or how Brad reviewed lots of movies titled Zombie(insert number).Including one whose alternate title was made up by a fan on IMDB just to trick him into review it.
MrTomFung Also, that cartoony grin and frowns are too much. We get it, he's the villain! It's like the movie thinks that we we're too stupid to get that!
+Eddie Palacios Now it makes me wonder if both Aladdin and Old Man are on the same Arabian sex offender registry, between Aladdin priding himself on breaking into bathhouses and Old Man going all “you won’t believe how many times I got sent to jail because I saw someone’s door creak open and I assumed that it was an invitation! Hur hur, I’m an idiot!”
I'm pretty sure he improvised those lines. I just don't want to give Goodtimes any credit for funny lines after seeing which snoozefests they came up before. XD
Tbh sassy aladdin raised a good point. What kinda person comes up with such a strange execution method. It's like one of the writers (if there are multiple) were even confused on the idea of it lmao.
I remember one Genie story where it was told that Genies actually can't grant magical wishes. Certainly they are obligated to grant you three wishes, but that they actually use their vast fortunes and moderate magical powers to make it happen. So if you wished for a palace the Genie would either teleport one of its own palaces there, or it would have to build you one brick by brick. I always found it interesting as a concept.
the crazy thing is this movie has a lot of voice actors that did the voices of all the animated shows we grew up watching loving it's a miracle they even got paid doing this movie
I have to admit I was a bit weirded out by the fact that the Sultan pretty much admitting that he would execute anyone who questioned him. Those are the words of an evil dictator and the movie is treating it like "Ohh, that's our sultan!"
@@The3y3 Even in democratic countries the IDEA that you should be allowed to question authority figures was quite uncommon until (historically speaking) relatively recently (well... ok not THAT recently... What was it? 200 years ago when it started to gain actual ground?). . They would say, if you criticized a judge for example, that you are harming people's faith in rule of law... That "For the good of society" or "For the public good" you need to be punished. (you can still see elements of this today).
That theme song is actually... Kinda catchy. "Watch the movie, Phe-e-e-lous! Open your eyes and see-e-e-e! Rate the movie, Phe-e-e-lous! Then throw it out to sea!"
Aladdin's mom's got a point: wishing magic is dangerous AF. There's as many stories about wishes becoming curses as ones where they're good. Teach your kids to just say no to people granting wishes. Esp. cute bunnycats.
That... just sounds like the voice acting career in a nutshell. Not that I wish to imply that VAs are generally desperate for money or something just as rash, but rather if they're given a role to voice (a job, if you will), then why would they turn it down? Besides which, it gives them a good story to tell at some convention later.
8:05-8:13im pretty sure the exchange between cam Clark and the director right before cam entered the recording booth and they started recording went something like that☝️......😆
I propose King My God's name should be misspelled as King Maigad. It's a made up name that sounds vaguely Swahili/Sanskrit-ish so it's perfect for ripping off Mufasa even more! XD
I remember always listening to the audiobook of this. Jafar was called Haseem, the Cave of Wonders was a camel made of stone and Haseem was defeated by falling out a window. Hey, isn't falling from great heights the most common way of beating a Disney villain?
The singer clearly just wanted Aladdin to rub the vessel full of viscous fluid to send him on a sometimes scary, but enjoyable journey of discovery that ultimately leads him to pay for the companionship of a woman he has no intention of conversing with. What could be perverted about that?
I agree with Phel, I think all of Cam Clarke's roles in Good Times films were designated to be whiny little edgelords XD Though Aladdin's character here still has nothing on Jessie from Miracle In Toyland..
Just once I want a version of Aladdin where it's a monkey's paw type scenario or one of those evil genies so like if Aladdin wished to be rich, a giant sack of gold would appear followed immediately by the guards saying he robbed the palace or something.
I did see one where the Genie didn't have many limits and eventually the owner of the lamp essentially became the ruler of the universe and was essentially a cosmic ruler. It is like a monkey's paw except it backfires on everyone else but the person making the wishes.
Even though their movies aren't overly great, I always find something kinda charming and nostalgic about Good Times' stuff. I don't recall ever watching any as a kid, but the animation just reminds me of things I would have rented. Just makes me kinda happy seeing it in motion. When things were simpler and happier, ya know?
Oh my God! THAT’s where the orange genie is from. Some context. I used to live in Africa. One thing that’s really common in Africa is people sell pirated movies all the time. They’d often do 5 movies on 1 DVD. I was really young and me and my siblings begged my parents to buy a 5 in 1 movie with Aladdin on it. The DVD cover had the blue Robin Williams genie and everything. We put the DVD and that orange puke shows up. It was so distressing. The dumbest part was they had Disney’s Aladdin and the King of Thieves with Robin Williams on that disc too. It was truly shocking even by pirated movie standards. I’ve held a deep seated contempt for that orange goon. I’m so glad Phelan tore it apart!!!!! 😀
12:22 I'm going to be honest, I really love this line. In fact there are a bunch of lines from genie AND Aladdin that legit got a chuckle out of me. this version is such a weird hodge podge of self awareness and storytelling beats such as a mundane climaxes. Add in the tmnt voice actors and you got a commendably odd take on Aladdin. It looks like it could be at least a fun one time watch.
Sadly, I saw this version as a child in the 90's. I have had the stupid theme song stuck in my head for the past 25 years. Every time it pops into my head, it's like a waking nightmare.
How much do you want to bet that originally they were going to have the genie narrate it, and they switched it to bathhouse guy (who shows up once, and is never mentioned again, almost as if he was added at the last minute) to avoid Disney suing again?
I bet 0 Credits! Besides which, Disney's version of Aladdin starts off with a salesman telling us the tale of Aladdin. And he was _neeeeever_ seen again in the entire film.
I watched this movie and honestly was amused by Aladdin's sass, then right after watched the Disney one, It was so jarring because of the sudden change to smooth animation and movement
I watched the shit out of this movie when I was younger. Yeah, for some reason my parents did not want to buy Disney's Aladdin, so they bought this instead. I also had a classmate who was more than willing to let me borrow it, but my parents refused. lol
Cam Clarke also voiced Aladdin for Disney's Aladdin Activity Center on PC, released two years after the Disney and Goodtimes movies. Notably, he overdubs all of Scott Weinger's lines in the movie clips (but not singing voice Brad Kane's singing for the "A Whole New World" clip).
Aladdin: "Hey, mom. I flouted your prohibition from gazing on the princess and broke in to the bath to perv on her, totally risking getting caught and executed. Now I want to marry her." Mom: "Lol! Oh, Aladdin. You so funny!"
The funny thing is that I was playing D&D the other day, and one of the monsters actually DID fall on his own sword and impale himself. He rolled two 1s in a row.
That version of "Aladdin" feels so much like a DiC cartoon, even though they weren't involved (though one of the overseas studios involved, K.K. C&D Asia, used to be a Japanese subsidiary of DiC.)
"Like, zoinks! First Scoob gets turned into teriyaki on the Great Wall, and now I'm enslaved by the Sultan! The guys were wrong when they said solving this time-travel mystery was a good idea!"
I got a chuckle from Aladdin not sure if he should turn around when he hears the genie introduce himself from behind. "Do I really wanna see this...?" He's just not sure if he's ready for more madness after an already mad day.
'Rub the Lamp' from Aladdin was a very catchy song, I actually enjoyed the Aladdin movie and thought it was the original Disney movie everybody talked about, so when my friend went to sing the Aladdin song at our schools talent show I thought she would be singing the song from the Goodtimes film, when she sang 'A Whole New World' I was so confused! 😂
Fun dub fact, The swedish dub has: Swedish Donald Duck as Aladdin. Swedish Bart Simpson as Layla ( Jasmine ) and Swedish John Smith as The Genie. Oh.... and Swedish Sonic & Tails as Jafar(t) and the sultan. And all of them were also in the Disney series. ( The girl who voiced Layla also voiced Sadira )
Kiara Thompson A couple of days ago, a document was released by the name of "not so awesome". It was a compilation of former tgwtg/channel awesome reviewers and coworkers opening up about some, imo, really bad and damning stuff that involves the "management" of CA. Alisson Pregler was a co-writer. She and Phelan left over some real sloppy people's management on the part of CA. But it only gets nastier from there. So anyway, "we" (the former watchers of Channel Awesome) are pretty riled up about it.
For a cartoon directed at kids in the 1990s, this is pretty intense... three deaths within 45 minutes. O_O Still more true to the original story than the Disney version.
How old is this Channel? It's so freaking underrated that it reminds me of The Report of The Week! I hope it blows up as well! Keep up the good work Phelous!
OMG GOODTIMES ALADDIN!? I had this as a kid! I also had this weird Little Mermaid ripoff that was possibly asian, her name was Serena, and she totally dies at the end of the movie....
It's actually kind of amazing that Goodtimes got so many of the "go-to" LA voice actors for the Golden Films productions. I think they even got Barry Gordon (who was also president of the SAG at the time, as well as having done both live-action and voice work since the mid-1950s) for Beauty and the Beast.
8:48 I like that Phelous can apparently believe that a jinnie inside a lamp can grant wishes and that adolescent turtle humanoids can survive in a sewer eating pizza, but a cave with a magical sky is too much for him to believe
Suspension of disbelief has limits and rules to it. If set up properly (like the turtles in TMNT, or the genie in most tellings of Aladdin), it can be accepted. If something is randomly thrown in that's never been there before (such as the magical sky), it's harder to accept.
I understand your point, but this movie already had magic spells and rocks shaped like camels. Plus, it is supposed to be a magic cave, so there's nothing really farfetched about it
Yeah, but even magic needs to make sense. Magic without rules is broken and boring. There would need to be a reason for the sky and wildlife to exist in the cave beside "IT'S MAGIC! don't think about it. LOL".
Phelous, just wanted to say thank you so much for having such great content all these years. No matter what, I'm always entertained by your videos and always look forward them...especially when you do something connected to TMNT...like this one through Cam Clarke. So yeah. Just felt like saying that...and I know you don't hang on the Technodrome forums much, so decided to just say this here. As for this version of Aladdin...wow. Seemed a bit all over the place, but doesn't seem as bad as other Goodtimes films. I think I would've enjoyed this genie, oh and when Aladdin was like, "Who comes up with this stuff" or whatever after hearing the camel stomping death threat, had me wondering if that was actually in the script and not Cam just saying that after reading such a silly thing. lol
OH MAN, I actually have that version on video, my mom bought it some time when I was a kid. Still nice to see that this was at least one of the less BAD Aladdin ripoffs as the Genie at least played well and had some genuinely funny lines.
YES! I've been looking for this one for a while! Goodtimes: Makes the animation of the Disney TV show look as good as the film Agh. The opening song..... "Apparently 'touch nothing but the lap' is more of a suggestion" Old Man has met his match! I can see why the Disney version cut out the mom from the final draft... Yikes. This Sultan's a lot more evil than the one in the Disney version 13:24 LOL Jasmine: "I am not a prize!" Layla: "I am totally a prize" 21:40 This is what we call "rolling 1 on your attack roll twice"
I remember this movie from my childhood. Some of the voices of the German dub haunt me to this day because some line deliveries have to be heard to be believed. Ali in particular has some of the most hilarious dubbed lines I've ever heard.
Ridiculous, but I admit, it's kind of novel that his mom is a character and he's not relying on the genie for everything, even if it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
