What do the people who make so much money off of Africa know? How do they do it? how can i replicate it? what can i learn from them? Complaining gets you no where and thats the truth. In theory, I support everything Akon is doing in Africa in general and Sénégal specifically with the development of Akoncity. There's a lot of controversy around where his money is coming from and how much control he will really have with that development in Sénégal. Considering the Sénégalese government had to sign off on this deal, rest assured that the Chinese will not have nearly as much control as many conspiracies allude to. That said, much of Akon's rhetoric as it applies to Black Americans and them returning to Africa is reckless and irresponsible. You have to watch the entire video these clips came from. Black Americans DO NOT have some natural resistance to malaria, typhoid, yellow fever, etc. Hell, even indigenous Africans don't have it. Millions of Africans on the continent die from these curable diseases every year. Well, malaria is not curable for now but there are pills you can take which have major side effects. Americans in general have weaker immune systems than continental Africans because of the food sources in the US. The food is overly sanitised and hormone-induced. This weakens the body's natural ability to develop its own defenses to certain viruses and bacteria. This is why when Americans travel to the continent they have to be very careful and take every precaution within their power prior to coming. There's nothing wrong with taking that approach and that's why I take issue with things Akon is saying in regards to that. Where he's absolutely correct is that Black Americans, Caribbeans, Afro-LatinX should come and visit the continent for themselves and potentially invest in businesses if not move there themselves. However, this is NOT for everyone and that's what Akon doesn't address. Black Americans are not a monolith. There are plenty of Black Americans who will never leave the US and have no desire to do so and that's okay. Let's not beat on those who feel that way. For those looking to move to Africa, leave your saviour mentality in America. You will find very quickly that will get you nowhere on the continent. Come learn the culture of the place you decide to leave and do business, understand it's not the US, and business transactions are done very differently and keep i mind the remnants of colonialism remain everpresent throughout Africa especially in the Anglophone and Francophone nations. I can tell you now, this will be foreign to you and will turn you off. You must look past it and stay focused on why you're there. The colonial mentality while similar is not the same as the slavery/Jim Crow mentality. They have very different ways of expressing themselves and if you come to Africa with an American-styled anti-White man mentality many Africans will reject you. Sorry for the length of my comment but I say these things to inform not to say you should accept or reject anything. Just not, you will come to Africa as an immigrant, not as a local. These are the things Akon is not saying but needs to be said. I wish you all the best in your journey. Africa needs its sons and daughters but its sons and daughters also need to come understanding the realities of Africa and not come expecting the romanticised fantasies they may have.
