@ksourisadok8961 Aegon was a teenager who had little ambitions to be king, so he's not power hungry, and we have seen that before Jaehyras's death (I think that also messed him up a bit) he had sympathy for the small folk. He does have some good ideas, and the way he holds his council members, like Otto and Lyaras, responsinsible is actually a good thing. Maybe if his mother spent less time slapping him around and yelling at him, probably causing him to drink more, he would actually have made something of himself. I don't think Aemond's ruthlessness and vengeance makes him a good candidate for the throne either. He practically started the war.

@@ksourisadok8961 he had no opportunity to learn as a child. for one, he didn’t WANT the throne + otto nor alicent took the time out of their day to teach him anything. aegon was born for one reason, and one reason only and they (i do give alicent a bit of slack due to her circumstances but still) failed him at that.

Aegon didnt want to be king, Aemon helped them to put him at the throne and now he wants it.

Aegon the second died when he marched against his uncle. He was just 14 years old, so what gives you the impression that he knew any valyrian

Possibly. But depending on one’s proficiency in a language they may be able to understand its spoken form well enough yet struggle to communicate back.

@@Wolfenstein69924 I met a Spanish speaker somewhat like that back in university. She could speak it well but writing it was another matter. I don't actually know Aegon's proficiency level with High Valyrian, its possible, like you said, that he may have understood what was said to him but lacked the ability to communicate back in the language.

He's most likely a passive speaker. He can understand it, but struggle a lot of speaking it. Happens a lot in real life.

@@TheUrobolosI am the same way with Spanish. Most likely Aegon was taught the language as a small child but never had any inclination to use it or practice and so lost his ability to speak. It’s easier to RECOGNIZE the words as you hear them, but it’s much harder to REMEMBER the words you want to say in reply. Especially conjugations in stating things in past or future tenses.

True. Aegon himself told them to the face what kind of king he would be and begged them not to make him king. They dragged his ass to the throne and now they're irked by his kingship.

Otto and Alicent wanted someone who could be a puppet ruler for them. This is where a lot of Aegon's frustrations are coming from, he got forced into a throne he didn't even want and after he took it everyone either ignores or outright mocks him. I think that is why he pulled that little stunt later on, to try to prove himself to his family and council. Aemond would had been a much worse king for the greens. He is pretty much the green version of Daemon and is known to be extremely vengeful and cunning, not something they'd want in a puppet ruler.

Except in the long run, it's always better to have a clear headed fellow with a spine wielding the institutional power that comes with being the King. Aemond is far better suited. I mean even Aegon, with that power, threw Otto's ass off the Handship and even the council ... so much for muh pUppEt RuLEr, lol.

I think his mind did a 180 during his coronation in the dragon pit. Nothing could compare to looking on to thousands of people shouting your name and celebrating your rise. It is a sort of artificial love for sure, but it is love. And for someone like Aegon, who received little love from his family, it must have been so intoxicating he can't let it go after having a taste.

Aegon is only brave enough to press Aemond when he's drunk, LOL.

Still, I feel like idiot teen kings have, by tradition, lucid moments in this world. Remember when Jeoffrey told Tywin it was important to do something about Daenerys' dragons? Well, when Aemonf says "I need to be informed of these things if I am to make informed rulings" is a perfectly reasonable phrase from a king that struggles against his own huge incompetence.

Yes people seem to forget that Aegon ii is not joffrey baratheon, He could be a decent king even though in both books and show he did not want to be the king, Death of his child has forever changed him and will only turn him bitter.

I genuinely feel sad for him. He was neglected by Viserys, Allicent, his whole family basically. When he first becomes King he seems to have at least some idea of how to be a gracious King (the sheep guy) until Otto basically says 'we rich he poor so no food cheers king'. Then his child IS DECAPITATED. Yes he responds VERY poorly but, come on. Go to any John Wick Dog Scene video and see how many calls for blood there are for puppycide. And folk think that a man in a position of ABSOLUTE POWER, who has just had his child, not dog, CHILD, brutally murdered, would NOT react like Aegon? When they rounded up all the servants I actually thought he was gonna execute THE WHOLE CASTLE so he actually was less bloodthirsty than I expected. But then theres the big part - your comment. He says to his mother how he feels. That he feels useless, disrespected, etc and what does she say? 'Yep. You are. Just shut up and go drink or something.' And even then he doesn't just fly off. He drinks. And drinks. And stews. And stews. And drinks. All the while likely hearing all these voices in his head. His mother. Viserys. Etc. So he goes to the one creature that loves him. His dragon. The biggest most genuinely happy smile I'd ever seen on Aegon's face - when Sunfyre nuzzled his chest. Then he gets BLASTED out of the sky by his brother. Falls to the ground with his only friend squealing in agony. And what does Sunfyre do in her last moments despite her wounds? Curls her tail and broken body around Aegon, shielding him until the last. His only true friend. Only for (ok this is up for interp but) OWN BROTHER to draw his sword and consider ending his life. Aegon isn't a good person. He isn't an evil person. He is a goddamn TRAGIC person.

It’s really only spoken by people who descended from Old Valyria ie the Targaryens and maybe the Velaryons.

@@falloutla7137 Valyrian is still spoken in various dialects throughout Essos. Also Maesters used to visit Valyria before the Doom and collected many books, so Maester Orwele definitely understood what they were saying.

The Maestor in the room likely knows it because it’s spoken in old town where he would have studied

The Maestor probably can speak it since they study it in old town.

High Valyrian might be different from Old Valyrian. The same way Vulgar Latin was a common tongue for the Roman Empire while Classical Latin was written for official documents, but in this show High Valyrian is actually spoken while nobody ever really spoke Classical Latin.

But the maester might've studied Valyrian. Anyone can study it. Just need to live in Essos for a while or study it at the Citadel.
