended family confront Lori about her delusions? How could any of them see her behavior as sane or rational? 5 people are dead because of her mental state. I just don’t understand. I would fight like hell to help anyone in my family who was in a situation such as Lori’s.

I think it was because she faked it and lied about everything. Or, she cut off people and wouldn't let them in.

Adam did try to help her and his entire family took Lori's side and completely shunned him and his son. There's a recorded phone call between Adam and an investigator where he goes into all that. It's an interesting listen.

I might add that poor Charles, her husband, tried many times to alert family, law enforcement, friends and his own sister who he changed the life insurance policy and put it her name and out of Lori’s. And she tried to claim it after he was murdered. He was in contact with Adam due to her craziness and feared that something was about to happen or already had, as he approached his and Lor’s home just before he too was murdered by her and Alex. The police were not taking him serious and for some reason believed whatever Lori told them. Oddly enough , it seemed she had that effect on a lot of family and friends. They wouldn’t listen to Adam either. And she caused family to shut them out and never talk to them.

There’s no law against anyone having ridiculous religious beliefs and also a psych assessor cannot lock someone up for having weird beliefs. If they could- there would be a psych ward on the corner of every road instead of a church.

I listened to Megan’s interview. So far she may be the only blood member of this family that seems truly brave enough to really be honest about her family and herself. I do feel sorry for ADam and Rex for what they went through but I do feel Adam’s actions around Charle’s murder and after are questionable and because of that I don’t really trust him, at least not unless he addresses those issues with some honesty and forthrightness. They are both obviously too close to the family to discuss openly the family issues and it almost seems like they can’t even acknowledge Megan’s statements about the family (why-would they get kicked out again?). I just found that to be incredibly insensitive of Rex to say that he didn’t even need to hear what she had to say. I mean, she is talking about family dynamics that include her parents which include him and his siblings! And when it comes to this podcast, I don’t know if I agree with the concept-I just can’t agree with finding a silver lining to this, murdering people sucks in every possible way, Rex.

I feel very similar to you. I was quite offended by Rex saying he didn’t need to listen to Megan .. but he wants everyone to heal by telling their story. Well, Rex, you need to HEAR the perspective to allow the person to heal. And Adam.. why didn’t you call the police immediately. You knew Charles was in danger. If Lori and Alex had been arrested Tylee & JJ & Tammy would never have been murdered.

@jeannemarie5908 Devil's advocate here - Adam did say that him and his wife did try to get in touch with the police a few times, but they didn't get back in touch with him until 3 months later. The detective said that didn't happen. And we all know that in the beginning of this, the police did jack shit in this investigation. What if Adam really did try to get in touch with this detective, but the detective thought it was a closed car and didn't call him back until Kay started making a stink and shit hit the fan? I'm not saying that this happened, but from the way the police did everything to not move this case forward - I wouldn't put it passed them to try to cover their tracks and lie 🤷‍♀️

@lomoliving5528 The foia documents prove otherwise. Moffat called Adam over and over. The call you hear on youtube is Adam's call back to Moffat August 9, 2019, 29 days after Charles was shot dead by Alex, minutes after he was texting with Adam. Adam is lying

Rex didn’t feel the need to listen to Megan. “I like to allow everyone their own perspective; their own experiences, and their perspective from those experiences, including Megan.” “I didn’t listen to details because I knew I didn’t need to. I know I love Megan …” Wow. Just wow. Rex, you don’t even KNOW Megan if you don’t listen to how this tragedy effected her. You simply dismiss her. That is so very very sad. I hope she is not your daughter. You say you want to help everyone heal, but you don’t want to hear their truth. That is an absolute oxymoron. Lauren, “We are very much like both of you; We want to hear every side.” I think you and John want to hear and respect everyone’s truth and their experience of this tragedy, but I can not say the same for Rex.

Why can't I like your post more than once??? grrrrrrr She's not his daughter but what makes you think he'd treat his own daughters better? That was by far the most revealing statement he made. He "is fine with Megan being Megan", how disgustingly dismissive! Thank God, his magnanimousness "likes to allow everyone their perspective", I'd feel blessed if I were not disturbed.

Listening to Adam describe his new existence was so relatable. My sister didn’t murder 4 people, but my brother died unexpectedly 2.5 years ago and I still wake up feeling like Adam does. No joy. No desire for the things that once made me happy. It’s not just depression. It’s grief. He’s lost his world and his family as he once knew it.
