£10 ($13) won't buy you much in terms of PC components or tech in general, so I wasn't expecting much from this cheap mystery purchase. That said I was actually pleasantly surprised. Thanks for watching :)
The Q6600 is legendary, because you can overclock it from 2.4 to 3.0 GHz by covering one of the pads with electrical tape, even on locked motherboards.
I'm pretty sure mine OCd to more like 3.9Ghz... it ran 2012 games great! I found that whole gaming box on the street and ran it as my main rig for two years, lol. Fast DDR2 ram can be expensive, though.
@@matthewbennett he said OC via the tape mod. It's would OC higher with an actual 3rd party motherboard that can OC. Tape mod is for people on OEM computers like Dell. Tape Mod allows a small OC from 2.4 to 3.0, which isn't possible otherwise
@Green Mamba Games I remember using the Xeon E5450 with an LGA 775 motherboard by just using a little strip that swapped the contacts for two of the pins. replaced my Q6600.
For the price, it's a good item. Also the delivery seemed quite good. Overall I'd be happy with the item. ( Happy Christmas and keep up the good work dude )
My cousin its still rocking a q6600 overclocked with tape and slighty undervolted and 8gb of ddr2 800mhz, and hd 7770, its working like a charm :D. That thing plays gta v and forza horizon 4 daily :)
If you can get past the dated graphics Call of Juarez is a pretty good game and well worth playing for the back and forth between characters Billy & his gunfighter uncle. Plot gets a bit shaky with "mystical" nonsense towards the end but is still fun and at the time of release graphics were cutting-edge.
Aye, I remember loving it. You could kill your horse if you started shooting and whipped the camera towards the horse quickly. Lmao (Normally it would point the gun down when you pointed at the horse) Me and my brother got a lot of laughs and fun out of this game.
Ooh, a Core 2 Quad! I suppose it's one of the better offerings for the 775 platform - though I doubt many people will be using Core 2 based CPUs now that Core i CPUs are all over the place, as well as Ryzen CPUs. Still, a nice upgrade for anything that is on Socket 775. I know there's a few computers floating about that are Core 2 Duo based where I work (these computers are not actually being used though), so I reckon Core 2 Quad CPUs like this one would be a nice upgrade on those.
How well they respond to a generics psu, using even a cheap one would beat the porpouse of a cheap PC, plan to use 4gb ddr2 the only one the Mobo can take and a $20 pound GPU and hd 8570
@@HunterKiotori Depends on how they operate. If they're a company that sells "mystery boxes" where most are worthless, but there's a 1 in 100 chance of getting something like an iPhone, they could run afoul of the country's gambling laws. But if they're selling mystery boxes where they're all worth reasonably close to the asking price, it's okay. It's a big grey area in many countries, akin to in-game loot boxes. I don't believe the UK really hasn't gotten to grips with it properly yet.
Bro I remember watching your early videos back a few years ago and I'm so happy to see you be successful and still going . Much love keep it up brother if it wasn't for your vides I wouldn't be into PC gaming
From my experiance, it turns out that the old Core 2 Quad cpus actually perform pretty well in 2021. I have a slightly newer Core 2 Quad Q9550 with a GTX 570 and 4 gb ddr2 ram and it actually runs Windows 11 fine and for gaming, it can handle games made up until 2015 to 2016 like GTA5, Far Cry Primal, and many others. I remember the Core 2 Quads as being top of the line CPUs in 2007 when Windows Vista was the latest and greatest operating system.
That's actually pretty sweet, a CPU and a game from about the same period. Not really worth the 10 pounds but still. Can't deny I expected something much more useless.
It's literally worth that, if not a little more. - Call of Juarez is like 10 or about 4 on sale, plus the CPU. - Yea, perhaps it's not the most useful thing, but not worthLESS.
Yup, the Q6600 went from 2.4Ghz to 3Ghz and was pretty stable with my old rig. Had it running for years. It really gave the slightly tired prebuilts more life for a bit.
The Core2 CPUs and LGA 775 motherboards are a cheap way to get into PC building. In the UK the likes of CEX will sell the CPUs / DDR3 RAM and used motherboards can be had on EBay. I have several Q9550 CPUs that I have built.
I remember being on 775 with pentium D 2.8ghz. I was drooling over a q9650 or maybe 9770.. they were hundreds back then.. This was right after the release of the first i7s. Paired that pentium with gt 210 hah.. 4x1gb ddr2 667mhz ram. cs source was my game back then.. I'm sure you can understand why lol
I was thinking about Call of Juarez today. Awesome game at the time. Mark Alaimo, who plays one of the best villains from Star Trek Deep Space 9 (Dukat) voices the preacher character, and the dude is just great. I mean, in game you can read the bible to your enemies while you try to enact lead filled justice on them.
I remember when i was having to make the choice whether to get the E8400 OR Q6600,Both were pretty much around the same price (at the time i looked)..really glad i choose the Q6600 it was a significant step up from the E6300 i had and i got many years of solid performance, Now i own several Core 2 Series CPUs for collecting. :)
Interesting. I was in the same situation but chose the E8400 for the clock speed which made most of the games run faster. But once gta4 was released I realised I should have gone for the quad core.
What a nice lucky bag pull! Both items worked! :D I have two 775 motherboards and an E8600 dual core somehwere, so a Q6600 could make it a nice kitchen computer. :) Congrats!
That's actually pretty awesome! A Q6600 for a low price, nice! And still "better" or more interesting than a first gen i-3 or similar. And with a game as well!
I like the Q6600 as it overclocks pretty easily. I run one at 3GHz but I’ve seen others push it to 3.4GHz and still have Windows stable. I picked one up for $5 recently in a bundle and used it with the Asus P5KPL-AM to dual boot WinME & XP. It still has some life with older games for sure.
Yeah, the Q6600 overclocked like a boss back in the day even without having to tweak voltages. It is worth the £10 for the nostalgia :D EDIT* Have a good Christmas @randomgaminginHD - I hated moving house; sure as shit wouldnt want to do it at this time of year.
@@4kmarvelclips454 yes BSEL mod works but with my motherboard I just had to change to 333 and it went to 3.01GHz…one setting and didn’t have to mess with tape 👍
I so didn't believe you I had to immediately click and watch! Edit: Actually, I wish I had one of these CPUs for my collection. No one seems to be scrapping them around me.
@@jmullin009 While you are a great guy to offer, I suppose I have enough CPUs in my collection, including the others you mention here. I'll pass and hope to see a Core2Quad in my scrapping finds one day!
So, could a CPU like that handle Stadia or GeForce Now properly? Back in the day I only managed to have the Duo 6600 and then the E8400, so the quad core is still a mystery object to this day.
Still rocking a Q9550 with a Gtx 560 in my Media Pc and yes it plays a decent variety of games.Obviously not Triple A titles maxed but considering the whole lot stands me about $20 I'm pleased.
When you should the package i just had a feeling it's gonna be a q6600 as they are the most popular core2 cpu.Yes it lacks instructions for new games but if you build a retro gaming pc,it's plenty.
The q6600 cpu can be modded to 3ghz (it is called q6600 bsel mod) where you cover some of the contacts on the cpu and trick the motherboard into thinking it is a 1333 fsb cpu instead of 1066 fsb, but make sure that your motherboard can work with 1333 fsb cpu's otherwise the mod won't work.
I have a Q6600 just sat on my desk, next to an i5 2500k and a dead i5 4590s. I have dozens of old Core 2 CPUs just sat in a box doing nothing, maybe I should do some Tech for £10 sales on eBay too!
Wow! C2Q isn’t bad for a retro box gaming pc setup 🥰👍 the free Steam Key is to match the CPU which is a Mimi project itself. It will give you a good lil on the side hobby. Call of Juarez is a vg game 🥰🤩👍😉
I actually still run and use a core2quad, that I have working with a 1050ti in a motherboard that supports 8GBs of DDR3 RAM and I find it runs Windows10 and older Games up to and Including Wither 1 rather well. But my main reason I keep it about is that it has a PCI slot that I find useful for retro gaming as I have an old soundcard with a wavetable YamahaYG card connected. Which still sounds really good for playing old dosbox and win9x games that use midi for music. I also find that thanks to having been upgraded with an SSD and 8GBs of ram it still works fine for web browing and watching youtube. But I would not recommend anyone get one for playing new games. As anything with a AMD iGPU will work better and costs not much more second hand.
Its crazy how good that cpu used to be the only cpu better than that was the 2500k which on retrospective I probs should have held on till this generation.
I'm sure the Core 2 Quad could easily handle Call of Juarez. I remember playing that game using a single core AMD Athlon 64 with 2GB RAM and a Nvidia 7800GS (AGP) graphics card. I did he Core 2 Duo for the mystery CPU's generation and didn't go quad core until Core i5 second generation.
Call of Juarez was given away free on Steam around this time. I got it, downloaded it and had a quick look… reminds me of Rage, in terms of looks. Still, meant to be a good game that I may play in future.
That's alright for a tenner.... god back in the day that was a top notch CPU.... it was in the top end Dell XPS prebuilt systems that went for £2k upwards. I know because I refurbished one but only got £100 quid for it, the thing wieghed a ton....
You reckon that they got the 'Call of Juarez' key for free considering Techland has been celebrating their 30th and been giving their older games away here and there? Though, all I know about is this sci-fi game (forgot the name) on GOG and I believe now or soon it will be "Gunslinger" for Steam, so perhaps they didn't get it that way. That said, pretty cool. Their three "CoJ" games are worth a play.
G'day Random, I got a Mystery Dell from about 2007/8 for $20AUD a couple of weeks ago, it is a complete PC with original Monitor & Periferals, I was told it is working but still have to plug it in & fire it up to see what specs it has 🤔 plus I got given a Compaq XP P4 Laptop for free after I replied No when asked if I could put W10/11 on it for gaming 😂
Call of Juarez is a nice little game. Used to play it alot with my friend and it sure has nice amount of content to blast thru :P Not a bad deal I'd say! Not sure tho how well the graphics hold up today but should be nice for lower end hardware atleast!
Still using q6600 (which is not overclocked) with 2 gigs. Classic gta sa heavily modded still gives me 50-60 fps. CS:GO is also playable at 40 fps. Paired with gt 730 4gb ddr3. Hopefully I should get a new PC next year.
Well well well, what do you know. You gets an old friend back, in the stable ... Maybe just make an XPBox, for your own use / nostalgia, with that chip
I don't have much to say except: I hope your move goes well, my last one was absolutely horrible, and that you can celebrate christmas (I know I sure won't)
Oooo, a tuningable(via ducttape :D) c2q processor, a bit old, but does this enough with a considerably good gpu for stalker anomaly for 1080p 144 hz?... One fact is sure...an r9 270 wont be enough unless you choose dx8 or sg like that and minimal settings, and in busier arena, it even produces around 90 fps:$...
