Primal fitness is a trend that is popping up everywhere. It is a system of fitness that utilizes primal human and animal movements. The movements have a high degree of functionality and are often used in functional movement and functional fitness programs.
Animal flow is one such program. Designed by body weight fitness expert Mike Fitch, the program is designed to create highly functional movers. It is a movement training program first and a fitness program second. In Animal Flow, animal type primal movements are learned in a progression that is suitable for beginners and yet has a depth of skill that will keep even advanced movers sweating.

The animal movement helped me in relieving my lower back pain. Since I discovered it I must always spare 15 - 30 mins doing them. It makes one feel more grounded

Shapeshifter have you heard of Kalaripayattu? its the oldest martial art in the world and Bodhidharma took it to china to the Shaolin temple. My point is we have been doing Animal flow for almost 5000 years. Please check when you have the time.

Hey man I love the channel! I’m young but I’ve been in a lot of accidents and I’ve found workouts like this have been by far the most effective thing for treating my chronic pain. Yeah I really dig what you’re all about keep on trucking bro 🤘

Great explanation! So important to work the fundamental positions of movement (crawling, supine, etc) to be better on our feet! Trying to make animal flow a staple in my clients workouts, and bring more awareness to a younger audience by making videos.

All of this stuff, while being an amazing thing to add to your work out routine on its own merit, is also something I have found to be the perfect warm up for lifting or whatever your activity is. I spend 15 to 20 mins doing this type of stuff and my whole body is primed. It seems to flow naturally with the kettlebell, sandbag, mace, club, and calisthenics work I do. I also no longer hate warming up. It is enjoyable, productive, and has a much greater purpose than just getting you ready for a work out.

I've been saying for years that most people are losing out on so much joy and productivity by not taking their warm ups seriously. I do mobility work, prehab, rehab, skill work and some motor control work all in my warm up. It's my favorite part of my workout honestly. I can literally use a bo staff like a ninja turtle because it was part of my warm up for two years. Lol

I discovered your channel today and im just sad you domt have more videos. I know it takes much effort and time to put this kind of videos and im thanking you so much for doing this. You deserve way more views and likes and its just sad that many people are missing out. Ive tried horse stance and im planning on doing it pretty much everyday. I like primal movements but i wont have strict time to do that, i will just do it when i feel like it (ofc everyday). Im already doing calisthenics and started incorporating¿ p bars exercises i saw in one of your videos. I hope all of that will step my game up. Thanks bro.

No problem, I'm psyched your enjoying the videos. Sorry I haven't been posting much, I'm afraid I have to many irons in the fire for my own good. However I'm getting back on track and have a video coming out today or tomorrow and then hopefully one a week after that for a while. Your training program sounds like it will be solid, I would recommend spending some time in a deep resting squat too. Its really beneficial for a number of reasons but it is also something of a bridge between the strength and mobility gained by horse stance and the functional requirements of most primal movements. I loved the video and how it was presented. I have been teaching primal exercises for a good portion of my life. Ranging from aquatics training to land based training, I have seen a wide spectrum of humans and how they move. The content on the creation of primal movements cannot be attributed to any one person. These types of omni-directional practices have been around for centuries if not since the beginning of the human race. People have been claiming to be the creators of this progression, but I see they are only brands of a deeper modality. Of course, some credit can go to the one who patents it these days, although I wonder if these people give credit to the millions before them that have journeyed as far or farther than this young man, Mike Fitch. I am currently humbled that there are so many practices out there in this world, but I hope that it does not become a fad like Yoga has in America. On the other hand, I cannot help but love that people are moving this way because it is not only enjoyable but thoroughly effective for developing the human body from all backgrounds and anatomical structures. Thank you for the video, it was entertaining.

One quick note; Mike Fitch didn't invent primal movements. He's just the pretty boy with tattoos that got famous for it. Look up Budokon Yoga by Cameron Shane. He was doing this for years while Mr. Fitch was still in grade school.

Hey there new to channel and just subscribed. I'm a big guy but I can do pull ups and pushups and run. What is a program you recommend for a heavy guy trying to get into the movement culture?

Stephen Deer, it's hard to say whats best for you without knowing more. But the begining of most movement training programs involves a lot of calisthenic strength training. Its important that you can effectively manipulate your own bodyweight without much trouble. Along side this a good mobility routine will free up your joints and movement. Animal flow and movnat are great programs that put mobility and bodyweight strength together into one program and neither would be difficult for a larger person. Capoeira is also a really great way to train for movement and slim down at the same time, and the levels you can progress through are nearly endless. www.google.com/amp/s/breakingmuscle.com/amp/workouts/strength-conditioning-a-4-week-movnat-primer-with-erwan-le-corre-week-1 , this link is to a 4 week hip mobility primer for movnat. I would recommend something like this in the absolute beginning in order to restore any lost basic function of the hips. Hip issues can quickly derail movement training. Hope this helps out

Thank you! Which of the natural movement programs would be best for me? I am 50 year old sedentary female, 30lbs overweight (due to menopause) but healthy otherwise. I guess I need to start with something very basic (easy). Something that will let me progress gradually. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Well any of these natural movement programs would work, but if you have been sedentary for quite some time I would recommend starting off with something simple and accessible. Something to break the body back in to full range movement without overly stressing it in the beginning. Movnat does have a free 4 week primer course designed to rehab movement and prepare the mover for a movnat workshop. This program plus a little light yoga would be a good way to begin. Stephen Deer , paleo seems a good place for most people to start but in my experience it worked as a rough guideline. As i experienced tge diet i changed things around if my body felt off. For one i cook more of my food than i eat raw because my digestion seems to only handle so much raw food. There were also foods i omitted all together for the same reason. Funny enough i did run across a diet that shockingly described all the alternations i had made to my personal diet and that was the blood type diet. I was very impressed with its ability to predict how i was reacting to specific diets. Well this is my experience for what its worth. Good luck

Thank you for answering a previous question. This one is a tough one though: How can I put together an easy movement training practice while wearing a sling for 6 weeks. I am having labrum repairs to my left shoulder in June ( my right was done in March and I am in PT). My entire body is hurting from very little movement variety and I have run out of ideas. Thanks!!

Well much of the variety of movement isn't available to you right now, but if your serious about movement training there are still things you can train while you heal. First off is the lower body, not sure your background but this seems like a good time to train for kicks, and if you can;t get into a full resting squat I would start working on that mobility right away. For the upper body I would suggest a different approach. Try working on the subtle art of movement that is so rarely seen in most movers. Use slow, fluid movements with the intention of increasing awareness and mind body connection. Things like tai chi, qi gong, thomas hanna somatic exercises, or feldenkrais exercises. Serious athletes sever seem to want to do these kind of exercises but the deep connection with the body they foster is in reality what separates the good from the great. I myself went through a serious of injuries before taking up this kind of training. Now I almost never get injured because this kind of practice has connected me to my body on a whole new level. Is there a good book or something like that? I want to learn it and do it but i cant find a exact guide for the basics and further step for intermediate exercises to build up on🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm not aware of any books currently, but there certainly should be. I may just make a course about progressing through these movements, to remedy this lack of proper instruction. In the mean time, if I find a book I will reply again and let you know. Thanks for your question!

Lsa Sea, natural movement is a tool you can use and emphasis in any career that uses or prescribed movement. Examples would be physical therapist, body worker, somatic practitioner, athletic coach, personal trainer, parkour or gymnastics instructor, martial arts instructor and so on. In terms of certifications there is movnat, animal flow, and a number of parkour certifications. And more will no doubt be forthcoming as the field grows. A good starting point would be to check and see if a movnat gym has opened in your area and talk to the instructors there. Hope this helps.
