Kallicharan talks about the tough conditions growing up ... playing with his cricketing heroes ... But especially 8:20 onwards, it gets too good as he describes their team meetings and camaraderie on the field .
This talk can rank much more educational than most from Management Gurus , inspiration leaders , life-coaches ...

Great legend. Whenever India played West Indies, the first thing we wanted was that Alwin Kallicharran out cheaply. But it didn't happen everytime and this frustrated us a lot. Now we know Alwin sir's value. God bless him.

Wow. What a mindset. Been following Windies cricket for 30 years and I noticed that our status started to decline simultaneously with the way our players started to approach and speak of the game in the early 2000s. We lost our brand. Our cricket has become reactionary and waiting to follow trends set by other teams. Windies cricket is godsent. No other can compare. A freak of nature. Our young players need to hear and absorb the revelations of past players. We have the generation of players and now that we have been waiting for. Lets show them their history and reminded the world what is Windies cricket..

Heard him take on Lillee as a 15 year old on radio. Able to see it since then on video. One cannot take away the stats of the modern greats and maybe say Jacques Kallis is a "greater" batsman than Kallicharan . Or even Geoffrey Boycott. However, they could never touch Kalli's captivating powers at the wicket. I think I got it, Kalli was a genius, they were not/

Wonderful recollection of events from the legendry Southpaw Kalicharan, a graceful left handed batsmen who tormented many attacks. I have seen him play in Chennai, . His talk brought back memories, the talk of town then would be about WI batting and bowling. Every Tea shop right from Triplicane to Tambaram,, discussed WI batting and bowling. Many went to see them play than seeing the home team; it was simply magnificent entertainment to everyone regardless of Team affiliations. It's the West Indies. The most important thing to note here is, this all-powerful team never sledged. They just played the game. Loved Kalicharan’s words, "there was no weak link in the team" .... Must be the West Indian secret of success, the players he mentioned in the talk were all legends. I wish I had a time machine to get them all back.

He never speaks badly of anyone. But WI administration treated him unfairly. Kali was born to play. After 50 tests his average was 50. Something happened I think - his last 12 tests he never made runs. Average dropped. I bet if he had kept his 50 average he would have been more recognized? Nevertheless he was outstanding. He batted at number 3 when Richards was in the team. Later dropped to 4 I think.

I read in an interview of his that he was made captain for an India tour, when the big names played in the Packer series, and then Lloyd was reinstated when the Packer series was over. He took it badly - "things were never the same again. ... You learnt that they don't care about you ...".

oh....that was a great talk and thanks for posting ! I recall finding his name in the paper almost every single day when he played for Warwickshire - diminutive but what a stylish bat he was !! Also, the 8:20 on was what the reason the WI were champs then, and what he says here made me realize how different the approach was by rest of the teams in the world then. I had an opportunity to observe closely the Indian team that toured in the Caribbean in the late 80s....absolutely casual, no seriousness, no self-respect losing game after game but just drinking juice and sucking on ice-creams - such an attitude just shocked me as they seemed they were on 'vacation' with a clear exception I remember, Kapil Dev - no wonder they lost every single game they played on that tour !
