Alicent and Rhaenyra are at the heart of the conflict in House of the Dragon. In House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 3 The Burning Mill Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen sneaks into Kingslanding to meet with Alicent Hightower. I loved the scene and I thought it was completely necessary for both characters to come face to face and confront the issues of the heart before this war begins, because once the dragons start dancing there is no calling the back.
This scene also had fans stating Rhaenyra was being painted heroic, while alicent was being vilified. But the truth is this scene is proof that neither of them can stop the war, and while they both have love in their hearts for each other, to much has happened. The child in both of them is gone, after this scene. What did you think of it? Thanks for Watching!

For real! I like this scene for the great acting & "television" purposes but for practical purposes this is worse than Ned not telling Robert about Joffrey. It doesn't make sense for smart characters to make such dumb decisions. It was way too dangerous for Rhaenyra, the Queen, to go to King's Landing.

Because she had been saying for years that Aegon should be king. I mean why are people forgetting that scene after the time skip, where adult Alicent tells Aegon that one day he will sit the Iron Throne. Basically she already wanted to usurp Rhaenyra so she didn’t need Viserys’ blessing. She was already convinced long before he was bedridden 😂

Bc what do u mean, rhaenyra just walked into KL? I had to rewatch to fully enjoy the scene and appreciate it for what it was, but the circumstances it came to be were incredibly... It's stupid, the whole premise is stupid. Alicent should have actively put Aegon on the throne because of her own motivations, not because she misunderstood a dying man's mumbling. Aegon's claim is suposed to come from the fact that he is the first born son, not from a play of words between two people with the same name.

It's silly if some can't enjoy the show, just because others are critical of it. People aren't "haters" because they dislike something or "simps" because they enjoy it. While I don’t agree with her, having seen everything that has lead her to this , I don’t blame her. I get why she’s doing these things. I love how even though so much has happened between them she still has Rhaynera’s back in her own way (doing everything she can to avoid Rhaynera being executed). Ps. I’m also happy for her having found someone that she finds attractive please her instead of just using her as a baby making factory.

Bad changes are this Rhaenyra and Alicent scene and the the decision to write out Aegon's son Maelor. By they ARE in the books, sorry guys and gals. They made the blood & cheese plot stupid(why the hell would Daemon send one rat catcher and one goldcloak to kill Aemond freaking Targaryen??? HOW would they?) and now they are fucking up the dynamic between the two women. I hope they don't fuck this up because the Dunk and Egg show won't have any viewers at all.

What did I think about that scene? Mostly, that it smelled of writers who wanted that conversation to happen. I was kind of expecting it to happen at some point anyway, perhaps later in King's Landing when... spoilers! As for agency... you did agency for Alicent fine, but my... Did Rhaenyra had agency, and then some. Her uncle takes her for the night on the town - and I have somewhat different interpretation why he did it: his brother showed him love and respect for once, he tried to reciprocate by convincing Reny that marriage for Targaryens doesn't have to be that bad, as she was kicking and screaming against it. But then she sees some people having sex and what did she do - jump on her uncle and kiss him, hard. Daemon didn't initiate that. In fact, respect for a man to show as much restraint as that Targaryen did. And, when she swore to Alicent that Daemon never touched her - it really was true, it was Rhaenyra touching Daemon, well for the most part. Not to speak of Crispin. There's more, but let's skip to this season: Reny specifically sent Daemon to kill Aemond - watch that "I want Aemond" scene again, and pay attention where people are around the table and at whom she fixes her eyes when she makes that demand (in a "show, don't tell" way). Daemon, no one else. Also, Daemon wasn't at Luce's funeral. She'd be pissed off about it, only she knew it was her that sent him on that errand. It goes south, then - it's Daemon's fault. Perhaps if she read the bloody letter when it came, headless kid would still be alive.

I liked this scene, if they hadn’t had this conversation it would’ve felt unresolved. Now we know for certain that Alicent knows but it’s too late and Rhaenyra knows her father didn’t betray her or the oath. They set this up in the first season and needed to address it to prevent the chekhov’s gun failing like all the plots that were abandoned in GoT creating so many holes in the story.

I rarely, if ever, comment cuz I usually don't feel like anything I have to say actually adds to the discussion. I'm a simple book reader and show watcher and I don't make theories or have any degrees in literature so my role is total spectator. That being said, I do think you're the GOAT in the realm of ASOIAF content, and I'm so happy that you made this video. I very much wanted that scene between Alicent and Rhaenyra. When the show gave us that scene, I felt like it was done for me (that and everything with Harrenhal felt like it was for me, lol). But then all week I've only heard people complaining about it. The best takes have been that it wasn't the worst thing but not liked. I loved it, I think it was necessary, and i think it was well done. I think that Alicent never truly believed that Viserys had changed his mind. She wanted her son to be king because, well, "what mother wouldn't?". Faith is however a big thing for Alicent, and she clung to her holiness by convincing herself that Viserys' delirious words on his deathbed meant he now wanted Aegon to succeed him. She took that and RAN with it to justify her actions and retain her integrity (which has been shattering for years anyway, as she becomes more of a hypocrite each passing day). But in her heart, she knew that Viserys was a girl dad. She's just too headStrong and needs a justification for her support of Aegon and absolve herself from the terrible consequences of that. I used to defend Alicent myself, and still kind of like her, but she's becoming more and more vicious.

I also agree with you, Alicent's misunderstanding of Viserys' last word would not have mattered. Although Alicent was having a change of heart on Rhaenyra pre-Viserys' death, it's been years that the Greens have been preparing to take over. The Hightowers had been ready, and Criston (kingmaker) was ready to place Aegon on the throne post-Viserys's death. They just appeased Alicent with 'sure, whatever Jan' when Alicent was talking about how Aegon was the rightful heir per Viserys' deathbed's statement lol. Everyone with eyes could see that Aegon was not ready to be King at all, was indulgent and reckless. Welp.

I think there is a difference between Robert Baratheons children and Rhaenyra's children. Robert's children are not his children, the are Cersei's and Jaime's children, and he did not know it. So they are not the blood of the king. Rhyaenyra's children are her children, and they have the blood of the queen. Any king can legitimize his bastards, and Rhaenyra (and Viserys before her) legitimized hers. Sor they are true descendants of the ruler. Robert's children with Cersei are not.

Exactly. Rhaenyra's bastards continue the royal Targaryen line but Cersei's bastards end the royal Baratheon line. And this makes the two situations completely different politically.

I especially loved the look on her face in the very last seconds of the episode. Emma D'Arcy is such a great actress/actor, you can really see the confidence in her face, and that Rhaenyra is definitely ready for war now. Only a few more hours, I'm so excited about the next episode

The scene made 0 sense Alicent could have had Rhaynera captured, tortured and killed
@MollyGermek
@MollyGermek 53 минуты назад
"And what happens after that?" Alicent herself literally pointed out the futility of making a scene over the whole thing. The war doesn't end just because Rhaenyra is captured or killed. And secondly, Rhaenyra is there to offer peace in a sept. Alicent is pious enough that, that sort of thing matters more than the rational solution of taking a piece off the board.

It’s scene is more respectful for both of them in their journeys What’s coming? Is going to be tragic dance of dragons and the death of dragons

I did think it was a bit contrived & unbelievable, but I love the scene itself I wasn't a fan of the "misunderstanding" being what drove Alicent to want to crown Aegon, I thought it took away some of her agency & whitewashed her character. But now she doesn't have an excuse. She may not have the power or ability to go back or stop the war, but now she has to go forward knowing she's responsible for what's to come & can no longer claim it's for anything but their (team Green's) own ambition Which makes it better story, imo, because as we all know, "the only thing worth writing is the human heart in conflict with itself" : )

@@TheAegis1000 I agree, but now she can't lie to herself about it anymore. She has to own it, and I think that will maker her character more interesting going forward

I love that nyra went into kings landing to talk to alicent. It shows how far nyra was willing to go to avoid war, she risked her life in order to meet with alicent. And now alicent can live with the guilt of her mistakes and nyra now officially knows war is inevitable

It didn’t bother me. It made sense with the direction the show is taking. I thought it was a brave and honorable move for Rhaenyra. I don’t hate Alicent, she frustrates me and she’s certainly hypocritical. She made terrible decisions.

i think its a cool idea to give alicent the awareness of the aegon/aegon mix up. its interesting to give her the knowledge that we have as readers/watchers

The scene just rehabilitates Rhaenyra, which is one of the problems with the show. I enjoy the GoT universe more when the audience can pick teams and be making a good decision no matter what. There are good reasons to be with either camp. But, for example, I always thought Daenerys was a terrible person; the show kept pushing her as a heroine. I was like, did you not see her crucify people? Bend the knee, bend the knee, bend the knee? Sounds like certain US politician to me…😂

Why can’t people critique a show? How does that effect your experience? If you love it great. Some people don’t and that’s fine too. You sound childish as hell. And that shows that you know the complaints are right but you are so deep into this fandom that you want to just not hear it.

I loved the scene, but I thought Rhaenyra’s Assassin’s Creed mission to King’s Landing was very risky. People sneaking around in this show has become a little comedic so I hope they don’t keep repeating this.

I don’t hate on the show. But once again taking liberties w h the storyline gets very annoying. Having them meet muddled the storyline. Because it’s pointless. It’s just a filler moment that changes nothing. The war is still to happen. Oh no we can stop this. Now we know you made a mistake. Your son Aegon wasn’t who viserys was talking about. Meh it’s to late nothing we can do. Pointless moment. Didn’t needed. It was better left alone.

I like the scene. I think the question of timing is more problematic. I think it needs to happen earlier. Fire and Blood are not point of views they written by third person and these viewpoints are either pro or against Allicent or Rhaenyra.
