Another Free PC From The Local Dump...

While throwing out some beaten up PC cases I came across this Fujitsu machine sitting inside the scrap metal bin at a local recycling centre. It looks as though someone started to give it an interesting sparkly custom paint job, but then got bored and chucked it out. So does it work, and what's inside?
Thanks for watching :)

My local centres all sell everything on ebay for extortionate prices you can't take anything, I doubt much (computer wise) actually gets recycled there. They don't care if it takes 5 years to sell something, they know someone will eventually need a certain part and buy it. It sucks.
@arthurmann578
@arthurmann578 3 года назад
@@neomaster341 The local Good Will stores in my area charge INSANELY HIGH prices for old PC stuff, even the broken one's! You are better off buying new stuff than buying anything PC related that they sell to the public. I believe in charity work, but $80 for an old Dell 19" monitor with a CRACKED SCREEN that should just be disposed of or WAY cheaper than what they charge! That's just one example of some of the crap that they try to sell you at stupidly high prices!

@Arthur Mann. I was lucky... 2 years I got a great deal on a PC at a local thrift store. Aftermarket case and motherboard, an i7 2600, 16gb ram, and an old hd6750 for... $30. I doubt I'd see a deal like that again.
@arthurmann578
@arthurmann578 3 года назад
@@robertt9342 The 6750 is the same card that I use in my older machine from 2009, I believe. I play the original Skyrim with it from time to time at nearly all high settings with no problem at all! It is a pretty decent card for playing older games. I paid only $10 for it actually quite a few years back on a clearance sale in Best Buy, I believe. You definitely got a great deal on a complete system back then! I just bought an old Dell Precision T1600 from a guy in Texas and I am waiting for it to be delivered across the states to me. It was a good deal at $90. Its got a Xenon e1245 CPU, 16 GB RAM, 450 watt PSU, 256 GB SSD, and an older 1 TB HDD. He removed the GPU card to sell it separately as was to be expected because of today's market prices, but at least it still has its own built in graphics. Eventually I hope to upgrade the card whenever the crazy prices drop and maybe the PSU. Unlike most of Dell/Hell's other machines it seems to be less proprietary. I was originally looking into an Optiplex, but the only case I could find them in were just too damn small and The PSU too damn proprietary. I would have had to find a low form GPU with a low power consumption or get a larger case to fit in BOTH a standard GPU and PSU. I might still go for one with an i7 in the future. Be well out there and happy gaming! 👍👍

Find an office building with a couple law firms inside. What I found out is that law offices have a ton of laptops, desktops, and servers that they upgrade every couple years. Usually, in the basement of these buildings there is an electronics recycling bin. Ask the building manager if you can rummage and take stuff; this way you avoid any trouble. The two buildings I frequent are totally cool with me coming in. In the last 3 years, I found servers, desktops and laptops. When I first started, it was mostly 3000 and 4000 series Intel CPUs, but recently I've been finding more 6000 series processors with DDR4 RAM.

I might’ve mentioned in a comment on a previous video, but the most insane (and only, really) PC I’ve found in a literal dumpster was an i7-2600k, 16gb 1600mhz ram, & GTX 570 2.5gb that was surely a behemoth in 2012. Long story short it ALL worked, I installed it into a much needed newer case and used it for awhile cause it was still able to game like a freaking champ, but did end up exchanging the GTX 570 for a RX 580. Yes, I know it’s ironic number-wise, but obviously much more powerful. Sadly the mobo finally died, and I retired the i7-2600k/DDR3 parts and moved onto a B450 Tomahawk, 16gb 3200mhz ram and Ryzen 5 2600 (more irony!). I got a really good deal on them used so this has been a ridiculously cheap build. Now fully team red, the R5 and the 580 are an amazing combo and I’m so glad I was able to get a semi-modern yet also capable PC before the world went to shit.

I gave away a similar machine recently, they're really robust and have tons of potential. The socket 775 models can accommodate a cheap quad-core 771 Xeon with an adapter, throw in an SSD and a cheap video card for HD video decoding and you've got an office PC no less capable than a brand new one. I hate the throwaway culture we live in sometimes.

" The exhaust fan hole was nearly non existent more so, I popped off the CPU fan when I got home and the there was about 2-3mm of dust on top of the stock heat sink. Pretty amazed that it ran it all. I already gutted it and will give it a new life in another case. Great vids....love dumpster finds.

With SSD's you can do what's referred to as a secure erase before you get rid of a computer. For mechanical hard drives I do a single pass of zero bytes over the whole hard drive using a utility like "dd" in Linux. With modern drive densities, a single pass of zeroes over the whole drive will sufficiently make it unrecoverable and will salvage the drive rather than senselessly destroying it.

Dang just tossed out. I bought one with a i5 2400 for $50, so someone could've easily sold it for like $75 or more. They make good home media servers or HTPCs due to their decent performance, low profile, and low power draw.

My father found old Rogers studio speakers on the side of the road, they are worth around 3000$ CAD online. those were made in UK in the 70s i think. Some people really have no clue what they are throwing away.

No surprise that the excitement is palpable :). I‘m getting some free stuff tomorrow. Folks seem quite often like rabbits in headlights when the question comes up: "So, what do we do with the old PC, then?“. You‘d think that after over a generation of personal computing ppl would’ve gotten used to dealing with their redundant boxen but oh no… So…Free PCs forever!! :)

I'm currently doing my computer science bachelor degree on a 5 years old system with pentium g4350, 8gb of ram, gtx750 and a SSD. What can I say... if it works, it works. Only in heavy duty IDEs (Intellij or Pycharm) I'm experiencing some hang ups sometimes when they start. In VSCode I don't have any problems. An SSD and more ram makes the difference, especially the SSD. Some people don't need much, so don't throw perfectly working PCs.

Nobody will ever see this nor will anyone ever care, but I have quite the connection with the 3220 as it has served me well for more than 5 years, I basically grew up with this CPU. It was only in November last year when I decided to upgrade to a R5 2600X (while not the most powerful CPU, it's still quite the upgrade for me, especially as it tripled both my core and thread counts), and while it used to run quite smoothly back when I first got the chip, I was being hard CPU bottlenecked for the last 3 years or so, even with an entry-level graphics card like the 1050Ti I own. Genshin Impact ran with 20-40 fps (visual settings changes had minimal impact on the framerate, but let's assume it was on max for simplicity's sake), and after upgrading the CPU, I could run the game on absolutely max out settings and still get an average framerate of around 75 (convenient because that's exactly my monitors refresh rate). Destiny 2 also used to run with 20-40 fps (dropping all the way down to 10, and going up to around 70 when looking off the map at the background terrain), while now I'm getting 60-120 fps (still very low settings with very high texture detail), sometimes even more in closed spaces, but still averaging at about 65-70 during action, hitting a constant 75 in some less demanding areas. The most surprising results came from League of Legends, since when I first played it with the i3 3220, it could get me all the way up to 150-200 fps at the beginning of the game, and consistently hold 75+ even in the most demanding scenarios. After years of use, however, I couldn't ever get above 120 and I sometimes dropped all the way down to 40, which was frustrating to say the least. The 2600X of course manages to get me up to 500 fps absolute best case scenario with minimum settings and still hit 100+ in the worst one, as League is a notoriously easy game to run. Tldr: I3 3220 was a solid entry-level chip back in the day with a nice price/performance ratio, however either games have become more demanding with a bunch of major updates or the CPU itself has started to die on me after around 6 years, because it was pretty much unusable when I finally decided to get rid of it.
