can you tackle wide receivers without the ball ? 👀🏈
@anthonyjolly2066
@anthonyjolly2066 Год назад
NO! you CAN'T tackle no player IF it's a *backwards pass,(*meaning behind the line where the ball was before the play started),or a forward pass in American Football.That's a flag,the yellow cloth you see on the field.It's 15- yard penalty know as P.I. or Pass Interference.The team that has the ball gets what's called a 1st down and 4- extra chances to score a Touchdown for 6-points,or have kicker kick the ball for a 3- point field goal. IF the team gets close enough too kick one.In America it's called field goal range. 50 yards,or less.Some kickers in the NFL can kick the ball from 60-yards away.(*See Baltimore Ravens kicker shirt #9 Justin Tucker highlights on RU-vid)

Normally you can not tackle before the WR touches the ball without it being Pass Interference which is illegal. The exception is if someone else has touched the ball then you can make contact with the wide receiver before the ball arrives. In that case, you will see the ref swipe his fingers with the other hand indicating a tipped ball.
@captain_crunk
@captain_crunk Год назад
Sort of... Within 5 yards from the line of scrimmage, the defender can make contact with the receiver, but the defender must be careful not to commit a holding foul. This known as "jamming" the receiver at the line of scrimmage, and is meant to disrupt the route the receiver is trying to run. Essentially, the defender tries to impede the receiver as much as possible to limit potential gains down the field. After 5 yards, any contact made with the receiver is a pass interface foul - however there's usually a little bit of contact on almost every play, but the referees only call a foul when the receiver is obviously tripped up or otherwise hindered from making an attempt at catching the ball.

There are a lot of people who can't make it on a team. Nate has even said it himself. The NFL is harder when it comes to hitting. Rugby is harder when it comes to cardiovascular strength. The way rugby is played... the hits are no where near as big in American football. Those pads are there cause they would literally die with out them.
@captain_crunk
@captain_crunk Год назад
My little brother played high level rugby his last year in college. That's because he suffered a severe knee injury after playing 3 years of D1 college football. D1 college football is one league below the NFL. According to someone who has experience playing both at a very high level, he says rugby can't compete with football on any level. The players are much more athletic, the hits are way more violent, the pace is faster, etc. All that being said, he liked playing rugby a lot more, and I also enjoy watching rugby more. Football has an annoying cadence to the plays starting and stopping, where rugby flows much better. Overall, I prefer rugby, but had to say something about the physicality of the NFL - it stands alone as by far the most athletic and physically demanding sport around. Oh, to answer your question about the video... I don't think this one is very good. I think it might be better to watch a few specific players highlight reels and get a feel for one position at a time.

@ericgeil1586
@ericgeil1586 Год назад
You guys should look up the NFL's hardest hits. That is why NFL no longer wraps up tackles since players are trying to make highlight plays instead of doing the basic tackles. Also, in order for a catch to be legal you must either get two feet down in bounds or have one other part of the body besides the hand or feet touch in bounds for the catch to be complete. And until the catch is complete you are not ruled to possess the ball meaning it will not be a touchdown unless the ball is carried into the endzone or a complete catch is made. People think that American Football is soft because they use pads not realizing that at that level the players are basically using the pads as a way to hit harder. Hence many tackles in Rugby that are illegal are perfectly legal in American Football like taking someone off their feet to the point that their feet end up above their head.

@captain_crunk
@captain_crunk Год назад
Yes. This is a great example... As long as the player hasn't stepped out of bounds, all he needs to do to score is cross the plane of the endzone. Unlike rugby, the player doesn't actually have to touch the ball to the ground. You'll see a lot of touchdowns scored where the player uses the ball to knock over the orange endzone pylon marker, proving that the ball did in fact cross the plane.

You guys seriously need to stop reacting to the NFL if all you are doing is hating on it. A Lot of us here in the comments have been trying to educate you on our favorite sport but when you keep saying "it's easy","it's soft" ect it's starting to get annoying. You can watch a new sport without coming across as condescending. All sports are different and some sports may be similar (baseball/rounders, hockey/soccer, rugby/football) but the beauty of it is each sport has different types of strategies, physical difference, rules ect. If your goal is to belittle and bash a sport you haven't even played yourself then you are very ignorant and people will start getting turned off by it. Food for thought bro.

But not knowing the sport u made a lot of good points about it. Also the first play u show his body control was the athleticism I can agree there’s luck but 99.999% of the time they don’t stick the landing.

I couldn't agree more, a couple of those clips are just bad tackling, lol. The very first thing a kid learns when he plays defense is how to properly tackle: break down and wrap up. They're just trying to shove the running back down or out of bounds instead of jumping on him and wrapping him up the way they've been coached to do since they were literally children. 😂
@lewisshemery2585
@lewisshemery2585 Год назад
@7:20 you can't physically prevent the receiver from catching the ball. You can only tackle them or really put your hands on them after they make the catch. Up to that point, you can only attempt to intercept the ball or swat it away. The penalty is call pass interference. I think what you're missing here is how these guys make these plays look so easy. You say the run at 7:26 couldn't be done in rugby. That's Josh Cribbs, one of the best kickoff returners in history. He MAKES people miss. That's why he's so good. All those defenders are savages that came from top level colleges who selected them from top high schools. These are the best of the best getting paid millions of dollars to play. They don't miss. unless that guy. Have you seen how we dominate every single Olympic games? The most athletic people in the world are born here. These guys are the elite of the elite of the elite. I played American football from 8yrs old to 18 then rugby from 18 to 27. Football is definitely not soft, but neither is rugby. They are brutal in their own ways. Football is much faster and more violent. You get hit wayyyyy harder and way more recklessly in football. It hurts a lot more. Football players are genuinely trying to injure other players. There are definitely hard hits in rugby, but it's lot more form tackling, not wildly throwing your body head first at the opponent like football. Rugby is more technically skillful, you have to be in much better shape, and you have to have a wide variety of skills. I played lock so I had to know all the scrum stuff, lineouts/lifting, kicking, mauls, rucks, and a bunch of other things. Football's positions are much more specialized and each player has their own, very specific role in each play. With football, it's all about execution and play calling.

At 1:12 in the video, watch closely and you will see Chris Carson uses his right knee to propel himself into a front flip in order to complete his hurdle over the defender. Extremely athletic, but you said it was luck. At 11:04 to 11:20, the point is that Larry Allen, who was 6'3" 325 pounds, had a 700 lb bench, 910 lb squat, ran that fast to track down the guy who intercepted the pass.
