I have added a 4 foot extension kit to my CNC Router Parts CNC router table. It consists of 2 more legs, two 4 foot sides, and their accompanying linear rail and rack gear. There is also one more section of cable tray. The purpose of the extension is the allow me to make an adjustable vertical clamping surface so I can mill the ends and sides of objects.
Some of the tools used in this project

Cantilever Clamps: amzn.to/1TJmAFx
Milwaukee 18-volt Compact Drill: amzn.to/1sj855F

Those still frame animations never fail to crack me up. That little wobble of the table feet was classic! Few people realise how labor intensive that kind of stuff is. Thanks for continuing to share your work and passion through this channel.

As a few others have said, awesome that CRP has the foresight to send along a gauge to align the rack gear. Their attention to details like this is, from my perspective, a powerful sales tool. Cheers, --Joe

Seems like a straight forward kit. Looks like they did sweat the details, like including that bit of rack for alignment. Very nice.

I just wish they would have packages that includes everything. Went to their site "oh, the 4x4 standard kit for $3100".... doesn't include legs $500, doesn't include the steppers or controllers $1500, Doesn't include Limit switches $250, Doesn't include Router Mount...... and so on. Hard to compare prices when you don't know what's needed to get rolling. Granted it looks like a solid machine.

Hello Frank. When I worked for a machine builder the techs call the cable track "Cat Track" I never ask but I suspect it may have came from looking like Caterpillar tracked (or similar) vehicles. In any case I have more often than not heard it call "Cat Track".

This is gonna be the most random comment, but I just got finished reading that Wright Brothers biography by David McCullough and it's crazy to go from thinking about the technology level back then and how they had to carve their propellers by hand to, "hey here's this random guy with a computer controlled, perfectly precise wood carving table that literally anyone could buy." We've really come a long way. Those crazy mofos could've probably invented the airplane in a year if they had a CNC and 3D printer.

Just curios why you put the extension on that end of the table, as you are losing a lot of what you gained because your spindle in on the wrong side of the gantry.

Thanks for the video, I'm sure I'll add to mine eventually. But, any chance that you might add a rotary 4th axis? I bought one, and have been trying to figure it out with limited time to invest in it. Cannot find much online on adding it other than parts that said they did it. CNCRP sent a link that got me to a person who did it, the person sent me their plans for the 8020 setup they used without any explanation on how to actually include it in the post processor or Mach 3. You could add one to your machine and explain that process very well. I purchased the axis for about $350 from alibaba and it's a geared setup 100:1 so the holding torque is sufficient. I've seen that they added plasma and I got there updated touch plate with my order, but I cannot get any info from them about a 4th axis. I really hope they decide to implement one, but even asking if they have played around with one on their machines has gotten no response at all from email. I feel like I annoy them when I call. I just don't know enough yet to confidently do this without spending the next month deep into it and not getting anything else done.
@frankmakes
@frankmakes 6 лет назад
A rotary 4th axis is in the plan for this spring.
@MichaelWoodrum
@MichaelWoodrum 6 лет назад
frank howarth seriously?! Thank goodness. Hopefully the people at CNCRP heavily endorse this. It's a huge reason why I wanted to get into it in the first place. Copying details into multiple extravagant pillars is not an easy thing to do and I'm pretty much obsessed with getting things right. I cannot wait for you to do this. If you plan on purchasing one in a similar way to how I did, alibaba has a good deal on them. However the motors are a bit lower amperage and the stepper controller must have a jumper moved to change the the amperage. Easy enough and you could always swap the motor for aCNCRP one that's prewired. I'll send the link if you want me to. And again, thanks for the videos and good luck towards your 4th axis!

Hi Guys, I live in Belgium and even though it took some planning to get the heavy package here at an acceptable cost, I managed to put my hands on a CRP pro 4x8. I could not be happier with the building experience and the final result! Hats off to CNC Routerparts! I also went for a little extension. Not as much as Frank, only about 2ft. I use the extra 2 ft for vertical work at the very end (haven't experimented with angled work so far) and also to add a rotary axis. It took me some time to figure it out but as it turns out, it is not all that difficult. If you have questions, I will be happy to help out. I use Mach3 and for CAD/CAM, I am using Rhino3d/RhinoCam and Vectric. Greetz, Nicolas
