An Interview with Dr. Paul Mason - Dr. Mason answers questions about vegan and carnivore diets

In December 2020, Dr Paul Mason was interviewed by SBS TV (a national broadcaster in South Korea) for a documentary on nutrition. The purpose of this documentary is to assess the science behind plant based diets. This in the context of increasing popularity of these diets (in part driven by a wildly popular pro-vegetarian program from the same broadcaster 10 years prior) to see whether the health claims of plant based diets stack up.
Since the recording of this interview, a recently published systematic review (www.cochraneli...) on vegan diets has found that there have been zero randomised controlled trials evaluating clinical outcomes on pure plant based diets. This finding at the very least, should bring into question the validity of claims made regarding the health benefits of vegan diets.

@@cassieoz1702 Isn't that the optimal way of discussing sciencetific paper, so you could sift the junk studies before hand Plant-based docs also does that... however, they're so reliant on biased/junk questionaire studies & barely touching Keto with 30-40% macros as 'low-carb' & barely discerning was that grains (high GI) or vegetables (low GI)

@@cassieoz1702 This video is edited for our benefit, sure. But that doesn't mean the original interview was edited heavily. We would need a link to the original to judge that. Do you have that ? As for the questions being known in advance, there's no problem with that (it allows for a well formulated answer, which is what he's providing). The problem would be if certain questions were not allowed to be asked. Is that your concern ?

Awesome presentation, I love hearing the truth! For many years I believed in the low fat, low meat diet and my health suffered terribly. An incident from a dog bite wound not healing showed me clearly how deficient this diet was and I then began transforming my diet into a fat and meat protein rich one. My healing was staggering, wound healed in 3 weeks that had not healed in 6 months. Keep preaching Dr Mason!

Would you write to the ABC (SA branch on ABC News, Catherine Robinson, on - - - ahem, 1 April) interviewing a "researcher" (survey of 3k people, broken into groups veg/vegan, wanting to reduce meat ans NOT wanting to reduce meat. She reports I think 30% wanting to reduce meat. No "reducing carbs" anywhere in sight. Robinson then sets the seal on this ignorance by quipping jauntily at the end "oh dear. I just ordered a meat pizza. I guess that's my last". (Not last PIZZA 🍕 but last MEAT 🥩.) cheesh!!! Eat beef, not pizza! PS her name sounded, ironically, like a negation of meat. Wendy unburger or " UMBERGER" I think. WOEFUL research.

That _blue zone_ thing is just a myth from de 1980's. For example, Sardinia in Italy is supposed to be one of them. Well, according to Eurostat, the EU's institute for statistics, it does not make even the top five in Europe, wich are the Madrid region in Spain (85.5), the canton of Ticino in Switzerland (85.2), the autonomous province of Trento in Italy (84.6), Île-de-France (Paris region) in France (84.5) and Navarre in Spain (84.4). Btw, only Trento could be considered a "Mediterranean" area. The rest are all interior regions with traditional beef/pork based diets.

The blue zone book author admits they deliberately left out the evidence of meat eating in "blue zones". Okinawans, for example, get the majority of their calories from pork (pork fat especially). Greek people get most of their calories from dairy, lamb and goat meat. The seventh day adventists are actually the only group in the book that are ovo-lacto vegetarian or vegan and they found no additional all-cause mortality between those two groups.

According to Joseph Everett, the RU-vidr from What I’ve Learned, Okinawa was the site of the most deadly battle in the Pacific. Roughly one third of the population was killed. For the years following the war, people were forced to rely on sweet potatoes to avoid starvation. A study done in 1949, four years after the war, noted this dependence upon sweet potatoes. A 2016 study compared this starvation diet with one used to increase lifespan in rodents. A 2019 journalist cherry picked the info, and pushed the vegan agenda. The Blue Zones author ignored the fact that pork is an essential part of the Okinawan diet. It is always served at their festivals. I doubt that we will ever know what kind of diet led to the high number of centenarians in Okinawa. The topic has become too politicized.

Dr Paul Mason is the best!!! 1 question thow. In 27:52 ”we know that animal foods really don’t contain any B12” Dr Mason means vegetable foods, right?

Probably but also if you ask (keran) vegans they will say that animals also don't have B12 at all.. that live animals are either supplemented or they actually make it out of the grass they eat. I'm not a keran ...just preparing you in your next argument with a vegan :)))
@asarcadyn2414
@asarcadyn2414 3 года назад
@@diaconescutiberiu7535 I’ve seen that argument too. I just ask where plants get their nutrients from. It’s exactly the same - either supplements from Big Agriculture or soil nourished by animal dung.

27:27 Animal s food s the best, or as food is the bes, he does not sound the "t" then at 27:52 animal food as in "what animals eat" vegetables? That's how I see it, as and is is missing.

B12 is bacteria found in soil, nothing to do with plants or animals. If the animal eats soil yes it will contain B12.
@patriciawalters6778
@patriciawalters6778 2 года назад
@@TB1M1 ruminant meat has plenty of B-12. Foregut fermenters absorb the B-12 made in their rumens by microbes. They don't consume soil to get B-12. Herbivores who are hindgut fermenters (incl. rabbits, horses, pigs, apes) are actually adapted to eat their own feces in order to harvest the bacterial B-12 found there. Why would an adaptation for eating feces evolve if simply eating soil could have provided enough of the nutrient?

27:48 "Because we know that animal foods really don't contain any B12" I think he meant to say 'plant-based foods' there, right ? As in, plant based foods don't contain B12, so vegetarians must be supplementing with it.

18:51 the study titled "Cancer incidence in vegetarians: results from the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC-Oxford)" actually concludes the following: "the incidence of all cancers combined was lower among vegetarians than among meat eaters, but the incidence of colorectal cancer was higher in vegetarians than in meat eaters". Dr Paul Mason didn't mention that the incidence of all cancers was Lower among vegetarians.

I hope so much to get an answer to this: Where to get my Omega 3? - Dr Mason said in other talks: 1.) "supplements are probably oxidised" 2.) "fed salmon is not safe to have a lot of Omega 3" (and wild salmon gets more rare, is "unethic" to buy and what happens with the good fatacids while roasting the fish?) - Here he said: "polyunsaturated fats which are found in vegetable and seed oils are quite dangerous" So, there is no source left I know of expect the handful of walnuts I eat...and Dr. Berg once talked against having to much nuts (I don't remember why). And yes, I eat grass fed beef n' butter, but I understood they contain mostly saturated fats. I addition I read that flaxseed oil contains a hughe amount of substances that bind our estrogen receptors. That does not sound like I want to consume that daily. What about canola- and hempseed oil? They have a lot of Omega 3. Are they safe to eat them daily with cold food like salad etc as primary source when they are pressed and bottled under oxygen-free atmosphere, in small glass bottles like 250 ml, kept in the fridge and consumed fast? I get these kind of oils here in Germany. Thanks in advance! I watched Dr Mason for hours and it's very informative but I struggle with this aspect a lot!

The first study that was all but ignored, was done in the north African migrant tribes of nomads that ate goat cheese and animal fat at 3x the fat that Americans eat. They had no heart problems, and were very healthy.
