Right! My favorite was the same actress in this that played the fat (then thin) girl played a wasp mom who was incredibly racist to her sons 11/12 year old black friend, and she is literally disgusting, to the point where she makes him walk home after she curses him/berates him because he ate their cereal... then because ya know, racism, she accuses him of stealing... but the whole time until she runs him out of her house he’s just brushing it off being super nice to her (like, no human is that forgiving) Best part, then she finds out the black boys dad own a huge tech company and drives a Tesla and he’s suddenly invited over to Sunday dinner and he’s the good influence he always was for her son... like no bro... the moral of this is not “hey a black kid could have Forbes 100 list parents, so don’t be overtly racist and use horrible stereotypes when they’re just trying to exist” like the moral is don’t be a racist POS because you look like the degenerate one... It was so hysterically bad, not to mention some how her son is this loving and accepting pure soul that doesn’t see color at like 12, despite his seemingly one and only parent being so racist she would degrade a 12 year old kid who was a guest in their home. His stuff is all so bad, I bought it at first when he said “oh I have to tell simple stories for non English speakers” that’s totally fine, but your morals are all wrong, so stop virtue signaling dude lol

When did he say they were real? He uses the same pretty crappy actors in all the videos so it’s obvious to me it’s not real. I mean don’t get me wrong though his videos are definitely cringe af and make me mad as hell sometimes because there are so much better ways to get his point across WITHOUT SAYING literally all of the things he’s claiming to make these videos to stand against. It seems kinda to me like he is a bully but wants to appear like this super nice guy who would never think any of these things even though he literally writes all of these scripts and decided to say mean shit in the first place. @@meggswaggs5965 at least for me, it felt like the creator thought he was portraying real experiences when he said “we’re helping real people.” The work he makes is shallow and one tone, so saying that a piece like this helps real people is just strange, and kinda feels as though he’s trying to get back at someone who’s done this to him. Especially with the weird insert of his wife.

I've watched only one video from him that wasn't in a commentary video (it peaked my interest because it was centered around an autistic child and I'm autistic myself so I wanted to see if it was good representation or not (it wasn't)) and in that video there was this Dhar Mann university that was talked about like it was part of the Ivy league.

It’s actually a real term used to refer to a specific phenomenon! Toxic positivity is when people say you should ignore your emotions and “just choose to be happy” or “be grateful because other people have it worse.” To an extent, this stuff can be helpful- it’s not good to dwell on negative things unnecessarily- but sometimes we as humans are not capable of ignoring our sadness or other negative emotions and “just choosing to be happy.” This mindset becomes toxic when you don’t process your emotions or you refuse to acknowledge things you’ve done wrong or you feel shame because you’re trying to “choose happiness” but you can’t help being sad. A lot of Dhar Mann videos have the message of “don’t be sad you idiot, be grateful that you’re not HOMELESS and DISABLED like THIS GUY”

@@Forestfreud Yeah I've heard it too, as someone that had depression as a kid for many years I needed to be negative to help deal with that shit, feeling bad and pessimistic is natural and it's why we find listening to sad music or watching sad movies to be cathartic, it's a relief to indulge negative feelings sometimes. Feeling one thing all the time is a sign you're stuck on something and not adapting to new circumstances, if stuck in one mindset you're not growing as a human being.

I hate how all of these “girl loses fat and finds self-worth” storylines are always like “she threw out her enormous stash of candy and started working out”. Being fat doesn’t mean you have some sort of hidden junk food stash lingering in your home, and weight loss is a lot more difficult and involved than just throwing away some candy and exercising. If it was that easy, people wouldn’t spend years fighting to get the weight off.

Yeah, weight loss/gain is about how your specific genetics play with various foods. An excellent diet for one person might be horrible for another.

@@pahoellyyy Well, no. It all depends on the person in both circumstances. Not all skinny people live exactly the same either. Some fat people may actually be binge eaters. In the same note, some skinny people may actually be anorexic and are only skinny because they starve themselves. We never know what's going on behind the scenes of a person's life since we only see what others want us to see. The fact that you grouped all skinny people together like that honestly makes you a hypocrite since your assuming that they all live differently than fat people. But neither of us could ever know that since every person in the world is different with different circumstances in their lives.

There seems to be a lot of correlation to where someone lives? Considering different countries seem to have more overweight people than others, like America being the most saturated example. Using that as example, it seems to me a lot of even standard food sold in america has a lot of sugar put in it and other unhealthy things, and it being the more accessible and affordable stuff... it wouldn't be surprising if that's a major factor. Plus if the person has a very hectic and stressful life, they will have less energy or time to eat more consciously, thus picking up more ready-made meals, like tv dinners or idk anything that's quick. Genetics and conditions can play a part but I don't think it's the norm(among ppl under 35 who have not had children anyway), or scandinavia would look very different. Where I live, there isn't as harsh working schedules, food isn't as pumped with sugar(which IS addicting), and people under 50 are not often overweight. A loose guess is maybe 15% of the ppl I see in this age group or less. I'm absolutely no expert so don't take my word as gospel, it's just my personal observation. Regardless of the causes, everyone should be treated with kindness and respect, because whether or not it has to do with genetics or diet or whatever else... we don't know what that person deals with i their everyday life. Unless they're super duper morbidly obese, their weight may not even be their most immediate concern right now. And it's none of our business regardless!

It's one of the grossest things that Friends tried to pass off as humor. Super demeaning that Monica was apparently not allowed to be successful or happy until she was skinny later...

@@ThatBlondePerson I think it made Monica more dynamic as a character. It was an example of her steel resolve. She obviously had a problem, an addiction, a vice that she got out of. It also explained why she had quite severe OCD. She wasn't just a "perfect" "together" "hard working" character anymore she had some issues that honestly helped me relate to her. In the show she lost weight because of one comment by Chandler which obviously wouldn't happen in real life, more often than not it would be a catalyst for binge eating. But Monica decided she wasn't going to be made fun of anymore and she literally said "my heart isn't in trouble anymore blah blah blah" so her losing weight literally saved her life. Whether that was the message of the writers doesn't matter, it made Monica less 2D. It gave her something that made her real. I don't agree with treating overweight people with velvet gloves. At the end of the day there's an addiction behind it. As a recovering addict myself if I was treated that way I'd be hella dead Regarding the humour in friends I think it is needed. Back then people had a "laugh or cry" mentality. You NEED the ability to laugh at fucked up things or you will be beaten and broken by them believe me.

Frrr or the whole "dont judge a book" thing Idk about you guys but when i'm looking for a new book, i look at the covers. why? Because a whole team of people worked hard on art/photography and design to give an eyecatching representation of what might be underneath. Books are to be judged on covers. (I do however feel likpeople shouldnt be treated like crap just becaaause of the final judgement)

Exactly! I think he got confused somewhere between a cautionary tale and a moral. I always joke that I’m super nice to shit drivers if I’m interviewing for a job nearby because you never know who could be on their lunch break, people use things like that as a cautionary tale- like “hey you should be kind in general to people because all people count, here’s what happened one time when I wasn’t” like stories that he’s telling would be fine but he confuses it for “you should be nice to someone cause they could secretly be better than you and you would miss the opportunity to use them for their money/fame/opportunities” it’s so obnoxious. I’m nice to everyone I meet because I want people to have a good day and I understand everyone struggles differently, not because “it could be Elon musk in a wig and he could have hired me... but aw shucks I called him a fat poor loser cause he was in sweats” Lol his stories are that ridiculous tbh

Easy improvement of this story: she ate a lot to cope with her mans abuse. She felt better after the breakup and didn't need to overeat anymore and started running again. The other lady left him because he was mean and he realized he should be nicer to people.

This whole story would have sat better with me if the ex wife didn't have a guy with her, didn't lose weight, but instead told her ex husband that he hurt her terribly and that thru therapy and self reflection, she finally got some self esteem back and couldn't take the chance on him abusing her again. Make it not about the weight, but the treatment of others. That would have been a much better smack in the face to him to have her be less shallow but still not willing to try again with this troubled relationship

Before that, she began going to therapy and working on her self esteem. lol go watch cody ko’s video’s on darhman. he made one roasting him and one where he talked to darhman about the roast video. darhman basically explained why he makes the videos and what type of people watch them, so that video will answer the who and why questions about darhman. trust me i had the same questions before watching that video, i have a film degree like nick too lmaooo

There’s an episode of Fresh Prince with Queen Latifah I think it’s something like Will is set up with her on a blind date, and even though they get along he doesn’t want to go to the dance with her because of her weight. Eventually he feels guilty and tries to apologize and to get her to go to the dance. But, she was already planning to go to the dance without him anyway. I think I’m probably super messing up the actual plot, but definitely ended with her not being ashamed at all with her weight. So congrats to it almost 30-year-old she doing better than so many shows and movies do today.

I feel the 1996 Nutty Professor and even Shallow Hal handled this better as well. In the Nutty Professor, Sherman Klump is shown to be very overweight but also a kind hearted man. However, he feels that Buddy Love is who people (particularly Carla) want him to be due to him being thin as well as Suave. Eventually though, Sherman finds the confidence to accept himself along with Carla dancing with him at the end. The businessman even describes Sherman at the end as "a brilliant scientist and a gentleman". In Shallow Hal, Hal gets hypnotized into seeing the Inner beauty of people, resulting in him falling in love with an overweight girl named Rosemary since he sees her as a beautiful woman. Once the hypnosis is undone, Hal initially avoids Rosemary but later finds that he truly has feeling for her and decides to go with her to her Peace Corps mission. When two comedy movies from 1996 and 2001 can do a better job at body positivity than a single Dhar Mann video, there's a problem.

@@NickDiRamioTV The worst one I have ever seen is this one where a girl’s boyfriend gets mad at her for hanging out with her best friend, who he doesn’t like. She tells him to shove it and goes out with the best friend anyway, only for the best friend to get them into a situation where they’re roofied at a stranger’s house. The final scene is the girl passed out on the bathroom floor and assumedly about to be assaulted, while her boyfriend blows up her phone with worried texts, and then the moral is all “LISTEN TO YOUR SPOUSE OR THIS COULD BE YOUU.” Talk about a problematic message, right? Could be good for a clip breakdown though. EDIT: It’s called “Girlfriend gets backstabbed by her own best friend” if anyone is looking for it.

Ok here’s my alt ending: remove the narration scene entirely, we don’t need it, it’s summed up completely when the guy says” she cheated on me with another trainer”. Cast a fat actress and style her in depression sweats for the first half. Focus on HER POV after the breakup, showing her working out, making friends, and feeling better about herself and realizing the bf was the reason she felt like shit about herself. Cue her stepping out of that car still fat but fitter and in clothes she likes and that flatter her, ex is there in his own depression sweats (possibly a few depression pounds) and their convo boils down to “it’s easy to feel like shit when someone treats you like shit” or smth and she goes on with a hard NO about getting back together. Maybe she’s with her new friends instead of a hunky new bf. NOW the story is about her personal journey instead of about how no one will love you when you’re fat, and he maybe learns he should be nicer to the women he’s dating. There done easy.

Truly educated rich people shouldn't feel the need to flaunt their wealth in front of poorer people because they know that their wealth does not define their character. Not Dhar though - both his and his wife's Instagram are full of lavish vacation shots, designer clothes, the high life. It really says a lot about what type of people they both are behind the scenes.

we can talk about realistic prosthetics and makeup effects all day long and nick does bring up some great points, but i think the more pressing question is: why aren't we just hiring fat actors to play fat characters? why would people rather hire a skinny actor and put them in a fat costume instead of just hiring a fat actor? if the character's "arc" is that they get skinny and THAT'S why a thin actor has to play the role, then WHY are all stories about fat people about them losing weight?
