Hengeli rasboras - also known as Glowlight Rasbora - are some of my absolute favourite fish. They are tiny, just 2.5 cm from nose tip to tail tip, making them one of the smallest fish you can keep in your aquarium and yet they have huge characters and don't really seem to understand just how small they are. They are brave and curious, sometimes dangerously so, and always entertaining. Possibly the Perfect Nano fish.
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
My filming stuff
Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.

Put a sponge filter sponge (minus the inner plastic tube of course) on the end of your canister filter inlet. It will save your small fish and give you some bonus filtering. I have a 90 gal planted tank full of nano fish and this has served me well.

CUTE little fish! I'll have to keep an eye for them when I get ready to set up another nano tank.

I think the scientific name for the Glowlight Rasbora is TRIGONOSTIGMA HENGELI while Trigonostigma Espei is the lambchop rasboras and both of them are sold under Hengeli Rasbora in shops.

It seems I have Hengeli rasboras! Mine were sold to me as Copper rasboras but after seeing your video I believe they are Hengelis. Thank you for helping me identify my fish

Wow, lovely little fish. I've only had my 160litre aquarium since August 22 but am really enjoying the hobby and you are my go to channel for new fish ideas. I have recently purchased 6 harlequin rasbora and they are lovely to watch and get on well with my mountain minnows, zebra danios, peppered Cory's, hill stream loaches and amano shrimp. I have a pest snail issue at the moment, a bit frustrating because on one hand it's life working away but on the other hand, wow they don't half multiply fast 😲 so yesterday I bought two candy loaches, I wanted the zebra loach but my local shop didn't have those, any who, thanks for these vids they're magical and I'm already thinking of a second aquarium 🤷🤣👍❤️🇬🇧.

Check how much food you are feeding . I only feed my fish once per day mostly in the morning . But it depends on the type of fish. Should keep those snai number's down😃

@@thomaskelly3578 cheers, I'll start feeding them less. 👍

Just to add - don’t panic too much about snail number explosions, or at least don’t try to use chemical or anything to control them. I find in new tanks their numbers increase rapidly as they feed on diatoms and such but as the tank settles over the months and especially if you have even just one plant taking up nutrients. The snails will soon run out of food, the excess will die and the remainder will find their their own equilibrium in the tank. But this does take time (months) as snails are very resistant to starvation. And also completely agree with not feeding more than once per day. Otherwise your just encouraging the snails to make more snails 😀 🐌

My Vietnamese Cardinal Minnows love to swim in the current of the filter outflow. To the point where they were swimming up it. Luckily, I saw it before things became fatal. A piece of mesh solved the problem.

But you contradict yourself a little, curious enough to explore the more difficult filter, but not enough to explore the foliage...the reasons of shrimp surviving are different...

Wow, this rasbora seems like a great fish! Amazing video as always! Have you tried keeping Emerald Eye Rasboras? Same small size and they truly, actually school together. Mine prefer roaming the open water rather than hang around decor, unlike so many tetras. They aren't as colorful as other species, so I think that's why they aren't as popular. If you need an active, tiny schooling fish that swims around the top 2/3 of a tank, Emeralds fit that niche best!

Hi Lauren. What was your thinking behind having a filter on for just a couple of hours ? I've also lost fish and shrimp to filters. It's a learning curve but a frustrating and costly one. I've been tempted in the past with Lambchop rasboras. I only keep fish now that I can breed. Endlers, Apistogramma, CPD"s and red neon blue eye are my current fish. All easy to breed.

I must have a group of outliers! I have a 65l tank 24'x12'x14' and mine will happily go right down to the substrate and sift through for food. the only other inhabitants are 10 cherry shrimp adults and medium sized juveniles and they have been harder and harder to find and today i found multiple red poops so im assuming they hunt and eat them even though they are tiny.

I NEED HELP : I got harlequin Rasboras , but at home I realised there is one hengeli rasbora by accident. She was kicked out of the group and stayed in the corner of aquarium, so I bought her 6 hengeli rasboras friends another day , but they straight up joined the big harlequin rasboras group , the lonely hengeli tried to join straight up as well but was kicked again . And now them ‘friends’ are in another group and she stayed alone again. Should I wait or return to shop ? What is this soup opera stuff
@tinymenagerie
@tinymenagerie Год назад
Heyo! In my opinion your lone hengeli is either very stressed or sick, but probably stressed. Taking it back to the shop will likely cause even more stress and as she gets used to the new tank she will join up with the others. It’s not usual for fish to hide and be alone like this when they are first added to a tank even close schooling ones like hengeli. I would give it at least a week before thinking about returning it to the shop. I’m sure she will be fine 👍🏻
@waltroskoh8650
@waltroskoh8650 Год назад
This "soap opera" stuff is you projecting human social behaviour on your fish. Rasboras never "kick out" other rasboras from the school. And, rasboras always school with other rasboras unless one is sick or stressed. So, as previously mentioned - there is something going on with your fish. She may have been shocked when you introduced her to the tank due to it having different water parameters than the store tank. Or, she may have some sort of infection. If she is very small (like much smaller than all the other rasboras), she may also be having difficulties with the current in your tank if it's very strong. Hope this helps - just remember please that fish are fish, and not people.
