The pleasure of saving an original switch manufactured in 1966. If nothing else, the quality will be worlds above what you'll find in the aftermarket.

This job is quite satisfying. I had gearbox oil passing the O rings so I changed them out. Worked a charm.

In hindsight, I probably should have done that. Thanks for watching!

Nice one Chris. I love how simple the electrical bits and pieces on the 60s/70s Triumphs are, just rebuilt a set of horns myself and it was more or less the same issue, the main thing that can go wrong is 50 or so years of muck!

Thanks! I did take the other one apart and the little rivet that holds the metal contact plate to the melamine backing (the plunger connected side) corroded through. Not sure if I'll be able to fix that. And I'm afraid it might allow the OD to engage without command, so that makes me nervous. Probably use the new switch for that one.

Great job! I also like re-using as much as possible. I'm going to do similar for the solenoid.

Thanks, David. Glad to hear from you. My solenoid was too far gone - rust had gotten under the rubber boot and corroded out the leads. Would have loved to have saved it, though, as it was original.

I'm a little late to the party but looks good. Thanks for taking it apart. I think i have one or two spares in questionable condition

Wish I had this a year ago as I replaced mine with new ones that don't really impress me ... but it is still working.

Thanks, Barry. Is your replacement similar in construction? I'm tempted to pull it apart and see what's inside to compare. I think it was only around $10, so I don't expect much.

@@roundtailrestoration yes mine was around ten dollars as well. The only difference was the male contacts on the top stuck straight up rather than being horizontal. One of mine was good so I only replaced the one which was for reverse lights on the TR 6.

I'll see what I get when the backorder comes in. Have a feeling I'll be disappointed.

Yes, the aftermarket is just not up to the same quality as OEM. I've had to rebuild some aftermarket parts just to use them. If you can avoid breaking the plastic or Bakelite you're home free. Nice work.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the other switch's little rivet of the two that hold the internal metal plate to the melamine base is corroded through. Not sure I'll be able to fix that one properly.

Agree save old parts as the new ones tend to be of mixed quality.

Mixed quality is one way to put it. I'm interested when I get the new switch to see if it's by Lucas still. Though, I've found that their quality has also declined.

Yes Lucas I think now is an Indian company, quality and name no longer go hand in hand😢
