These doctors including Dr Jason Fung convinced me after 25 years of being T2D to quit my three diabetic drugs and my blood pressure drugs and I fasted 24hours and then went on the Keto diet it’s now been 8 weeks and I’ve lost 30lbs without trying blood sugar has never had a high peak except a little over Christmas Day and blood pressure has dropped dramatically. By speaking out and posting these lectures we can make informed decisions about our lifestyles and get healthy again. Thank you so much and at 80 years old I’ve never been fitter in fact I still have a class 1 Aviation medical. I also sleep 7.5 hours without waking up except when the cat jumps onto the bed. This relief from diabetes has been one of the greatest gifts to the human race and it’s free.
JONATHAN PRIDIE That gives me hope. I’ve been ttd for twenty years, mostly diet controlled. I was afraid to go keto because of all the scare tactics ie ‘you’ll wreck your kidneys’. I managed to lose 10kg by restricting calories. I was able to maintain reasonable control of my bgl’s until recently where it spiked to 19. I started keto 30 g a day, but even though I am in ketosis I haven’t lost more than 1 kilo in six weeks, and couldn’t get my bgl low enough, HbA1c was 10, so I’m on metformin now. I will keep going with the keto because it should be lowering my insulin. I will get there👍😁. I came off BP meds as well. I ran out one time, and I monitored it for a few days and it was stable, so I just kept going monitoring it at home. Three years later my BP is around 120/60. What a waste of money taking BP medication for up to 20 years for no reason. I chucked away the Lipitor at the same time😁 Good luck in your journey to good health👍🌟
After 2.5yrs of following my GPs and the diabetic australia advice I still failed to reduce my A1c or maintain any meaningful weightloss, i was miserable all the time trying to follow the dietary guidelines. In 4 months of keto and intermittent fasting I got to my ideal weight range and normalised my a1c.. I'm off all meds and my energy is off the charts.. my GP YELLED at me for doing something so dangerous even though my blood work is excellent. The kicker is my GP is more overweight than I was at my heaviest.. I've since changed GPs :D
Same here. My doctor thinks by not following medical advice as he thinks is fit, I am living a dangerous life while triglycerides is now half. And my cholestrol has gone down from 256 to 228 in two months. My weight is down by 13 pounds aided by intermittent fasting as well.
I would love to send this video to my doctors who were at a loss to explain my huge visceral fat increase and high blood pressure. I returned a year later after finding low carb 65 lb lighter and normal blood pressure he just looked at me and asked me to tell everyone in the waiting room what I had done.
You're lucky he didn't look at you like you were a piece of excrement, and then tell you, in essence, that you were an idiot, and that your weight loss had nothing to do with what you were talking about. My experience with physicians, is that no matter what it is you're talking about, YOU'RE ALWAYS WRONG (and probably lying). Nice to know there are docs out there, somewhere, who are possibly receptive to input. And truly, it's amazing that a physician actually let you finish a sentence without cutting-you-off. Around here, they won't even let you answer the questions they ASK you (unless you very quickly give monosyllabic answers: a single multi-syllable word answer being too long).
I was lucky that when I told my family doctor I started keto she was genuinely happy and supportive... 4 months later I told her that I had lost 30 lbs, and she cheered. There really are some good doctors out there.
Careful. 15:16 is very important. Never judge someone's health by what they look like though I have no doubt you are correct in this instance, there is a significant amount of TOFI's walking around.
Fantastic presentation. I had skin tags and my doctor did not know what the were. 20 years of gaining weight. I've abandoned all doctors that do not have this knowledge.
Sean Raymond I believe he means that she didn’t consciously change her macro ratios. Her calorie consumption naturally went down due to lowering her insulin production.
Yes processed food is poison. My eyes are open to how they use cheap carbs spray it with salt and sugar and call it food Insulting and laughable. I walk right past it.
I wish someone would open a chain of low carbohydrate / keto food stores. The number of stock items would be small, so the volume of each store would be much smaller than even a convenience market.
Began keto for the pre-diabetes (6.1 US measure and now 5.1 which is normal) and stayed for the other benefits (improved sleep, loss of acid reflux, more energy, clear skin). 2 years now, still enjoying the food too.
I was told I was T2D in Feb 2019. Off meds 3 weeks after starting 20g keto, off hypertension meds which I had been taking for 9 years... after 4 months doing keto. Wish I had known sooner. Aldo lost 50lbs
hi, im really interested to know more about the sleep link. did you find your sleep improved a lot or had sleep problems before? I am starting to think there's a big link.
@@krisbaum1974 there is a very strong link between sleep deprivation and insulin resistance, not to mention myriad other health issues. Interestingly, many of my patients report that they need less sleep after going keto (though still should aim for at least 7.5 hours).
This is a great presentation. Not that his others were not. I will be back to referencing Dr Mason as much as I reference Dr. Jason Fung. again.. Almost a year since I started to fix myself. Made it to my absolute dream weight in 5 months. Blood work went from borderline to fantastic, along with vital signs and fitness levels. Fixing insulin resistance not only helps metabolic syndromes, but improves fitness and every day life.
Thank you Dr. Mason! I would consider this presentation a perfect presentation because it does two things that are very important. Number one, it articulates and visually demonstrates a very easily comprehensible primer about the efficacy of low carb diets, and the biochemical mechanisms behind it. This is an ideal presentation for me to send to people who are unfamiliar with the therapeutic benefits of low carb. Number two, if offers relatively new information, that even people who are well versed in the science of low carb, have not been introduced to - namely how a low carb diet can mitigate the destructive effects of seed oil consumption. I have been listening to low carb lectures for years, and this is the first I have heard of this. Very few presentations within the health space can appeal to both newbies to a dietary protocol, as well as seasoned veterans. Keep up the great work Dr. Mason!
36 years on low fat, plant based, calorie restricted diet, I could NOT get below 155 pounds-much money spent, much exercise exerted. 6 months on high animal fat, moderate protein, less than 20 grams/day of carbohydrates and I fell to my high school weight of 125 and have stabilized for 8 MONTHS! Effortlessly and happily. Love my 🍳🥩🧈🥓 and daily walk of 15 to 30 minutes, my joyful mood and joint flexibility (inflammation and pain all gone) plus my liver dumping it’s fat. I eat for energy, not for entertainment.
There are only two reasons for obesity: sloth and gluttony. I should know. I have been called a lazy pig my entire life. Funny, I switched to intermittent fasting, stopped worrying about dietary fat, and reduced processed carbohydrates. I have lost 53 kg to date without feeling hungry. I was never a lazy pig. I was following the wrong advice.
Love Dr. Mason's video for its sharp and straight-to- the- point messages! It has consolidated my understanding of the causes and effects of insulin resistance. Thanks so much!
I now want to move from Norway to Australia and get Dr. Paul Mason as my doctor, what a brilliant mind he has and fantastic way to explain difficult medical processes so even I can understand it. Has he written a book yet? If not then I hope he will soon, I will be the first in line to buy it.
I live in Australia but sadly I have never met a doctor like Dr. Paul Mason. Every single doctor I've ever been to is very conventional and most certainly doesn't have Dr. Mason's knowledge and expertise. When an obese friend visited his doctor recently he was "fat shamed" and told to just eat less and exercise more and to cut out the fat. So sadly doctors like Dr. Mason are as rare as hens teeth here as well.
It's true most doctors will tell you to lose weight..eat less..exercise more and give you a tablet to "help" your problem. They don't do a thorough check on the person..you are a statistic in their medical practice. You have to do your own research.
I followed the heart associations recommendation for eating, and it took 12 years of being labeled “irritable bowel “ to discover that margarine was my poison. Canola oil, and it is in so many food products, disguised as “other vegetable oil”. After listening to this I feel this is the cause of my diabetic state as I never had a sweet tooth, never added sugar to anything, ate low fat and never added salt, also tried to avoid processed food. I was shocked when my doctor said you are pre diabetic!
Profs and doctors are being paid by food company. There should be laws against that. Can the judge or the cop take gifts or money? No. But drs and profs are allowed.
I am in mid fifties and weighed 325 lbs, three months ago after bloodwork my doc called in a panic as my AC1 was 13 and my blood sugar was 400. I felt like crap and found out I was in ketoacidosis...He prescribed metformin and said i probably needed insulin. I refused the meds and Immediately went on keto diet and have lost 40 pounds in two months...it is just melting off and I am not even exercising regularly....and I have more energy than I have had in 15 years. My fasting blood sugar is down to the high 90's and my post meal sugar has gone from 400 to 140..it gets lower every week. I finally feel like I understand my body for the first time in my life. These videos are great!
One of the most informative videos I’ve seen lately. I’ve been double checking facts and just wanted to say “THANKS!” for opening my eyes to a number of things like skin tags, etc.
So glad I found this gem in RU-vid. Doctors usually think they know more than their patients but at the end YOU have to protect yourself by doing your own research.
It’s a real reminder of the staggering damage of carbs. I’ve lost 5 st. By avoiding carbs, it’s really that easy. No carbs and fresh food. I watch this weekly as a way of self encouragement.
You don't have to punish yourself you'll be better off switching from the usual to the keto friendly stuff (sweets) off the shelves sometimes when your cravings haunt you Even better if you can keep restraint, make your own homemade version and store for those intense cravings but make sure not to go overboard I was going through this sometimes back so was kinda heartfelt Cheers
I had the most disgusting skin tags under my arms. Been on Keto for 6 weeks, lost 12lbs and the skin tags have nearly gone! Oh, and I feel better than I've felt in decades. Works for me.
Thanks for the reassurance. I had read/watched videos about not worrying about high LDL before, but your comments about the BMJ article reviewing 19 studies has stopped my concern about my LDL going up to 4.8 last October and 5.4 this January and the doctor getting all worked up about it!! I said "I'm not worried" but secretly I was a little! I am doing a keto diet and have lost over 25kg so far. I have started using more saturated fat in my cooking.
My LDL is also high but my HDL and triglycerides are spot on. Mainstream doctors really have the wrong idea about cholesterol. I have decided to reject the constant pressure to take a statin and continue to feel brilliant.
Always learning something new on your seminars/presentations. Melatonin problably is a good explanation why sleep is so important, if you are sick or not. THANK YOU!
I feel so sad for all the people who are stuck in the old paradigm. A few weeks ago an overweight person told me I could better put the full fat cottage cheese back and get the zero (low) fat one, or I would end up like him. He shook his head and told me I was stupid when I told him about LCHF in a nutshell. I am lean and athletic, but that didn't convince him. So sad....
Amazing the allegiance people show for their health care professionals and I guess ignorance is bliss…I have the same reaction from many very sick people, I am not giving up.
Great talk. Also, when you heat pufas, like when deep frying, then breakdown into nasty, aldehydes. So, French fries, chips etc cooked in sunflower oil are directly toxic as well as high carb, caloric and insulin inducing. Quadruple the problem.
Thank you for posting this LCDU. Over time the root cause(s) of western illnesses will be well understood. Fortunately we can change our own diets and the progressive evidence is that the LCHF diet has positive health benefits.
THANK you Dr.,for explaining WHY and HOW these things happen. Many do not give enough explanation. Understanding makes it so much easier to follow. You're hard work is appreciated!
@Laura Butler The monied vested interests of big Ag, Big Pharma, big insurance ( in the US) and institutional inertia to change and admit they were wrong !
Laura Butler sad thing is that there is still no motivation to change the way we eat as there is too much money in keeping us sick and giving us drugs to keep us going
Gotta love how cynical everybody in this comment section is lol. You’re all right though. It was definitely market forces in multiple industries that stood to profit from sugar addiction that developed the food pyramid and kept that myth perpetuated. Money is the root of all evil.
Absolutely great presentation. I love it. Even if to confide that I knew it all and stay long on the Ketogenic diet with heavy aerobic exercises, I enjoyed it a lot. Meanwhile school books are zombifing kids to eat low fat diets and number of them already suffering from obesity is staggering.
Your explanations are a great refresher on biochemistry from my med school days but with more interesting & sensible explanations. Love the literature references on your slides also. Keep up the great work. Any thoughts on the concept of resistant starches?
Watching your channel has saved my life. It really has. Used to be type two diabetic, now nothing. Happy to go days without food and lots of water and nutrients. It’s easy.
So I am a sucker ,, geek for these vidoes, I can listen to these all day long, and I even love the technical details, specially what's happening inside the fat cells due to the action of HSL hormone , I want that lol
wow you actually believe this stuff? People on super high carb diets are lean as hell and don't get any diabeties or large blood sugar spikes. It's the FAT that causes carb resistsnce. Carbs don't cause their own resistance Lol
LDL also inactivates Staph Aureus, which is another reason not to lower it. Uffe Ravenskov, one of the authors of the last study Dr. Mason displayed, told me about it years ago and I couldn't believe it. But he was right. This was an amazing video. I started a low-carb diet a few weeks ago and my triglycerides went from 438 to 150. It works.
It worked for me! Reversed T2D, reversed Sleep Apnea, no more GERD, no more neuropathy, and so much more! Cutting the carbs has been a life changer!! #nocarbsnation
I was doing pretty good on keto and lost 20 lbs- but I plateaued. I was still drinking a little alcohol and eating some processed food/ vegetable oils - though not always on purpose. There's a lot of hidden vegetable and nut seed oils, and emulsifiers. I cut those out by being more careful about reading labels on food. I've found you really have to be careful. And I just quit all alcohol I've also started being more strict about following Keto and have finally started losing the last 15 pounds. I'm down 5 lbs in and I've got 10 more lbs to go.
Excellent presentation. I love his calmness. I can't think about this stuff with getting really angry. There are millions and millions still being mistreated by our medical establishment. Don't get me started on the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, and American Dietetic Association - Criminal, really.
this should be made mandatory viewing for all general practioners!.....in last Sundays newspaper in Sydney, we had nutritionists rate numerous diets. The Keto diet scored 1/10 and was rated the worse diet and advised people that it was potentially dangerous and a fad.. So why is that?...are most doctors and nutritionists clueless halfwits? I don't need a stinkin unversity degreee to work out my crappy western diet was killing me. So I changed it!...Keto for life!.....and thank you Dr Paul Mason for this video.....So what chance does the general public have when we have dopes as doctors?
Dr. Paul! You make great content. Kindly make a video on why some people can't put on weight despite normal eating and being healthy. Also put some light on rate of metabolism and its relation to three body types Endomorph, Ectomorph and Mesomorph IF they are relevant to the topic.
Please, yes. Dr. PAUL MASON, please address how we Low Weight individuals can reduce our systemic inflammation and gain/maintain more ideal bmi on a keto or similar diet? I’m thinking this is more challenging than losing weight. And, yes, it seems high resistance exercising of major muscle groups would be a necessary part of your recommendations. (Is adding more carbs AND adding MCT oil/ketone bodies an option? Or just piling on more fat? Or protein? (Are there any non-animal fats that would help. Ideas I have: macadamia nuts and ??? - most nuts are inflammatory to sensitive-gut people. ) Thanks, anyone, for thoughts…
Hi Dr.Mason . I'm making an enquiry as to whether pancreatitis can be reversed with either the Ketogenic or carnivore diet . I have had a huge successful on keto and now mostly carnivore myself with weight loss and recommended you and carbs down under for a friend . We live on the MORNINGTON PENINSULA in VICTORIA. Thanks for the great work you are doing in providing education for those
Fatastic! It's the perfect amount of science to substantiate the benefits of a low carb diet, without losing the average person, so many could benefit from this presentation. As a carnivore, I'm testing the waters with family and friends for receptivity of my new choices (3 months in). I've sent a couple of videos without a positive reaction, so far. However, when the time is right, this video is at the top of the list to send to them. Thank you very much, Dr. Mason!
Another great video by Dr Paul Mason, explains in detail how fat is accumulated into fat cells by doing a SAD (in reality super High Carb diet). Low carb is the solution for most deseases. Many thanks doctor for all the valuable information provided in your videos!
Back to reality though, Low carb diets will only worsen the problem of carb resistance. You will lose weight and get off your medication, but the diabeties is still there, and if you eat high carb for a day your blood sugar would be through the roof. Ironically though, a high carb diet is the only way for any keto dieters to get themselves out of the hole they dug. Over time fat in the system will reduce, diabeties will be gone, and you can eat a high carb diet without large blood sugar spikes
@@suchalad why would you want to. Glucose spikes get you all carb addicted again the dopamine rush and crash and HANGRY for carbs. No thanks. OMAD IF KETO
I'm very happy to know there are so many doctors, and scientists out there who are taking a different and holistic approach by look into food and diets to help everyone than just resort to managing the disease through medications ignoring the side effects of the med.
I started his recipe almost 2 years ago. It's helped tremendously. One of my "go-tos" is a shake with 8oz hemp milk, 4 tbsp heavy cream, 1 scoop keto powder (keto science), 1 scoop MCT power, a tsp of Creatinine and an 1/8 tsp lions main. 50g fat, 2 g carb and I belive 15g protein. Add a can of sardines with skin and bones and that's a hell of a meal.
Much relief after going through this stuff. Stress no doubt affects my blood sugar levels ru-vid.comUgkx6Cu3qDh3FB7umUbfXaU7hDAHrqvwQyNk Taking a walk usually help bring them down. Eating sweets is not my favorite, but if i take a large portion of them, my blood sugar level rises high. I think it's the high concentration of the glucose flowing into the bloodstream all at once. This is a lesson worth taking note of. This is a great material to learn from.
From the study: "As dietary carbohydrate decreased, there was a consistent increase in plasma PL arachidonic acid (20:4n6)(...)" Calculating from table 1 (food contents): 9 % of the high carb diet was PUFA vs. 16 % on the low carb diet, meaning the PUFA-level was disproportionally high in the low carb diet, compared to the high carb diet. May this be the reason for the increased levels of arachidonate on the low carb diet?
I love Dr. Mason for its straight, easy to understand way of explaining highly sophisticated biological and medical terms to a normal audience. He is also pretty handsome and from that shirt you can not notice his fit body. Love this guy! Love his work. My only problem that I have now, after I have switched to keto-carnivore diet, is my hystamine intolerance. I had irritable bowel syndrome, which is said to be correlated with the low production of insufficient production of one of the enzymes responsible with the degradation of the histamines. After switching I have ate a lot of histamine containing foods, such as sauerkraut, yogurt, sour cream, matured meats and cheese. And now, after dark, my skin gets inflamed with eczemas resembling those of food allergies. This only happens at night time and early in the morning. During the day, they dissapear. The flares are making me nuts. Any of you here have encountered this problem? I have tried to limit every single food to the point of eating only meat and fats. Any idea of how long it will take me to cure myself? Thanks!
Histamines can be a problem, even on an animal based diet. Avoiding fermented and cured foods can reduce histamine intake, as can ensuring your food is a fresh as possible. Dr Georgia Ede presents an excellent lecture on this topic.
What a mind blowing session! I leant omea-6s dont necessary bad if you're in low carb diet.(unless it's oxidized by aging) And omega-3s MORE PHRONE to oxidation than omega6s if you're in a high carb det! ALL THE TIME I THOUGHT OMEGA3s are anti-inflamatory regardless of what diet you are on! WOW This is really game changer for me!
Again Amazing talk supported with a real patient testimonial and all supportive evidence Let Aline the method Dr Paul Mason is a connoisseur in relaying his knowledge 💚❤️🥰
KEY TO (Keto) : HOME COOKED MEAL is key to your health/weight success. Just start by the small things if you're too far from what is considered "healthy" STOP EATING OUT. STOP EATING PRE-PACKAGED FOODS STOP EATING SWEETS
