THANKS!!!! I knew there was a way to use the aluminum with vinyl doors! I'll likely cut some wood slats to place in and around the top and bottom for better stability. Thank you again for posting this video!
I have the dog door built in the slider window. They take the original window out and install the new window with the dog door built in.It cost a bunch but worth it.It was one of those buy once cry once things, like I try to do on the Jeep mods.
I removed the strike plate and cut a slot in the side of the pet panel the same dimensions of the plate so that the door locks into the pet insert.. Them sheet metal screwed the panel into the frame and it's solid 👌
Oh yes, one other detail. When I called and spoke with lady about return, she said "we don't make custom size inserts." I said, well, your rep promised to make one for me. But in fact, I believe they sent me the "shorty" vinyl door insert thinking it would fit and it didn't. I already knew it wouldn't. That's why I didn't order one. I don't think they made me custom anything.....and that's why it wasn't the right size. Fishy! Left a bad taste in my mouth about doing business with them again.
How long does this take to install? Why did you pick a large for a mini? I’m afraid of going too big and have some person try to squeeze through. Thanks
What is the brand of your dog door, please? Is it possible to lock your patio glass door with this pet insert in place? How does that work? I see your patio door has a key lock on it, however, mine only locks from the inside, so is there a way to lock mine with this insert? Thanks!
I had the aluminum insert for 10-11 years and no, I could not lock my patio door. I can't remember if it had something to do with my 1971 slider door, or if the insert was just not designed to allow attaching the latch plate to the insert. I was frustrated about that, but my patio door insert led not outside, but rather out onto my screened in porch. The storm door out there was locked, but let's be honest...if someone really wanted to get in, they could have slashed the screen and walked right in. Luckily I'm in a safe neighborhood. Never a problem. I have now swapped screen for windows. It's a sunroom now that's locked up pretty tight. I still need an insert, and the new vinyl ones allow you to install the insert, move your latch plate and attach to the other side of the insert so you CAN lock your door. Nice improvement.
