The detente on the hot water ceramic stem valve failed from water seeping around the shaft...a common occurrence. Replacing it is a simple job...providing the valve housing and associated parts are not too badly corroded. Here's how we got away clean one more time. If it lasts another 20 years...someone else can replace the whole thing.
